I made a mistake with the name of the Dad's character. "James" instead of "Mark"... I'm still not sure how I got that so wrong, LOL. So then I decided, since I was going to re-upload, I might as well add a bit more details from the story.

I know George Hatfield was really unhappy with Jack, regarding the debate team and assault. But from what I read in the novel, it seemed like Jack was liked by his students and faculty. Faculty saw him as a drunk, but as far as I could tell, he wasn't a bad teacher.
