STRANGE RESORT: "Sometimes They Come Back"

#stephenking #horrorstories
Welcome back to the Stephen King Book Club… today we are exploring King’s short story “Sometimes They Come Back” featured in his collection NIGHT SHIFT.
One of my favorite things to do as a Constant reader is to wonder what happens after a story… and I have definitely wondered what happens after the end of “Sometimes They Come Back”
So, I decided to send our investigative reporter / ghost-hunter George Hatfield to see what he could find about Mr. Jim Norman and his students at Harold Davis High School… including three hoodlums named Vincent Corey, David Garcia, and Robert Lawson.
No surprise… Things get diabolical… and things definitely come back.
Big thanks to everyone who has recently joined the channel! We recently passed 5000 subscribers, and I can’t tell you how encouraging you’ve been! Thank you!

Usually, ghosts come back because they have good unfinished business (they need to reveal their murderer, tell someone where the money is hidden, they have to look out for someone). The bullies come back specifically because they didn't get to kill the protagonist. It's like they petitioned Satan and said "Sir, we didn't get a chance to wreak as much havoc as we could. Can we go back?" and the rest is history.

It seems Georgie boy came somewhat prepared for Room 33, but he forgot two other things: Some vials of blessed salt for a protection circle, and more blessed salt loaded into a 12-gauge shotgun. Learned that trick from two rather "entrepreneurial" monster hunters. (Don't ask...)

What's the Name of The book. I believe it was written by Stephen King. The book is about a detective Who gets calls from the same woman about A scratching noise in her closet Its been happening a couple of days now And as soon as they arrive, they start inspecting the house. No scratch marks and marks And they shrug it off to be a mouse Chewing her wood The detectives calmly leave Then hours later. they get the same call again. But This time, the old woman is sitting out On her front porch All of a mess, like with a rat nest for a hair The detectives inspect the House and find out the whole house has been trashed gunshot holes inside the closet, scratch marks, I think Blankens tossed over I. think the roof was shot up. I cannot remember much But the detectives calmly sit around the couch and ask her to explain what happened And as she does so, she says After the detectives left. the scratch marks continued When she goes to Investigate the sound herself, but not. there. No scratch marks, nothing And she strikes to believe it's in her head As soon as she goes off the bed The scratch monks continue. And she tries to ignore them and they just. grow louder Then she goes downstairs and they Are just getting Louder and louder And And finally, the scratch marks stopped. And the voice of her husband started to ask her to open the closet. This time, she didn't want to. The husband begged with her to open the closet But she still refused Then the voice changed from her husband to something else As she quickly grabs her shotgun, she loads up two shells and starts blasting holes in the Closet She quickly calls the detectives In the creatures says tonight She quickly. rushes outside, waiting for them. Detective felt bad for her. so they holler off to A hotel So she can rest They leave just to get a permission To take her to the senior home. As soon as they return to the hotel, there's a bunch of investigators looking around One of the detectives spot blood marks. Leading all the way to the closet.

@@stephenkingbookclub1054 Well, it's pretty good except the occasional plosive. I listened to one or two of your readings. I've got two pop screens on my mics and I still occasionally get too much low end BOOM when I do a P sound and I have to edit it and apply some eq to JUST the P and lower around say 100 hz by like 10 db to get rid of that one BOOF sound. Luckily, it doesn't happen that often. Also, do you listen back to your entire read with headphones or good monitors? Maybe it's not financially feasible to listen back and edit? I always do that which doubles the time it takes me but I like to deliver a clean file with no pops, clicks, booms, etc. May I ask... how did you land this gig? From some agency or through a pay-to-play site? Just curious. Keep rockin!
