Stromae Takes America - "Papaoutai" in New York City

Музыка

Lesson #1 - Papaoutai in NYC
Since the release of his North American debut album “Racine Carrée,” international superstar Stromae has gone on to sell more than 3.5 million albums, performed for thousands of fans in stadiums across the globe, and for the first time in pop history, will be the first ever French spoken artist to have headlined the prestigious Madison Square Garden in New York City this fall.
Joining him as special guest at Madison Square Garden is the incomparable Janelle Monáe for one night only on October, 1st 2015. Limited amount of tickets are now available for purchase here: bit.ly/1NsTtoM
The incredible Jidenna will also join Stromae as direct support for the tour (except for the 9/12 show in Miami).
High profile fans joining his legion of dedicated supporters include Lorde, Madonna, Diplo, Kanye West (who famously made a surprise appearance on stage at this year's Coachella), Boy George, Tove Lo, Icona Pop, Sam Smith amongst many others. They have all publically proclaimed their admiration for the Belgian artist, whose aforementioned full-length album reached #1 in the Billboard World Album Charts and reached multi-platinum status across the world.
This fall, one of the most truly unique and loved performers of our time, will be returning to North American shores for a headlining tour in continued support of “Racine Carrée.” A full list of dates can be found below. Tickets are available here: bit.ly/1NsTtoM

it's really sad, he sings "father where are you", his father died in Rwandan Genocide. it must be a bittersweet feeling that this song has made it big, having to remind himself of that fact. just like Eric Clapton's Tears in Heaven being about his son who died tragically as a child

I didn’t know this song was about this. It just sounded like something nice to dance to. Shout out to all the present and loving dads out there. As men the standard has really been set low, showing up, just showing up is like 90% of what we just have to do. To the men doing this and more. Salute. Interesting thing to think about, who raised irresponsible dads?

I mean, they don't see a music star they see some random lankey black guy they can't understand frankly dancing strangely on the street. (Not to be rude) Take a dose of context dude. Can't see talent when you see a guy with a synthesizer shouting nonsensical lyrics on the street in bright turquoise and orange with pics of a block man giving a block boy a piggy back ride. I'd see some weirdo tourist acting out for a laugh ala Logan Paul. Talent isn't talent, it's being well known and relatable. He is neither in the Americas

+Henry Ngo Suppose it is impossible to make the majority of a country know him just through festivals I suppose. Would think people would know him though when he was at Coachella, SXSW and more than one video with him on VEVO U.S. channel, even featuring on hot this week, also I believe he was on Jimmy Kimmel Live, PTX covered Papaoutai and also without forgetting Beats 1 Radio on iPhone etc. plays Stromae's music I believe. How many listeners does Beats 1 have? Perhaps people who listen to Beats 1 will recognise some of his songs but just don't know his name or what he looks like. I was confused the very first time I tried listening to Beats 1 and I heard Tous les mêmes I was quite surprised, thought that must be a positive sign for him. Sure he must be better known in U.S.A than in England. Was real shame when he had to pull out of probably his first festival in the UK, as well as being fifth down from the top of the lineup next to Clean Bandit and Jessie J, and likely on main stage even though hardly anybody knows him and his only song that charted and people know by him is Alors on Danse.

Btw, not all americans are dumb enough to like that song, just look at the comments of that music video. either educated people who hate it or 8 year olds who can't spell right who say they like to dance to it.

It must've been refreshing for him to not be recognized in public. He would not enjoy anonymity like this in Europe. Am really impressed that MSG was packed and many arenas around the US were also packed even if majority had no idea who he was. He's a marketing genius as well.
