Great work Anthony! I think things went a lot smoother when you just allowed her to flow pose a bit more with micro adjustments along the way. Nice adjustment. I think sometimes we can give too much instruction and then the model becomes robotic and thinks too much! Thanks for allowing us into your session with the model. She does very well with her poses and she definitely checks the boxes for what I look for which are the eyes and mouth. She controls her facial expressions very well. I love you attention to detail Tog. Great instruction and positive reinforcement the entire time. Keep it up! Great work!

Thanks Unc, greatly appreciated! And you're absolutely right, I've seen it time and time again. The more "instructions" you give the model, the more they overthink it and things become very clinical. I know it's necessary sometimes, but years ago when I stopped caring about what other photographers would say and instead focused on connecting with the model and making sure they are in tune, I've been infinitely more please with the images. I'll never forget a session I had where I thought the "posed" images were absolute fire, and the model didn't pick any of them. Every image she picked were ones she was flowing through, where it likely felt natural for her. From then on, my focus shifted.

@@AnthonyToglife Exactly! I loved the part where you ran off about 15 frames and you just pumped her up with little compliments and she just blossomed! She is a really good flow poser and with your "micro" adjustments, I know you accomplished the images you wanted in some of those frames! Great work!

PS: Anthony, I purchased the EOS R (5 year old camera) earlier this year, and seeing how it focused on the eye/face so consistently was reassuring; thank you for being real.

You absolutely won’t regret it! I use my R all the time, even for client work. I took 517 images, only about 5 or 6 were soft. The rest were tack sharp.

Great behind the scenes video Anthony. I watched the previous video "When things go wrong"; and all I have to say is I'm pleased your standards are high, as quality is key. I also watched your 5 part video on "models", and my question is would you classify this young lady as a "professional" model, or an extremely beautiful face that models. The reason I ask is that she seems to know what you want her to do with just voice commands.

Thank you so much Micheal, I greatly appreciate that! I do push myself pretty hard to be great, because honestly, photography is a very saturated space, and “good enough” just isn’t good enough these days. I would honestly say she’s in between, she’s not quite a pro model (technically) but she’s much more experienced than a girl with a pretty face.

    What monitor are you using?

Are you referring to the computer monitor? If so, it's the older Samsung C43J89. It's only 1080p so not as "vivid" as newer monitors but it works great so it fits the bill. If you're referring to the monitor while I was shooting, it was just the Accsoon SeeMo with my iPhone.
