Douglas Murray: Saying "Palestine" Feeds Into The LIE!

Douglas Murray is asked by an audience member about whether we should use or legitimise the term "Palestine" as a national identity - given its clear purpose to simply undermine Israel, rather than achieve genuine national self-determination. Ollie reacts to Douglas' words.

It has been especially useful on elite students of elite universities who prefer to protest for something that has no basis in truth. They don't know and don't seem to care about learning the facts . They don't understand that they're being used as useful idiots. They also don't seem to understand that if they were in Gaza they would be tortured and killed for who they are and what they represent ! They don't know that Israel is on the frontlines of fighting a war for the rest t of he world. The extremist Islamiist have vowed to do what they did to Israel -- in their terrorists attacks on October 7( and that they do on an ongoing basis to Israel) , they plan to do to Europe , the U.S., etc. They have a deep hatred for all the "infidells" -- Christian, Jewish, other Muslims, etc. and vow to kill all and establish a caliphate -- an Islamiist regime with no tiolerance for anyone else -- where they have absolute rule! "Palestine" is not an "Arabic" word since there is no "P" in "Arabic" alphabet which does not make the term "Palestine" a natural term in "Arabic". The term itself came from a "Latin" word of which was derived from a "Greek" word then translated into "English" and the best they can do is to romanize it into "Filasṭīn", therefore it is just a "borrowed" word. This means that there never was a "Palestine" as a state nor people of "Palestine" but there were "Arabs". That's the point. Next time be smart and hopefully the "quotation marks" will help you understand better.

The Philippines for example are called "Pilipinas" in Tagalog which is derived from Spanish "Filipinas" (there is no [f] sound in Tagalog). It's a really weird argument to make and going from "those people pronounce the region different in their native language than we do in our native language" to "they borrowed the word from Latin so they should not have the right to exist in that region" is a really far stretch. For example, do you also have a problem with Korean people because they don't have a voiceless labiodental fricative [f] in their phonetic inventory? Or Japanese people because they mostly construct words with consonant-vowel clusters and don't have distinct /l/ and /r/ sounds? I'd recommend learning another language besides English and then look at how different and similar the languages are because you seem to think that borrowings from other languages are rare and strange or somehow delegitimize someone's political claim.

The Kingdom of Judah collapsed in 70 AD, but even after it and in a continuous manner, there was always a Jewish settlement in the Land of Israel, even when it was impossible to make a living there, because world Jewry kept the Jews in the Land of Israel with its money. Arabs were like dunes, they came and went according to the economic and political situation, under the Ottoman rule the Land of Israel was part of the Damascus district without a special definition. Only after the British occupation at the beginning of the 20th century, the concept of Palestine was reinvented and it was intended to serve as a state for the Jews. We are part of one people, the Arab nation. Lo and behold, I have relatives with Palestinian, Lebanese, Jordanian and Syrian citizenship. We are one people. It is only for political reasons that we carefully endorse our Palestinian identity. Indeed, it is of national interest for the Arabs to encourage the existence of the Palestinians in the face of Zionism. Yes, the existence of a separate Palestinian identity is only for tactical reasons. The establishment of a Palestinian state is a new means to continue the struggle against Israel and for Arab unity.

Philistine has existed for thousands of years. Palestine is derived from that name. Herodotus also called it Palestine.

Surely a Palestinian was an inhabitant of the British mandate of Palestine? Golda Meir was a Palestinian, she had a Palestinian passport! Some of these people may be Palestinian descendants but many are Egyptians or Syrians. But also many Jews and Israeli Arabs are descended form Palestinians as well as the majority of the Population of Jordan. Perhaps there should be an international commission to sort these people and allocate them to the main countries of their inheritance? If the remainder of the people people are those that left their land to help the invader then they should be allocated to the Muslim countries who kicked out their Jews.

The mandate of Palestine is within the archival records, yet people that live in make believe will deny reality so they can feel better about what they do to others.
