This is why people on National TV with National Animal Television Shows aren’t able to help sometimes.. it’s sad and so tempting for people to tell people “Why are they NOT helping the animal?” They’re not able to. Just like in many movies _always_ get back up, no matter how much pain it takes, you GAIN strength, and inspiration every time you get back up knowing you’re strong, and independent to do something.

I really needed this! I feel that if I’m not helping someone who needs it that I am failing them in some way. As someone who is going into the mental health field it is good to keep in mind that we cannot save people. We can give them the tools they need but ultimately it is up to them to decide to save themselves. Great video!

This is true, but also don’t get this confused. People can use this as an excuse to be shitty to others, because “you need to learn to be tough” stuff like that, etc. The key is knowing when it’s necessary to help and when it’s not

The way I see it, it's fine to help someone as long as it's not because you are imposing your will onto the person without taking them into consideration first. For example, with the chick, you are imposing your will onto the chick when it's not strictly necessary. *You* thought the chick would suffer so you acted without actually taking the chick's needs/feelings into account. There are times when your 'help' is not only unwelcome, but directly and imminently detrimental to them (as opposed to harming them down the line). Moments where you are acting as a result of your personal morals or ideals will almost always backfire. You and whoever you're helping (if they're a person) usually won't share the same exact morals or idea of what constitutes as 'okay', and there are many times where those ideas might even run contrary to each other. If you decide to act based solely on *your* idea of what they need, you could be doing the complete opposite of what they actually need or will actually accept. In addition, the threshold of how significant an action can be before you start imposing differs depending on the person you're helping. For example, people who let others do everything for them while they sit there twiddling their thumbs obviously have a much lower threshold because they need to learn how to actually do things for themselves. So even simple favors (depending on the context) can turn out to be detrimental to them in the long run. If they ask you to do something for them with the intent to shuck their work off, that's one thing; but if they're asking for help with something bc they want to learn to do something, then you can help. In the case of close friends and family (generally people who you know very well), you might have the knowledge necessary to impose sooner than you would for others. For example, if there is something you do to help them that you know they have historically not only tolerated, but welcomed, it's pretty safe to say you're okay to do that as long as you doing it under the same context as you've done it before. Another thing to note: small acts of kindness are often fine: unless the person in question *really* got messed up by life and has trust issues or an aversion towards kindness or something along those lines, occasionally offering them a treat/their favorite food or offering (keyword *offering*, not immediately doing/granting) them comfort is probably okay. TL;DR: don't mindlessly insert yourself into situations simply because you *can* or 'should' (bc of your personal morals/ideals/ethics). Rather, insert yourself when you can fulfill objective needs *if* you know they want you to help. Otherwise, you're relegated to a passive support role until they finally want your help (if you are truly dedicated to helping that person).

Me too It sucks because I’m drained emotionally and financially from helping others. I’ve started to focus on me more now and I’ve said “No” last year to a friend but it actually forced her to go and figure it out for herself. I felt like shi^ after but it was better for both of us. Practice saying No is my advice and change the subject when you can feel that someone is gonna ask for a favour or to borrow from you. No without an explanation works well btw. Don’t let anyone know your business or how much you have saved, income etc. Even your relationship keep that the most private. Family included

Never saw him again until 1 yr ago and as soon as he saw me he started to cry and walked up and gave me a hug and said thank you. He is training you, and letting you endure pain for the greater good. Don’t give up, God still loves you. He is always in control❤️

Look, I may not be a fan but I can appreciate an attempt at helping people. But unfortunately I must say this. The message you’re trying to get across here is that we should not help people so they can suffer more to get stronger. But I have to ask, what if they can’t be stronger. What if the suffering only makes them weaker. Because as much as I like to believe you’ve gone through hardship and I’m sure you have, you don’t talk like it. Saying how you shouldn’t help people. Because I can tell you. You’ve been helped plenty by people and thanked them, or not. But saying this kind of stuff is damaging man. Im a teen and I understand that stuff, I’ve suffered and needed help and what happened when I didn’t get help? I suffered more and became weaker mentally. This way you think in the vid works on some people. But to say it works on them all is just so bad. And look, you do good things and have improved a bit since your earlier years and controversial topics. But this is just going back to then, it’s disappointing really to see you put this very specific situation and apply it to everyone. Cause what you failed to mention is that suffering isn’t the only way to become stronger. Determination is also a key ingredient. And as someone who is suffering from depression myself, I want help, I need help. But I’m not in a situation where I can get it. I’m not stronger for suffering. I’m weaker emotionally. You don’t get stronger from suffering, not without determination. Your way of comparing it to a chick dying is also disgusting, it’s almost guilt tripping. If I said that to my friend who has lost someone close to them that they tried to help, I could expect them to either leave me, or this world. That’s just not right. My point? Don’t apply a broad case to a wide audience and pose it as fact. It’s not S.M.A.R.T. Is the dumbest thing you can do.
