Yes, we know it's really RICHARD BACHMAN'S THE LONG WALK... but that might get as many views... But I will say this, there is a grittiness to the Bachman books which you don't see as much in King's tales... ad this is definitely true in the disturbing novel "The Long Walk."
Tonight, we present a little audio production... a sports broadcast, if you will, which provides a play-by-play of this brutal event -- a Hunger Game before the existence of the Hunger Games.
Should we keep this project going? Let me know in the comments if you would like to continue to hear more about the LONG WALKERS in this format... or maybe this is enough? As always, thank you for your feedback and encouragement

This is one of my favourite King stories, very good and creepy rendition so far. Props for not "playing favourites" in your narration and giving away the identity of the protagonist.

When I read this as an adolescent, what struck me was that there was no talk between the boys about what previous winners had asked for.

I think Mr Thompson was drawing something of a long bow by asserting that all the boys understood what they were doing. Just as even today's volunteer soldiers don't realise what they're in for when they go to war, it becomes clear by their reaction, as the story progresses, that many of the boys did not fully absorb the fact of their death - despite the application process, despite having at least known about if not witnessed the annual event. Additionally, I cannot help but note the commentator's excitement and anticipation as the possibility of a 'ticket' increases. Things have not changed since Roman times. Great work all round.

Anyone listening and watching the far end of the road, waiting to see walkers come round the bend? 😊 I did 3 - 60 mile breast cancer walks back in the day and the commentary makes me think of those! (Granted, no warnings, no mph limit, etc LOL) Also, probably my favorite King story, besides The Stand.)

Death Games like the Long Walk are already disturbing. But having a commentary like this over it makes it worse. It's like the world is so used to this nightmare that it's just another day. All to say this is well done.

Apparently the Duffer brothers from Stranger Things and a very well known producer are collaborating to make a movie based on this story. As I used to just about walk everywhere I went when I was young this has become favorite of mine

I woke up literally talking to my fiance about how badly I would love to see this story made into a film along with the unwound series which I thought was slotted to be made into a movie series and while a very controversial topic for loads of people, I think both stories would adapt to the screen amazingly due to the insanely good detail put into both stories. I understand this is a short story written under a pen name so it doesn't get as much clout as it probably would have with the Steven king name attached to it, but I personally am not a huge fan of his writing style and found myself pleasantly surprised with how good this story was while still being agonizingly depressing. My favorite story mr king has ever penned by far.

Read this story many moons ago.I remember wondering back then what would motivate a 13+ boy to jump through all the hoops necessary to enter such a contest. I know as young people, if we haven’t been touched by tragedy, we have no concept of our mortality. We think we’ll live forever. Is that the reason these boys entered this contest because they didn’t fully grasp what they were “walking” into? This was a good Stephen King story but I always found it a tad disturbing. On another note, just found your channel. I love your narrations and I became a subscriber. Wish you much success.❤

Last boy walking is not entirely accurate. A boy can win without walking. Scenario is two boys left. One boy has 3 warnings and the other has no warnings. Boy with 3 warnings falls under 4 mph. Boy without warnings stops walking. Boy that is walking under 4 mph gets his ticket. Boy that stopped walking wins. Better to say last boy alive wins.

I've come to the conclusion that it's OK not be accurate when describing The Long Walk. You just want to give people the gist. You can say stuff like "3 strikes and you're out" which is entirely wrong because you don't get a ticket on the 3rd warning, but it's OK. People still get the right idea. The KingTuber FrostyKnives13 has at least 28 mistakes in his review of TLW, but his review is fascinating and will make you want to read it. But I nitpick every little thing. You can't call them boys because the age range is 13 to 18 and you're considered a "man" at 18, and no longer a child. People say it's the "near future" but it's clearly dated in the 60s and 70s. King wrote it in the 60s then revised it in the 70s so it kind of has a mix. There's a milk man. Do we still have milk men? It mentions The Ladies Aid which was a strong force in the 60s but has nearly died out now. If it was the near future, it would feature AI, smart phones, drones, robots, electric cars, etc. But it's OK to say the novel is in the near future as a way of explaining why this thing exists, even though it's an alternate reality of the past. I wonder how the movie will explain how it exists.@@stephenkingbookclub1054
