Thanks for "fessing up" Chris - we've all been there, rushing to get a job done then regretting making a mistake, never mind it doesn't seem like a lot of harm was done and hopefully they'll sell, albeit at a slightly lower value ! I've got a selection of those pulleys myself that I inherited, but I also have some vintage machinery to restore that uses them, one day I'll get round to doing it !

Seems it hasn't made much difference to the price Andy as I have a $200 bid on eBay already! Hope it goes higher! 😁 Yep, pulleys & vintage machinery are made for each other! 👍😊

monitors have coatings on the screen! who knew? (does remind me Dad did this about 30yrs ago with a 68cm box TV). That needing to be triggered is like when some TVs need a remote to turn on, this is great info to know. I've just checked out Steve's Electronic Repair Shop (youtube) and subscribed, and a quick scroll looks like there's HEAPs of video's i'll be checking out soon for my next round of My "storage shed"(wherever it fit at the time storage).

The built in degaussing button/option can really make the screen look better after a few cycles if they've gotten too close to one of your magnets.

Is that the 'reset' button Martin? I didn't try pressing that..

  • @martincowie4520

@@TheUltimateRecycler No the degauss option can either be its own button or an option via the onscreen menu or some that can be triggered after a hard reset. You'd normally hear a click/twang come from the monitor and the image becomes unstable for a couple of seconds. The reset button on a monitor was more to do with stretching the screen, to make the image fill as much of the screen as possible.

$10 for that box of carriage bolts is a steal. Here in Canada, those larger sizes can go for $1 and up each. I just bought some new at our local hardware store and am still suffering from the sticker shock.

IPA to clean a computer monitor?! You Aussies do use beer for everything! I guess I understand, I do use a nice Pilsner in the shower to clean my hair, on occasion. My Blond Ale girlfriend likes the way it smells.

It's too bad they didn't write the, plug in to computer first, information on the monitors. Would save a bunch of wasted effort. Glad they worked after all. Glad to see bare shelves. So much room in that emergency shed.

Yep, it would have been sensible to have a notice on the monitor! I wonder how many got thrown out because people didn't know!

could you touch on what's needed to test these monitors at some point also, do they just need the VGA cord and power or is it some other cable i'd need an ancient computer to run (My old laptop still has a VGA output). I'm sure i've seen CRT monitors thrown out in the past but not in recent years, (i did pick up an iMac G3 recently though after seeing Ewaste Ben mention they were collectable/have value).

All three monitors I tested just had a VGA cord and the power cord - no other inputs. I have more monitors deep in the shed and I think some of them are older monochrome ones!
