Thanks Rob and Jesse! I found the Wilmar Corp. Performance Tool security torx hex bit set with two adapter sockets for $8.99 that includes sizes up to T55. This was a great addition for the Taco tool kit, available from ranch or auto supply stores. 😊

I’ve stayed off of tacomaworld for a couple of months to get myself under control after seeing all the builds. Then I see this video... Lol. The bumper shellz are still holding up perfectly on mine. Thanks for the videos and great work as always!

Rob Daman any issue with the seal between your cap and the tailgate since the new sheet metal is thinner than the original plastic ?

@@charliewillkom good question. yes it's thinner but it looks like the foam is close enough. My glass door seals on the the outside of the tailgate not the top of the gate so i think I'm good to go. If does does seep in I'll add a little more weatherstrip.

I have that same thing, I love it. I have Relentless Fabrication sliders, Stingray bumper, aluminum skids, bed bars and roof rack on my Taco. I LOVE their stuff!!!

Hey Rob, galvanic corrosion will occur if it is not properly sealed or separated . You actually can accelerate the process with the two different metals touching.

I fish alot and i actually kinda like the grooves in the oem panel, as im setting up fishing gear and such they keep my baits and hooks and sinker ect from rolling off lol. Almos like a kitchen drawer organizer for utensils.

I'm waiting for the UPS truck to meet the driver so he doesn't have to carry the Trail Gear HDPE tailgate insert upstairs. Oops, missed the truck and it's outside the door! As an All Pro Off Road product, it can be ordered from Wheelers and other Trail Gear companies.

Petri dish for rust of the gate and or oxidation of the aluminum but looks cool now.

The only bad thing that I can see is that is gonna be a reall6hot surface during the summer.

Yep, when that things sitting in the sun and you put your bare knees on it in the summer you'll bail fast! The guys I know that have them have put outdoor carpet on them to prevent burns and make it easier on the knees.

That’s a really nice product but Rob, it would literally melt the skin off your body with our brutal sun here in AZ. I would also suggest clear coating that aluminum. Although it will not rust, it will oxidize. Raw aluminum will not keep its pretty finish for long

Thanks for the tip. It was about 80 here yesterday at the meet and greet I hosted n it stayed cool since my shell door shaded it. 120+ Arizona heat...I wouldn't consider touching it

That's cool...but I wished u would of went and got the primer,base coat and clear coat....that will rust under there.....ur truck is looking sweet though my friend!!!!!

I'm not sure if you can replace the bracket but there's 2 other possible solutions. One is a Tailgate torsion bar and the other is a shock like they use for trunks

I was warned about the week tailgat on my tundra. Whats up with toyota making soft tailgates?

Type 3 anodizing and can do tan if u desired

I wanted something better for my knees since I have to climb up at times to reach in my Decked system. Also I wanted a table when tailgating at the mall or when off-roading. There are several popular options for the Tacoma out there in different materials and styles but I chose Relentless Fabrication. I wanted bare aluminum so I didn't have to worry about the finish and also it reminded me of those cool stainless steel table tops. Exactly what I need. Thanks for the heads up. Can't afford anything right now but my knees , or whatever is left of them would really appreciate it if I can do one day. Powder coating would strengthen it for the better aluminum is soft and scratches and dulls easily , I would powder coat it before I even installed it or right after the trial install and carefully tighten the screws just to be safe in case the "paint" is still a little soft....... Which is a good thing in this type of scenario. Sweet find Man👍

I have a question.. on your tailgate chains. Is it true the left side is suppose to be a little lose when the tailgate comes down? This is what the dealership told me.

Hi I haven't made any changes to the seals. The canopy window seals in the same spot. I'll be testing it hopefully soon and see how the results are. thanks

The snugtop window in this video doesn't doesn't contact that part of the tailgate so it wasn't an issue. The Bestop soft cover (installed later)used a frame so that wasn't an issue either.

I'm getting ready to do the same mod. What brand of clear coat did you use to touch up around the painted torx screws to prevent rust?

Definite good truck but I wanted a flat surface.

I purchased a used 2009 Tacoma SR5 a few years back and the tailgate was bowed out. Looked like the fat lady at the circus was sitting on my tailgate. Ended up making my own reinforcement out of heavy gauge steel and painting it with bed liner paint. How does the aluminum hold up over the long term?? Might just add this to my 2017 Tacoma?

The alum should be good especially since it's got several bends for rigidity. Also Relentless has been making them since 2010 for 1st and 2nd gens so it's been tested out long term.

Montana White I did that exact thing when my RC51 and I were heading to a track day. I hit a pretty decent whoop de doo on the highway, heard a crunch, pulled over, and saw my tailgate was now U-shaped...😡🖕🏻
