Also, I now have an Amazon storefront where I share links to assorted tools & equipment I use and recommend. As well, I'll be adding links for various supplies and products used in my videos as time goes on. Even if you purchase something on Amazon totally unrelated after entering through one of my links, it really helps support my channel with a small commission.. and it costs you nothing extra at all! 😊👍
Thanks for watching!

I'm sure with a bit more time into it, you could have fixed it, but for you, time is money. Thanks Chris. 👍

The time verses money thing usually doesn't matter Alex! I may well go back and have another look soon! 🙄🤣
Well, that must have been frustrating Chris, but realistically you can't expect to have success every time ! It is amazing how much they've slimmed down CD/DVD players over the years, I've still got my Denon CD player from the mid eighties, still going strong and built like a tank so pretty heavy !

Yeah, most repairs are a pool of frustration - it's just the depth that varies! 🤣🤣

Ah Chris I hope it sells soon or your curiosity means we are going to see this unit again! In any case this type of troubleshooting effort is never wasted. It's just more experience in diagnosis and technique. Sometimes the laser power can be adjusted as it may dim over time but more likely perhaps is the laser has failed. Of course your usual snooping for bad capacitors and solder joints is top notch and often yields results. On to the next! Exciting progress in the emergency storage shed!

Bugger! I have a few other ideas and might re-visit this unit soon!
I love Marantz tuna especially with mayo and a little mustard, dashed with pepper and dill. Oh, wait, did you say Marantz tunER... My bad, that goes better with ranch dressing.

They can't all be winners. Good going on those monitor sales though

I'd like them all to be winners! It depends on my available time and stubbornness at the time though! Yeah, happy to move the monitors on quickly 👍😊
Thanks Dave, I love seeing the progress from the shed!

Thanks Faye! Coco says Hi! 🐶😀
Yeah i've got a Toshiba cd player (they were one of the inventors of cd) and its a little bit bigger than the marantz, and yeah talk bout heavy. They made em solid, repairable and to last back then.

They sure did! It's actually nice to feel the weight of these units! Thanks for watching 😊👍
Haven't finished watching yet, but the old philosophy looks to be in play: when in doubt, pull it apart. It didn't work before so you can't end up worse off. I look forward to see what happens, although the video title might have given it away.

Thanks mate! Yep, a favourite philosophy of mine! No luck this time - but I may go back to it for another look soon.. 😀
My Marantz thinks cd is a futuristic concept that will never catch on. It's a 1030.
I love vintage marantz equipment, I have a cassette player and a amplifier of similar style in my bunch of stuff to try to repair….

Yep, it is great stuff! I have a Marantz tuner I listen to nearly every day in my workshop! I probably have other units stashed away! 🙄 Thanks Retif 😊
hi,i don't think you adjusted the power to the lazer, that probably why its not reading the disc, they get weak with age...there is alot of videos to show how to do it....i just fixed my multi cd which stopped working years ago,so then i had to play tapes and eventually that stopped working....now it in bits on kitchen table, but ive fixed both cd and tape now....😃

Thanks Melissa, that's a great suggestion! I'll go back in for another look soon I think! 👍😊
You mentioned an earth wire, but that looks like a double insulated 2 core plug on the bench at 5:20 ?

The only other thing you could check, is a region free disk, or just a couple more discs to rule out the long shot of dye type incompatibility, not that those CDs looked like silver CDRs.
@TheUltimateRecycler

The unit is double insulated Martin. The earth wire was just an earth link to connect the CD mechanism to the main chassis. I did try another commercial CD with the same result, so I think I can rule that out. A few have suggested adjusting the laser power, so I may go back in for another look..
Lasers do degrade with age. Your focus and tracking servos may be gummed up too.

Thanks, yes - a few have suggested trying to adjust the laser power. I may have to go back in and try that! 👍👍

@@TheUltimateRecycler be careful as you can overdrive and kill it. Also remember CD lasers are invisible to our eyes and therefore can be dangerous

The laser gets dirty and doesn't read the info on the disc. Might be the issue.
