May be she should represent a country that doesn't have any contestant in the competition. There are so many good Korean pianists this year, and Japaneses too. How on earth did these jurors make their decisions? Pray that some good patrons, and agents from major agencies saw and heard her playing and decide to help So Yeon.

파이널 진출을 간절히 바랐던 사람 중 한 명으로서 너무나도 아쉽지만, 수연님의 우아하고도 섬세한 연주를 알게 돼서 정말 행복했습니다. 앞으로의 활동이 수연님의 음악처럼 아름다고 찬란한 순간들로 가득 채워지길 바라요! 저도 공연장 자주 찾아서 함께하겠습니다~ 마음고생 많으셨을 텐데 이젠 조금 더 자유롭게 하고 싶은 연주 맘껏 하시길 응원합니다:)

She should be finalist. She was a true revelation of third round. Plus she plays like she loves Chopin, not fights him.

So many pianists like Ushida, Suyeon, Sumino played like they love Chopin deeply and respect him. Of course the jury just had to choose the pianists who treat Chopin as lighthearted music or showpiece.

이번 콩쿠르 중 인터뷰에서, 수연님이 피아니스트로서 제일 중요하게 생각하시는 것이 "playing Chopin and being loved"라고 말씀하시는 걸 봤어요. 수연님이 파이널에 진출하지 못한 것은 많은 사람들이 납득할 수 없는 결과였지만, 3라운드까지 연주하시면서 정말 많은 사람들의 사랑을 받은 거 아시죠? 수연님의 음악에 대한 사랑과 그것을 전달하는 누구보다도 탁월한 능력이 쇼팽 콩쿠르 파이널 간 것보다 훨씬 더 수연님의 커리어를 빛나게 하길 진심으로 응원합니다! 감동적인 연주 정말 감사했어요!!!!

Su Yeon Kim was outstanding throughout the competition, and to me the greatest of all participants. I have been listening to scores of great pianists all through my life, and I never heard anyone playing Chopin more beautifully. Her rendition of the third sonata was to me a revelation and a wonderful musical experience. Her recent performances of Beethoven, Scriabin, Ravel, Prokofiev, ... on KZread are equally memorable and make her one of the greatest pianists of her generation or of any generation. The decision of the jurors to eliminate her at this stage is incomprehensible.

Keep in mind that in reality it's not a binary pass/fail -- there are levels of passing and of not-passing. Su Yeon came really close to making the final round -- she actually received exactly 50% "pass" votes from the Jury. If she had received just one more pass vote she likely would have advanced (the judging system has a bit of additional complexity so impossible to know for sure). The field was super-talented in this iteration of the competition, and she was right up there with them -- on another day she may have advanced handily.

I guess we just have to accept that, at this level of performance, there are to objective criteria, and the outcome ultimately boils down to the personal tastes and preferences of the jurors. In other words, it is just a gamble. I for one will continue to adore the playing of Su Yeon Kim.

Been keeping an eye on her since the preliminary stage and still can't believe that she didn't get in - So much subtlety and sincerity in her emotions that I keep coming back (especially for her nocturne op 48-2 and ballade no.4). She'll always be the true winner to me.

This is how Chopin should be played. From the first piece of music at the first stage it was a story and this wonderful story has no ending...unfortunately for the Chopin Competition...

I was so disappointed that you didn't qualify for the final. I have been eagerly waiting for the detailed jury scores, which eventually have just been released in the Wikipedia page today, with more than 2 weeks of delay. This may be a meager consolation, but it is still comforting to know that you were the *closest* to advance to the final among the non-finalists.

Having listened to some of the finalists live this year and listened B-minor sonatas from last 2 competitions as well as many renditions of other Legendary Chopina finalists/winners like Argerich, Pollini or Ashkenazi.. after all, I say, I couldn't agree more. The most emotionally intense Largo mov.

Should have been one of the finalists. Brava!

궂이 파이널이 아니라도 괜찮습니다. 심사위원의 마음을 흔들지 못했더라도 전세계 클래식 애호가들에게 이미 각인되었을 것입니다. 몇몇 곡들은 파이널에 진출한 연주자들보다 뛰어납니다. 예전 백건우 선생님이 특별상을 받았을 때 실력을 알아보고 금전적 후원까지 했던 일화가 생각납니다. 국내에 이런 보석같은 세계적인 연주자가 있는 걸 몰랐다니..얼마나 칼을 갈고 나왔는지 그리고 연주에대한 마음까지 보였습니다. 연주회가 있으면 무조건 예약하고 보겠습니다. 여자 조성진님 너무 아쉬워 마세요. 고생하셨습니다.

I have seen this pianist before at the Cliburn International Competition many years ago, and my impression remains the same: she has some occasional instances of excellence, even brilliance, but not enough sustained greatness to be a Top-3 finisher in a sea of piano prodigies.

당연히 파이널 갈거리고 생각했는데 정말 너무 아쉽습니다..연주 너무 훌륭했는데..리사이틀 기대하겠습니다

Wow perhaps the most egregious omission from the finals. For some of my other favorites (Miyu Shindo - lack of power, Yasuko Furumi - ran out of steam in R3), I made guesses to justify why they weren't admitted to finals. My guess is Kim's mazurkas did her in - a little bland. But they were still above par compared to the lows of some of the other finalists. What a shame!

다시 들어봐도 너무 잘쳤는데…왜 파이널 진출을 못한건지ㅠㅠ 이혁 피아니스트도 너무 잘쳤는데 왜 입상조차 안된건지…. 이번 콩쿨은 뒷말이 많이 나올것만 같다. 진짜 한국인 견제하는 어떤 세력이 있었던건가

1~3라운드까지 봤을때 전체 참가자 중, 연주로 적어도 탑6 안에는 든다고 생각했는데...너무 아쉽네요...이번에 파이널 갔어야했는데...

The judges made a huge mistake by not advancing this wonderful pianist Su Yeon Kim to the finals. Her performance in this video was definitely top 3 among all the 24 participants at stage 3. What a shame. How unjust. Hope she returns in 2025 and win the whole competition.
