Top stuff. One thing which m not able to decifer is why Yo Yo test is mandatory for Indian national cricket player. If they fail the test, they will be dropped from selection. I understand that endurance is one component in cricket as games are long but anaerobic capacity is more precise quality they should be focusing on.

Yea I would certainly agree with you. Perhaps the people deciding on the test are not necessarily experts on energy systems.

Fast Bowling Energy System demand within one over: 3-4 minutes, ~1:6 Work:Rest, Predominantly Anaerobic Fast Bowling Energy System demand within a 5-over spell: 30-40 minutes, ~1:1 Work:Rest, Predominantly Aerobic Additionally, while the immediate (ATP-PC) and Anearobic systems are great at producing energy, they are both time limited. ATP-PC is limited by substrate availability, as PC is broken down to convert ADP back to ATP (The main energy molecule). Anaerobic system is limited by the build-up of waste products, predominantly H+ ions, which affect the muscle ion balance and reduce contraction force. While not necessarily used for force production, the aerobic energy system provides the energy to replenish PC stores and remove waste products. As such, Aerobic fitness is widely regarded as a Key Performance Indicator for cricket, and tested appropriately. Additionally, the required standard of fitness for the Indian team is not particularly high either. Unless it has been updated again since 2020, it was either a certain distance in the yo-yo test or less than 8 minutes for a 2km Time Trial. Regarding the Time Trial specifically, I have coached 11 year old rep cricketers that are at that standard.
