A sharp knife is important. It don't take much to keep it that way, keep it out of the dirt and rocks and hit it on a strop from time to time.
Unless damaged i rarely use a stone/diamond sharpening stone. Several swipes on my strop gets it shaving sharp as well as gleaming.
A sharp knife is a good knife.
