THE JAUNT | Teleportation • Consciousness • Water Crisis
Ойын-сауық
In honor of Leap Day, David takes a look at a short story that also deals with the wonkiness of time: Stephen King’s science-fiction horror teleportation tale "THE JAUNT," from the 1985 collection SKELETON CREW.
Along the way, David also explores...
• the "Framed Narrative" storytelling device, using THE PRINCESS BRIDE and THE USUAL SUSPECTS as examples
• human consciousness, citing Sam Harris and René Descartes
• the global water crisis
And of course, David reads plenty of excerpts from the short story, including the infamous horrifying ending. So inhale a lungful of gas and strap in as David teleports you into the dark corners of Stephen King's mind with... THE JAUNT!

Great video! Another great frame story from King is The Wind Through the Keyhole. That has a story within a story within another story.

Ah, nice pull! Great use of frame narrative in that story.
I was pretty underwhelmed with this short story after hearing it talked up so heavily, I’ll have to give it a reread 😅

I think it's definitely worth another look, especially since it's a quick read and has such a fun ending.
