How to finish/restore Atlas Stones like the pros
Спорт
In this video I polish a new atlas stone and show you how to restore an old atlas stone. I am using spider tacky in this video, any tacky will work. Thanks to Steve Slater for teaching me how to finish a stone like the professionals use at World's Strongest Man.
You will need:
-Tacky if the you are polishing a new stone. No tacky is the old stone is already covered in tacky.
-angle grinder
-flap disk

Same, love my home gym strongman equipment... but an atlas stone will never make it's way into my house. Then again, I never thought I'd have a log but I got one now lol

I just placed an order for the 22" model. I've got natural stones to warm up on so a guy only needs one "real" atlas stone to come to grips with the event.

Not with that attitude you won't
I'll probably never have to do this, but it does solve the curiosity I had about what made them shiny. 👍
Please only grind concrete with appropriately rated masks/dust extraction! Silicosis is bad news.

You'd be surprised what you see around industrial concrete saws. Everyone knows they're supposed to wear their PPE, but some guys just don't.

Right on.
I had no idea that it was tacky that gave atlas stones a polished look, I honestly was expecting like a concrete/cement sealer or something. I learned something new! 💪
Nice job! I’ve done a lot of masonry grinding. Not to be a nag, but it’s good for people to wear hearing protection as well as a dust mask (which I saw you used). Perhaps you did? Hearing damage is progressive and irreversible.

Not a nag at all. Good recommendation

Nothing involving clear consequences without protection should be a “nag.” That’s like discouraging kids from wearing helmets or padding while riding bikes or skateboards.
Been looking for a way to clean my stones for so many years, awesome advice
will definitely be trying this
I love watched your create an atlas stone video. These videos are like gold!

Thats the first of his videos I've ever watched, back when I was a skinny boi
Do I anticipate or have any intention on making an Atlas Stone? No. Am I still watching this video to the end? Hell yea
I want Alan Thrall, Devon Larratt and Eric Bugenhagen in the same room. There’s just that good vibe coming from them

Strongman lapidary. It rocks!
Damn. Now I feel like I need an Atlas Stone. I wouldn’t even know where to put it
Hey Alan, Love your content. Great video, but are you at all concerned with your exposed beard while using the grinder? When I saw that I could not help but get nervous. Maybe tuck it into your shirt or wrap a scarf around your neck.
love you alan thrall
Great video! Does the tacky make a mess of the grinder attachment? I'm borrowing one for my new stone, so I don't want to ruin it. If so, I'll have to find a buffer!
What grit flap disk were you using?
Great video! But what is tacky?
Only thing keeping me from trying to make one of these, is knowing you need at least 5 to start off. Good vid to the point.
So if you're lifting the shiny stone without applying (more) tacky, is it MORE slippery than if you stopped after sanding?
Interesting, keep up the good work!
What's that ring called you have the stone sitting in?
i wish my stones were that clean of dust and smooth
very satisfying
May be irrelevant but what grit is the flap disk
I saw to huge balls as notification... needless to say clicked instantly xD
What disc is on the grinder there?
Looks like the deathstar. I love it
how much tacky do you actually use on 1stone?
Couldn't you use epoxy to coat the stone and still get the same adhesion from tacky on your hands?
pressure air line
will deadlifting and squatting help fix my anterior pelvic tilt? It's gotten much better than before but im still unsure as to how to brace my core properly.
Who is this guy and where is he?
Brian Shaw just uses concrete sealer.
Tacky and dusty stone's!! does Mick know?
I think those atlas stones look kinda tacky
That's alot of work and mess. Why didn't you just brush on concrete sealer? That's what its for.
Know anything about fixing broken stones?
I have no interest in making or using these stones but I still watched the video, good job
Take a shot of vodka every time he says "tacky"
Skinny Alan is No Bueno
Watch beard around rotating equipment! That's why I don't have a face anymore
See an Allan Thrall video Instant like
In this episode: Alan polishes his massive, sticky balls. Most original comment ever! Praise me!
always remember, "TREAD ON TIME"
why not just put it in the dishwasher? think of how much time you would save!
I thought i had a big job with 9 stones 😆🤦♂️
My tacky grabs the dust then is useless for a second rep. That's how bad mine are
Get some bums to shine up your stones for a fair price 👌
“Now I gotta do the same thing to all 30 stones” OOF.
