Thanks so much!
Love the ED-209 reference, one of my favorite movies. We need more Paul Verhoeven. These gangs hit my neighborhood so hard that police started staking out Toyotas.

Yikes!
This is an excellent solution for 4Runners that aren't expected to be used for heavy off-road life. Thankfully, many skid plate companies are making their skid plates block the cats or creating add-on wings that bolt onto their mid plates to protect the cats.

Agreed. A slightly thicker version of the same shield would be fantastic! I'll update you all on how it holds up. I don't do much "rock crawling" but all the stock skid plates have gotten quite a lot of use over the past few years.

@@JasonExplainsThings It looks like it'll hold up to moderate scraps just fine. I hope it serves you well. Great video Jason!
Which salesman would you recommend at the dealership you used? I'm finally in a financial position to order a new Taco, kinda bummed they don't have the army green anymore.

Zoilo Angeles! He's a great guy. Tell him I said hi. I don't know if you saw my last video, but I'm having issues with that dealership with regard to purchasing parts. They unfortunately are doing some shady things. But for purchasing a new vehicle... they're great to work with.

Daniel, will you try to get one of the last 3rd Gens or wait for a 2024?
4runner is looking great. Are those stock size KO2s or did you upsize to 285/70/17?
@JasonExplainsThings

Stock sized KO2. May go with 285s later.

@@JasonExplainsThings I’m trying to decide between 265 and 285 ko2s with the eibach lift. It comes down to mpg vs looks, but yours looks pretty good with the 265s. What mpg are you getting? The 285s can push you sub 15mpg (with a modest lift like the eibach).

Is there a reason nobody puts specs on youtube videos like this? For example what 4Runner models does this work for?
@JasonExplainsThings

The video has specs that aren’t already self explanatory… torque specs, etc. It will work on any 5th gen 4Runner. Also the link in the description gives all info you need.
Good stuff, do they just make them for Toyotas?

Probably but it will void your warranty.

Mostly Toyota, but the also make them for some Honda and Lexus vehicles.

Only issue was it cost me about 100 bucks more for trans fluid change at the dealer due to having this on. But I suppose it’s still cheaper in the long run .

Thanks for the heads up. I'm about to install this in my 4runner. Sucks about your bad back, but at least it gives others a heads up to remove it if possible before we take it in for the transfluid change.
Ok - now that you installed the equipment. Get your battery powered cut off wheel and show how long it takes to “remove” it for cat extraction. Nice idea but it guessing it will only add seconds to removing the cat

Donut media did a test on how long it takes to cut a cat sized hole in a steel plate of similar gague thicness and it came out to about 7.5 minutes to just cut the hole. Just search "We Tested Catalytic Converter Anti-Theft Products" here on youtube.
This doesn't look nearly heavy enough gauge. It'll add a few minutes to the hack out time but, imo, will not dissuade any thief.

For sure it won't stop a determined thief (nothing will) but it might just have them not bother and go on to the next easy target.

@Wade Duvall I'd disagree. Cat thieves almost universally have angle grinders. This presents maybe 15 secs delay. By the time a guy is under a car to see this, the commitment is there. This thing has to be skid plate steel (several minutes of cutting) in stoutness to be worth the bother.
I think the enforcement droid would be very human to deal with them. 😂
