@@rainbowsparkles5304 Yes, I felt that! When you're bursting with emotion, but you stop yourself from being too loud or doing fast movements so you don't startle the animal. They're very considerate. Boysie chose well! :D

He was just being extra careful. Having obviously been through some scraps, he simply wasn't going to let his guard completely down until he was absolutely sure. Glad you found your home, Boysie!

Awwww, so sweet! I trapped and neutered a skinny striped gray stray tom that had been hanging around our house like Boysie, spraying his "perfume" and garnering the wrath of our cats through the screen. I'd been feeding him for a while and he was starting to trust me, but I figured the trauma of the mandatory vet visit would scare him away. Happily I couldn't have been more wrong! We had to keep him inside for the night after surgery, so gave him his own space in the laundry room. When morning came I thought he'd want to fly out the door or fight with the other cats he'd smelled under the door, but he just wanted food, and actually let me pet him. The cats all greeted each other with nary a hiss, and he is now everyone's best friend and the peace ambassador of our motley crew, full of love and gratitude.

My family had a similar thing happen. The cat was HUGE and fluffy and started out just approaching us in the garage. But when we finally earned his trust, he just became the most affectionate and needy cat. Unfortunately, he passed on shortly after. But I’m happy we were able to at least make him feel loved before he did.

Lol. All of my cats have been strays, one of which was an actual feral that I live trapped. I keep food out all winter in case a stray shows up. And I've found homes for many of them besides the ones that now live with me. I used to joke that there was a newsletter that went out between cats that told them that my home was a good place to get a meal, a treat, and some love if they wanted it. 😋

Not all cats can adapt to living inside permanently however, especially those who are part feral and those with many other cats in the small houses the UK has. One of our cats was only truly happy when she was outside. She hated with a passion all her cat family members and would get so stressed if kept in. Cats are more independent than dogs are. We don't have coyotes in the UK, but we do have foxes, birds of prey, dogs and sadly, many cars in the UK, however, most foxes and birds of prey tend to actually be more scared and at risk from cats than the other way around. The only true dangers tend to be from other cats, dogs and the most being cars. We allow our cats outside to wander freely in the daytime but always try to keep them all in at night as night time and the early morning is the most dangerous time for birds and mice getting caught and for cats from speeding cars.
