Johann Strauss II (October 25, 1825 - June 3, 1899), was an Austrian composer of light music, particularly dance music and operettas. He composed over 500 waltzes, polkas, quadrilles, and other types of dance music, as well as several operettas and a ballet. In his lifetime, he was known as "The Waltz King", and was largely then responsible for the popularity of the waltz in Vienna during the 19th century. Strauss was admired by other prominent composers: Richard Wagner once admitted that he liked the waltz "Wein, Weib und Gesang" Op. 333. Johannes Brahms was a personal friend of Strauss; the latter dedicated his waltz "Be Embraced, You Millions!", Op. 443, to him.

My father was from a third world country, he had a third grade education , he had a record player, and used to listing many of this songs back in the 60s, He used to explained to me, but I was not interested, well I’m now, I wish he can be here and explained what he knew about music, he is watching me from heavens smiling to see how much I enjoy this beautiful music

Dad introduced me to classical music and Pink Floyd in high school, and it was enjoyable even stealing his Walkman just to enjoy the music

I went to boarding school in England in the 1950s and early 1960s because mY parents served in the foreign service and were posted to remote, sometimes dangerous places. I was lonely and not as tough as some of the boys. I LOVED Herbert Von Karajan and the Vienna orchestra. Nearly 80 now and still can’t get enough.

@@joanlo3295 ...No matter...I'm as old as you and her put together and stlill feel I belong in that era...so much so I up and moved from Australia 10years ago to live in amongst it all. Have been to 3 balls like this, in the Hoffburg Palace in Vienna. It is amazing to feel the ara all around and through you...indescribable!

My grandfather (who is also my godfather) made me discover Strauss when I was 11. Now at the age of 46, I still love this music so much and my grandfather has passed away (that's life). I miss him very much and this music always reminds me him. When I listen to "Roses from the South", I always nearly cry...

Thank God for my mother's love of classical music. We had a collection of albums back in the '60s, and I would pull them out to play them. Some were among the beautiful waltzes of these composers. Like the other listener with same story below, I credit my mother for developing my appreciation of classical music.
I grew up listening to all kind of classical music since my parents had lots and lots of records of this sorts along with. Record Player . LOVE WALTZES, and I would love to go back in time to that era and dance, dance away the waltzes and the rest of all classical music. This music is absolutely inspiring, it lift your spirits and takes you back to a great time of exquisite music with the most gifted and talented musicians of all times 🎵 it is beautiful and happy music, it is pure joy. God bless the souls of ALL COMPOSERS OF PAST CENTURIES since they are IRREPLACEABLE. Long live the waltzes and classical music forever! 🙏🙏👏👏👏👏👍👍🙌🙌🙌🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Listening to Strauss reminds me of when my mum used to play Strauss waltzes on her stereo as we used to call it. All the rest of her music was Tom Jones and Engelbert Humperdinck (the singer). She didn't have any pretensions regarding classical music just loved Strauss. 19 years now since she passed away. What was every day back then is now a diamond in my memory. Here's to you dear mum Alice.

So did my mom also in the 50s, I am now 76 but these waltzes have been with me and will be with me until the last beat of my heart, because that is the way with all of the passionate few, the happy few like you and me
My introduction to Johann Strauss II was in 1968 when I was 11, via a certain science-fiction movie which used the Blue Danube Waltz in an unexpected but inspired way. 54 years later I still listen to his music on KZread and play it on the piano.

Mom played piano, was a licensed teacher invited to sit in the Chicago Symphony Orchestra during WWII. Mom played for hours on end while carrying me. Maybe that is why I love classical music so much?

This music is like a timetravel...I love old Austria, Vienna and this is not possible imagine without Strauss. He is a part of this City❤

My secondary school principal insisted that all students learn to dance the waltz to these classics. This was my intro to classical orchestrated music. Fifty seven years later I am still thanking him and enjoying the experience with deep warm emotions.🎻🎻😊

@@mariaesperanzamoctezuma4679 не то что сейчас.. пфф ненавижу 21 век, хотя я и родился в 2006, но все равно я ненавижу свой век, отдавая предпочтение классике XIX и XVIII веков и тому "переходному периоду", а скорее даже веку по своему особенному, вбирающему несколько эпох - XX. А еще я не люблю Россию - свою родную страну, в отличие от Санкт-Петербурга, малой своей Родины, вам всем все же посоветую приехать хоть раз в этот прекрасный город на брегах Невы! Здесь чудесно!

Talofa & Aloha! Ioe, e moni lava! I don't know how to dance (waltze), but with Strauss conducting, I can waltze as if across a dance hall in Vienna. Now when I take a break at home, I dance to Strauss across the hallway. Yes with a glass of red wine will complete the day. Enjoy. Faamanuia Le Atua.
Strauss II Walzes remind me of a nice place where people were eating ice creams on the big plates decorating with tasty cookies while listening this kinds of pleasant music on the street.
Strauss is capable of lifting my spirits whenever I am in a bad mood.

The "Belle époque" was surely not a civilized place. It was violent, racist, sexist, war was everywhere, and very inequal. But, well, if you were part of those people who could go to a concert of M.Strauss, maybe it was good for you, after all :)

I suffer currently os schizophrenia and I just come here and listen to some Strauss and I go deep into my thoughts imagining nature surrounding me ahh... Yes. I wonder if someday evil and death will end and good shall prevail I'm sick of this evil world. I hope YAHWEH comes soon.

Меня часто спрашивают:" откуда у тебя такой хороший музыкальный слух и вкус? "Да просто все мое детство прошло в ритмах вальсов Штрауса. После войны папа привез приемник ВЭФ ( я из поколения " дети войны") и первое музыкальное произведение, покорившие меня и определившее мои музыкальные привязанности, был вальс Штрауса "На голубом Дунае". Воскресение я часто начинаю чашечкой кофе и музыкой Штрауса в Вашем восхитительном исполнении, даёт силу, энергию, радость жизни, не смотря ни на что.❤🎉

This music is so soothing. Its great for meditation and just for relaxing. Never get tired of Strauss. I grew up on the classics! Every Sunday afternoon my grandparents would put on the old 78 records to Beethoven, Strauss, Mozart and Chopin!
