There are so many personal development books that changed my life, but after getting so many book recommendations and reading all of them, I started to realize that the best books weren't personal growth books at all - the best self help books are the ones that are foundational to improving ourselves but which aren't usually considered self improvement books. These top self help books are ones you'd least expect, but if you read these books FIRST, you'll find yourself far better positioned to actually use a lot of the information you learn in these books.

Well worth it!! Let me know what you think about it.
I think another important component to this is understanding how YOU learn. something I did not ever know about until my mid 30s. For example, I'm a tactile and visual learner, which is why I get more out of videos, comics and taking things apart than I do from just reading something which is helpful but I just don't get as much out of. I think it was why I struggled with algebra in school as opposed to geometry which i can visually see or measure if I had the tools.
@stephenpetro411

That's true - and actually that's why I really like the book "Limitless" - because it addresses those learning differences. That being said, learning from books in general is very limited. It's only when we apply the principles through real experience that we *actually* learn.
Thank you so much 😊. Why aren’t there more people talking and sharing about this.

Amazing video sir, I'll definitely be sharing your information with my circle and looking into these texts that I'd once looked over. Also, thank you for also explaining the importance of the news. I used to always believe it to be nothing but propaganda and negativity, but there's far more to it than that, and I'm very glad you defined this. Very sound advice in all, subscribed!

I appreciate it - and more to come! With respect to the news, yes absolutely it's all about being an active learner and actively seeking out the information we want to stay up-to-date about instead of simply taking on a passive role with respect to news consumption.
Subscribed! I have many self-help books/audio programs but I still don't see any significant improvement in my life. Will be reading the books you mentioned in the video. Four of the books except Captivate are available in the local book stores in my country.

Some self help books are really good - the problem in my opinion is just when you start reading it as a hobby, always thinking that you need more books to solve your problems. It’s essential to find a balance between reading and practicing - actually a lack of balance, because you need to output more than you consume
@stephenpetro411

You are 100% correct here - exactly. Real learning comes from consuming information, then action, then reviewing/consuming information, then action.
Great video. On tge part how to deal with people i would say fiction books in general. There are so many studies that is almost a fact, creading fiction increase our empathy. And empathy, instintivly will teach how to deal with people.

Serious comment and question: you recommend a book on good thinking (logic), but on your fifth recommendation you appeal to the celebrities of Robbins and Chopra, both of who are people who rely on illogical, un-scientific, even anti-scientific thinking? How do reconcile this? Thank you in advance
@stephenpetro411

This is a great question! I am not a big fan of what they teach either, although many of their ideas have a foundation in scientific findings (i.e., we can trace the simplistic idea of "believe in yourself, and you'll succeed" to the well-demonstrated concept of self-efficacy in social cognitive theory). So actually, if I were to elaborate on that point I made in the video about Psychocybernetics, I believe this book itself to have many sound and legitimately useful claims, but much of what has come after it that expounds upon it has distorted much of it. I hope that helps!

05:40 personality test is also bs but i think you are talking along the lines of introspection , empathy( getting in others prospective or shoe ) , game theory ( here in this context individualistic approach to external stimuli or subject or object to acclaimed internalised goals or prospects) , am i wrong here if so how and why , please also add ( plus english is my 3rd language so sorry if any mistakes and do point them out as it lead to improvement )

Hey great thoughts here! And sure! Change "prospective" to "perspective". As for personality tests, in practice, it is extraordinarily difficult to categorize personalities in a rigid way. However, the categories within the OCEAN assessment, specifically, have some usefulness for such things as (as you mentioned) understanding someone else's perspective and the way they receive communication the best. Overall, it's important to understand that many of these social models are tools that help us to a certain extent - but at the end of the day, we have to make sure we stay grounded and humanize the people we're interacting with.

@@stephenpetro411 ok so it just just here (big 5 test) as mental model for reducing human interaction complexity as we are limiting the variable to 4 rather than 20 or more factors while considering and respecting other people's personality . Do you have to go to school to be logical? You are overestimating the importance of formal education. What matters is education, not necessarily formal education.
@stephenpetro411
Ай бұрын
If by "school" you mean "college," then no - not at all! You can be logical even without a formal education, of course. Critical thinking is a universal skill that everyone can learn, regardless of background. When I was discussing education here, my gripe was not about how you have to go to college, but instead it was about how lots of personal development content is actively anti-formal-education. Everyone's path is different, and it's ok! Regardless of formal or informal education, the point is simply "be educated!"
