Studio Newborn Session Behind The Scenes | Session Posing Workflow

Come be a fly on the wall in my studio for a newborn session with a sweet 2 week old baby girl. During this video you will see some peeks into what a newborn session looks like with me, my typical wrap workflow, how I direct and pose families, and what my final images look like.

Beautiful large window for great natural light shots!! Informative video. Just would like to know your camera settings, ISO, Shutter speed, Aperture, lens used, etc.

Wow I love this. Do you have a pose a newbie should start off with?

Anything getting the family connected. The classic cradle hold, mom and dads back hand behind one another, and then rotate looking at baby, looking at camera, and looking at each other is a great base. From there you can evolve it into changing up who is holding baby and how they are holding baby. You can do close up photos, and full length photos. You can have mom rest her head on dads shoulder, etc. That core pose is a great one to start with!

Love this ! Thank you for sharing... I'm in Woodstock with a very small space for 'studio' in my home. You got some beautiful images with natural light.. where did you get your low white bench from?

Hey! I actually ordered it from Walmart a few years back 🤯 I replaced the feet though to be a little more my style but it was super affordable!

Amazing Video. Amazing studio. Such an inspiration. I have just chosen to go all in with white on white studio. Than you for this amazing video :) Can I please ask, roughly how many images do you have in your final gallery from a shoot like this

Hey! It really depends on a few factors (baby's cooperation, any siblings or grandparents involved, etc.) Newborn sessions I guarantee 50 images but majority of the time I am delivering between 80-120 (including a few black and whites in there).

The photos come out very nice, with light. Are you using flash, natural light or did you edit them?

Thank you! Everything in my studio is done with the natural light from the windows. I shoot my images in RAW and then edit them in Lightroom following the session.

What lens are you using? I’m having a hard time with indoor portraits using my 50mm but I’m wondering if that’s just because I currently own a crop-sensor? Thinking about investing in a 35!

If I’m in homes with tight spaces the 35 is more ideal, but I generally keep my 50 on in the studio. I also know a lot of photographers that use the 24-70. I personally didn’t love the distortion for portraits in that though.
