People need goals that are so fantastical to imagine. They do NOT need myths. So much of religion is keeping a child from growing up. Once you become a man, you no longer need anyone including the church. You can start your own thing.

When you learn about ideology you learn that there's a difference between: 1. Knowing 2. Knowing that others know, and 3. Knowing that others know that you know (and so on...) If it's admitted amongst Conservatives that stupid people need their myths, that's huge, it's out in the open and it changes the angle that people are going to feel ok with to approach their myths. Knowing that it's accepted to hold a myth knowing that it is a myth is a win win. You're now not going to weaponise it against us pretending that it's not a myth.

Adults have been having this discussion for millenia across the globe. They have it now and will continue until the end of time. They use different words, concepts, basis in science and philosophy, but they talk about the same thing. From Plato passing by Jung and Nietzche, to arrive at these 3. It will never end.

So to summarise Murray and Peterson here - Religion is philosophy for the masses. Most people "dont spend their life studying philosophy." Yet Murray later uses the recent uptake in Christianity by the masses as some sort of collective wisdom. This seems to be enjoying your cake both ways, surely. The masses are generally a bit dense in comparison to the men on stage (practically admitted by peterson). Despite this, we should trust them to work out that religion is a helpful metaphor to improve their behaviour and not actually historically true. Sounds a little wonky again. Lastly, if your belief in God/christian tradition is based solely on utility, then it will not hold up to any hardship or scrutiny. It is facile without faith, as Sam tries to point out. Murray states here that rationality and secularism are in their infancy, and thats right. Let us then try to achieve maturity through trial and discourse. Better that than smuggling jesus in through the back door and handing power back to religious institutions who routinely abused their influence wherever possible.

“We haven’t tried rationalism yet?” I thought we had The Age of Reason already. The problem is that humans tend to be one -dimensional. We are creators of both reason and feeling. So as has been advised we should choose The Middle Way between both. Plato said those in high places would die by fire and those in low places by water. Fire likely symbolizes reason and water feeling. The ancients recommended The Middle Way negotiating a path between reason and feeling as the truth lies between dualities, a synthesis of both, not going with one or the other exclusively, when humans tend to do.

Wow, Peterson actually said something I kind of agree with 😂 But cognitive dissonance is not stupidity. It's denial of logic that you'd apply to most things in your life. If, as a Christian, I were stupid, I'd still be stupid. Now, that's also up for interpretation, depending on who you speak to 😅 but understanding the facts and processing those to the point of understanding rationality in your thinking takes time, but eventually I reprogrammed my mind to not fear that which can not be verified. I don't need to believe in fantasy or myths, that had very little application to real life, in order to find truth.

The definition of religion is ‘that to which we are bound’ It is based on symbols and the resonance from symbols. What is the importance of resonance, the resonance between Jupiter and Saturn played a major role in the formation of the Galaxy. Rationalism is without resonance it is literalism unbound and if the only option, leaves the human as less than human because only a part of who we are is addressed. To raise a child who is super rational only is to raise a monster. So enough with putting an end to myth and symbols and putting total emphasis on rationalism. It is a very bad idea. The language of religion is symbolic not literal and rightly so.

    1) "Rationality" is just a calculator - it's a processing of input to output. We live in a world of way too many inputs, inputs of varying degrees of knowing and uncertainty. No calculator can work out an answer to such a question. So rationality is inadequate, pathetically inadequate. 2) If you run "Rationality through the idea that "Might is Right", we'll end up in a very big mess, one the ancient world lived through from the dawn of time till Christianity arrived

I will always tune in to Douglas speaking. Not sure what's going on here. He is great on biblical knowledge, but he does not profess to be a committed Christian, he calls himself an agnostic. He knows there is a Creator. Darwinians love to believe his ridiculous theory, which takes more faith than believing the bible. To the interviewer: he needs to teach his children that God is real. The reason we have such breakdowns in society and family now, is because no one teaches these poor beleaguered children the Truth.

You don't need ANY faith to believe in the theory of Evolution, you believe it's true because of the overwhelming amount of top quality evidence for it. And as for grooming young children into your cult or mental illness, that is morally reprehensible, and constitutes child abuse. It also makes no sense; merely indoctrinating a child into believing your version of the sky-daddy myth in no way shape or form molds them into a good person. Prisons are filled with 99% christians and muslims. Churches are the #1 source of sexual predation against children, nothing else even comes close.
