Same addiction here, the best way to desexualize our minds is to replace the idea of people as sexual objects, to pure beings who were made in the image of God and who have a purpose in life. Fighting temptation is useless because our flesh is weak, we need to change our mindset by genuinely believing Christ's words and we won't even feel attraction to sin

One day the lightbulb came on and I realized that I wasn't putting any plan into action. I wasn't formulating concrete steps to avoid porn. I bought Covenant Eyes and confided in my wife who graciously agreed to be my accountability. Knowing my wife will see what I look at on line is a huge deterrent. I've lost track of how long it's been since I looked at porn.

If you want to “quit” and just can’t seem to, you need to realize you can’t on your own. You need some divine intervention to help you out of it. So pray for it every day. Every time you catch yourself in temptation, say a prayer to the Holy Spirit. Ask Mary, St. Joesph, and St. Michael to protect and pray for you. Get rid of social media if it’s what causes you to fall into temptation. And for God’s sake, stop looking at women you see out in the world as objects because they are your sisters in Christ, even if they don’t dress like it.

Porn is extremely damaging and addictive. I remember seeing a smoking ad which advised to "never quit quitting." First, I thought it was stupid because if you're gonna quit then do it and move on. It was only once I began quitting porn that I realised the significance of the message. You will want to quit, you will try to quit, but behavioural change takes time. The habit wont die just because you will for it to. It takes time and it helps to understand that if/when you have a lapse.

So many people think that they have to replace with having a partner. Not for me. I’m still single. I replaced it with being obsessed with studying, being proactive, building my desk setup, having a good housekeeping routine, being organized in my room, in my car, being punctual to work, being good at my job, steadily taking classes at my city college and getting good grades, saving my money, being organized with my digital documents, improving on my piano pieces, improving my typing, learning and studying on my Anki. I’ve replaced my alcohol addiction and PMO addiction with all that stuff. The rest of the dating stuff will figure itself out. I’ve become fulfilled in my own routines and projects, and find personal enjoyment in doing those things and living an honest life, a clean life where I have nothing to hide. I’m preparing myself for when I do meet someone. If I never do, I’m okay with that.

How selfish I was in our relationship. How mentally and emotionally damaging it was. How much happier and better I felt in longer bouts of not watching and taking part in it. When I started trying to form a relationship with God, I saw how my actions against his creation hurt him. Through hurting myself. And to understand the fear I should have by not serving the Lord. How it hurts me in this life and will hurt me in eternity

The easy availability is also a big problem. Before high-speed internet porn became a thing, it was just so much harder to get your hands on any content. Like in the early 2000's you couldn't just access it like a regular tube site nowadays. That made it automatically impossible to even get addicted in the first place from a very young age.

Jordan is spot on. What he says applies to all types of addiction. We need to get it out in the open. Not everyone needs to know but we have to have someone to talk to openly when tempted. It's not about the number of days. It's truly one day at a time. There's no set of things that have to be done. Changing people, places, and things covers a lot of ground. Stay the course.

It's true that you have to pray much to get off it, but what's not mentioned is that you also have to cooperate with the graces given through the prayer. It comes down to willingness to suffer. I think the only real way to cooperate, and get off of it completely is to decisively get rid of every avenue you would have to watch it again, and also harness a tremendous amount of courage and strength to resist the urges that will 100% follow for awhile. It needs an act of the will to say "I'd be willing to die, and even be tortured to death than ever watch even the smallest instant of this again......for love of you, Jesus" while really and truly meaning those words. Then, you forcefully avoid it when your appetites erupt again and tell you that you need it (they do eventually subside). You also need to be prepared for the new life you're going to have afterwards without it, and the freedom you're going to have, and the healing you're going to need. Those images are in your imagination and apart from a special grace they're going to stay there even while living a completely chaste life which is one (only one) of the reasons it's so destructive.

It's incredibly sad to see people justify their own addictions in the comments. That's the difference between the content sinner and the repentant sinner. The repentant sinner understands he needs help and pursues remedial avenues. The content sinner either suppresses the shame so that he doesn't have to deal w/ the discomfort within, or he simply lies to himself and perpetuates an ever-growing snowball that'll eventually destroy him and potentially others who are close to him (e.g. family). Pray for everyone who's still lost in the dark. We were not designed to dehumanize others by treating them as sexual objects to gratify our lust. And all you have to do, in my opinion, to realize that truth is by thinking hypothetically about how you would feel, truly feel, if you knew your mom, sister, or god forbid daughter, were involved with porn. Innately, we would all react with revulsion.

Even the Bible says the same “ 2 Timothy 2:22 KJV Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.” You don’t just quit without replacing it with something better. So as one flees lust and all these demonic perversions, you gotta be pursuing righteousness…..”

In the old days it was called masturbation. Now it's called self-pleasuring. Sounds nice and pleasant doesn't it. Hard to find harm in such a harmless sounding behaviour. Oh the cynicism of word smiths and the danger of reordering words so they disguise the danger of certain behaviours.

Actually before "masturbation", the name was "mastupration". "Stupration" is an old synonym of rape. Basically "ma(nu(s)) + stupration" means "rape by hand"

i gave up being an alchoholic and a pill addict and a lot of bad habbits by surrendering to faith and sacrificing all the things holding me back. been a proud regular non addicted person for a year and a half now and i can even go have a couple beers with a friend and its not a trigger. i havent touched pills since the day i quit and i have more discipline and work ethic and i have a better job and even have my own place now. i went through a breakup with a long term fiance and even that didnt trigger me back into addiction. ive been strong and really proud of who God has made me and the strength hes blessed me with. i couldnt do it on my own and the moment i truely surrendered and agreed to sacrifice the things hurting me, my entire life changed and i never turned back.. God can do anything for any of us

I have never been on adult websites before and I plan for it to stay that way. It's rare for someone my age to have never been on those websites but it just feels wrong to go onto them which keeps me away from them.

When you have a kid and realize what it's all actually for, you also realize (especially if you're a guy) that you've not only been wasting your time, but hurting a lot of people I was in that place for way too long so I'm not judging, but I'm telling you from the other side that there's no reason to dwell there. Even from a purely selfish point, looking back I'm like, "why did I waste so much time on deez h0s".
