One of the best things about this channel compared to other good chess channels is that the videos aren’t excessively long most people don’t want to watch a 25+ min breakdown keep up the good work man

1. b2-b4 is also called the Sokolski opening, after Alexey Sokolski, a Russian master who played this opening very often, quite successful at his level. He wrote a book about it, I have a German translation of it, from 1965. The first game in it is totally crazy, against the unknown Strugatsch, the first moves were 1. b4, e5 2. Bb2, f6 3. e4, the gambit variation.

That was a Great tactic from Magnus capturing with the Rook sacrificing the Queen but than able to get a Check with his Bishop and another Discovered Check moving the Rook to take the Queen that was Fantastic Thanks for the Game James Enjoy your day

I found that tactic at the end, thanks for the game. Magnus also won a great positioning game against Hikaru in Bullet Brawl lately, which was also an exciting game to look for as content for your channel😊

Novice here. Why at 5:33 aren’t there other options to preserve the black queen, in retreat, etc?

The black king is in check from the bishop, so it has to either move or have that diagonal blocked by a piece. The queen can't move, so either way, as the queen is attacked by the rook, it is being lost

the end isn't really clear. black has some dangerous threats

Ben is sceptical, the insinuation is that these games (Paul Morphy) were staged but after watching Magnus' opponents I'm inclined to believe that Morphy's opponents were real and real bad at chess... My 7 year old can play better than some of Magnus' opponents...

I like his analysis but his VOICE !!!!! I am sure some just love it but it ANNOYS the hell out of me.
