Wonderfully put PROFF! You talk about style as an artistic endeavor, and it really is, you put it wonderfully. If one wants to be an artist you have to know the fundamentals before you can branch out and create your own artistic style, it is a direct parallel to clothing in that regard!

Style is the uniform of the soul. Can't remember where I heard that but it makes sense and continues to just work, it lets you look at a photo of yourself 20 years later and not suffer intense embarrassment. One other thing I'm so glad he's doing here is wearing proper socks - I detest these ones that show ankles (who came up with THAT for men??). Proper full length that at least go to the knee for a suit or trouser, only way to go. Most useful when you're subjected to a hideous waiting room sofa that sinks you so deep you get the bends when you try to stand up again.

Style and fashion, often intertwined yet vastly different concepts, present a stark contrast in their essence and implications. Style, a timeless and personal expression of one's individuality, transcends the fleeting trends dictated by fashion. It is a cultivated attribute, nurtured through the subtle guidance of parents or the arduous process of self-discovery. For the fortunate few, style is an inherent trait, guiding their sartorial choices from a tender age. They effortlessly exude an air of confidence and poise, their every ensemble a reflection of their unique aesthetic. For others, the path to style can be a bumpy one. The pursuit of fashion, with its ever-changing whims and dubious aesthetic value, can lead to a bewildering array of clothing mishaps. Trust me, I have been there. It is not until the advent of maturity, often in one's mid-forties, that the distinction between style and fashion becomes clear. True style emerges, guided by a discerning eye and an understanding of the principles of composition and proportion. However, this enlightenment may also come tinged with regret, as one contemplates the years spent adhering to the dictates of fashion, resulting in less-than-flattering attire- looking like a peacock that got hit by lightning, twice! In contrast, fashion is a fleeting, impersonal phenomenon, driven by the relentless cycle of trends and the relentless pursuit of novelty. It is often characterized by the use of inexpensive materials, exploitation of cheap labor, and disregard for environmental concerns. Brands like Sein, H&M, Zara, etc. Furthermore, the indiscriminate adoption of fashion trends can lead to a uniform and uninspired appearance. Everyone looks equally ugly and miserable. Style, on the other hand, demands time, effort, and a willingness to experiment. It involves the careful selection of garments that complement one's body type and personal aesthetic, the appreciation of quality craftsmanship, and the sustainable consumption of clothing. It is an investment that pays dividends in the form of a wardrobe that empowers, inspires, and reflects one's true self. You need to put money into the bank so you can withdraw it later. Otherwise you’ll always be in debt and as mentioned above , miserable.

I agree. I work in a school and all the kids seem to think they have style because they all wear the same shoes (usually nike dunks or adidas sambas). That's current fashion trends, not style.

Fashion comes and goes. What's fashionable today may be outdated tomorrow. I think style is something that is more personalized, style will last because it's an extension of your personality. You get the chance to create.
