Carlsen did similar stuff repeatedly in bullet titled arenas on lichess. He'd swap the positions of the queen and king in the opening and then play

9:42 -- after Black's *Nf4* , White has the amazing resource *Bf3 !!* -- a stunning move which paralyzes Black's plans and makes a seemingly imminent victory much trickier to acquire. Don't get me wrong: Black is *STILL* ahead, but *the win is **_FAR_** from trivial* , and, in fact, with sub-par play, and *especially against MAGNUS* , may be IMPOSSIBLE to achieve in this case !! :O .

I don't *think* it's disrespect. I think it's quite the opposite, in fact. I think Magnus knows he stands to lose or draw at least 50% of the time if he plays standard openings, because these guys are *good*. He's playing non-standard openings to pull them out of theory, taking a positional disadvantage and counting on himself being a better (out of theory) chess player. And if we're being honest, he's usually right, and it's working for him. That's just my opinion though. Could be wrong.

You like to keep the winning advantage secret for yourself I can tell. But it's dishonest to do so. And it also makes the game that much less interesting to watch. This why you always demonstrate the match from the winner's side of the aboard. The only exception to this rule- is when you're exposing a cheater perhaps... And you want to demonstrate the easy winning advantage the non- cheater had before the cheater fired up his Chess bot to win the game.

magnus does this crap very often, assuming that he will be able to outplay his opponent in the middle game, and especially, the endgame. he's almost always right. but let's be honest ... his opening is crap. OCCASIONALLY, you run into someone who plays very well, and then magnus loses. when that happens, magnus has no right to call his opponent a cheater. it's just not on.
