Strongman: The Atlas Stone

Спорт

The world of Strongman goes back centuries. As Terry Todd puts it, "This business of lifting weights doesn't just go back fifteen or twenty years. It's an old, old activity." Those age-old activities are still very much alive today.

atlas round stones is a pretty fishy thing . sure, respect worthy lifting atlas stones , yet no 1 will tell you that Roman Empire had official masonery for brushing round stones for balistas, catapult, other huge weapon....Of course from Hadrians Wall up to the Iraq Roman Gate in desert one will find atlas stones . Romans used it to kill people all around 3 different continents, and let it lay on ground after battles. What is more impressing is Scottish and other Gaelic traditions of lifting boulders, huge rocks, of uneven and unbrushed forms . same story with kettlebells - once in use in every Russian market place or fishing harbour, than left to oblivion, than back to life again . one way or the other, Basque and Scottish traditions are cradle for modern Strongman, with or without Romans . Ironically, Romanians using Roman name . Crossfit brought more attention to Bulgaria and Romania IMHO . Strongman turned Nordic/Baltic countries to limelight . Great respect to all of these athletes (and yap, both SM and CF brought more interest to OlympicWeightlifting)
