How to finish/restore Atlas Stones like the pros

Спорт

In this video I polish a new atlas stone and show you how to restore an old atlas stone. I am using spider tacky in this video, any tacky will work. Thanks to Steve Slater for teaching me how to finish a stone like the professionals use at World's Strongest Man.
You will need:
-Tacky if the you are polishing a new stone. No tacky is the old stone is already covered in tacky.
-angle grinder
-flap disk

Same, love my home gym strongman equipment... but an atlas stone will never make it's way into my house. Then again, I never thought I'd have a log but I got one now lol

I just placed an order for the 22" model. I've got natural stones to warm up on so a guy only needs one "real" atlas stone to come to grips with the event.

I'll probably never have to do this, but it does solve the curiosity I had about what made them shiny. 👍

Please only grind concrete with appropriately rated masks/dust extraction! Silicosis is bad news.

You'd be surprised what you see around industrial concrete saws. Everyone knows they're supposed to wear their PPE, but some guys just don't.

I had no idea that it was tacky that gave atlas stones a polished look, I honestly was expecting like a concrete/cement sealer or something. I learned something new! 💪

Nice job! I’ve done a lot of masonry grinding. Not to be a nag, but it’s good for people to wear hearing protection as well as a dust mask (which I saw you used). Perhaps you did? Hearing damage is progressive and irreversible.

Nothing involving clear consequences without protection should be a “nag.” That’s like discouraging kids from wearing helmets or padding while riding bikes or skateboards.

Hey Alan, Love your content. Great video, but are you at all concerned with your exposed beard while using the grinder? When I saw that I could not help but get nervous. Maybe tuck it into your shirt or wrap a scarf around your neck.

Great video! Does the tacky make a mess of the grinder attachment? I'm borrowing one for my new stone, so I don't want to ruin it. If so, I'll have to find a buffer!

So if you're lifting the shiny stone without applying (more) tacky, is it MORE slippery than if you stopped after sanding?
