For anyone who is struggling to train a chow chow first try the basic commands and try to get them to look at u and pay attention and once u get their attention u reward them. And tell them good boy/girl

My chow chow is 6 and he knows come, sit, beg, shake, but he will not lay down he is very stubborn or just doesn’t want to listen.

Pls do a tutorial how you did this

mine follows me for the most part but he would never heel like that , thats amazing ;c

Just got a chow chow and yes I use a whip and my Great Pyrenees for training. At first he would growl a lot, then would get aggressive with my Great Pyrenees but learned a quick lesson not to mess with a dog that fights off wolf packs. After that he calmed down and has only been whipped once. Going on day 3 06/08/2022. He does great with chihuahuas and other dogs also loves walks. Give it a couple more weeks and he can be back with his forever family. P.s he has a training certificate from previous owners, potty trained, and knows many commands. Even with all this he still not a 4yr old not hard but enough to bruise the skin. At his 1yr mark in Feb previous owner noticed a lot more aggression with kids and other family members. It’s their teen yrs that gets them into the alpha state and will begin to choose 1 or 2 members of the family. The chow chow is better related to a cat. They will come to you when the want pets, when they want cuddles, and so on. If you do this outside their desire they can become aggressive. With more training you can get around that. I just choose to whip mine it’s fast and easy way to break them especially if fully trained

I have a two year old chow mix and we trained him from a puppy. My advise is to first learn what best motivates your dog. Our tool was food/ treats. Some dogs prefer play time as a reward others like a specific toy. I watched all the episodes of it’s me or the dog on animal planet and learned how to do positive reinforcement techniques. With a chow... punishment of any sort will not work. It will only make the dog aggressive and not trust you. While you train a puppy you are actually building a bond with your soon to be adult dog. Don’t give them a reason not to trust you. Be consistent. Walk them at the same times every day, feed them at the same times everyday. If you say you’re going to give them a treat... do it. Chows are very intelligent and do not like people who play tricks on them. It’s very important that your dog trusts you. Chows are loyal as heck with a family when they trust all the family members to be honest and fair. They have high prey drive and can be jealous of other pets. Don’t trust them around any small animals until they are older. They don’t mind being left alone while you work as long as they are potty trained and get walked at the same time every single day. As a puppy, we made sure our dog went outside on leash on the hour every hour for the first few months. Then lengthened the time in between walks as he aged. Make it a routine. Hang a bell on the door handle now and show him you ring the bell every time you leave for a potty and when he goes... tell him “good boy” every time. Our dog never went to the bathroom in the house because as he got older he still used the bell to remind us that he needed to go to the bathroom and we always walk him when he rang it. Always. Now he is older and we have zero problems. Even when he has to stay over at a friends house we hang the bell on their door. Potty train first. You can worry about his behavior (heeling and such) on leash using rewards after you have built that level of trust and the dog is around 3-4 months old. Good luck buddy. You got this.

strange cus I have cat and they were bestfriend. sleep together and eat together but with other cats shes not ok, she will go nuts when she sees cats on the street.

Day 4: I wanted to make a route interesting and he slowly (due to me being stubborn too) chased a cat till it climbed a tree. The neighbours were entertained... in a way so was I but I can't let him have his way.

I usually hate stray cats entering my house (they always enter at night and break a thing or two) so I stationed my chow outside. He would only bark at them when I'm around -.- I always catch him just smelling the cat and the cat's not even scared of him anymore... The cat is freely walking while my idiot chow is just there watching him, then he barks at him only when he sees me lol

I'm really a stubborn chow chow at heart. Can you train me ;)?
