Stop! Don't Make These! 4 Ingredient Mars Bar Rice Krispies Squares Recipe
Mars Bar Rice Krispies Squares Recipe / Mars Bar Slice Recipe
I'm using Mars Bars, and if you live everywhere other than the USA you can easily get the same Mars Bar that I use... But if you live in the USA The same candy bar is called 'Milky Way' - however the Milky Way sold in the rest of the world is different. If you live in the USA and want to know what the rest of the world call Milky Way, buy a 'Three Musketeers'. Confused? I am too; and I'm not completely sure I got that all correct.
However - what I can tell you is this: These dessert squares are dangerous, make this Chocolate Rice Krispies squares recipe with caution. Of course we call these Mars Bar squares, but the rest of the world probably calls them Mars Bar slice.
Ingredients:
4 Mars Bars
125 mL (½ cup) butter
750 mL (3 cups) Rice Krispies
250 mL (1 cup) chocolate chips, semi-sweet
60 mL (¼ cup) butter
Method:
Melt together the Mars bars and butter stirring to mix thoroughly, then stir in the Rice Krispies coating completely.Transfer to a greased 8x8" baking dish.
Melt together the chocolate and butter for the topping, stirring until smooth, then pour it on top.
Cool in the fridge then cut into pieces and serve.

In the US, we have a chain of big box home decor stores called World Market, that also has a section of imported foodstuffs from around the world. You can usually find real Mars bars there (along with some of the interesting Japanese KitKats). I get tiny little gift-sized jars of Marmite there, too, because I use it up so slowly.

I also once had this prepackaged mushroom ravioli from Europe that was on clearance for 99 cents and was incredibly tasty and is gone forever! LOL! These look like the Mars bar version of one of my favorite candy type things, that I've always known as Snickers squares. Cook up peanut butter, sugar, and golden syrup to a kind of peanut caramel situation, stir in cornflakes, top with melted chocolate. Ridiculously easy, utterly delicious, and, as you say, absolutely evil.

A few years ago I changed the way I eat (went full on ketogenic and kept to it like a monk for several years). Now that I’ve reached my goals and no longer CRAVE sugar with a white hot passion, I can appreciate a rare and “evil” indulgence. This would be high on my “just one, then back in the game” treats (not cheats, ‘cuz life is too short to shame ourselves over simple pleasures). REALLY enjoyed your momentarily stunned into silence reactions❤

Recipe from the 50/60's I think ... just remade it last few weeks!
Great video, this brings back the fondest of memories, as a tiny child making something very similar with my mother with Snickers and Rice Crispies.. and every Easter making "nests" which consisted of mixing Shredded Wheat with chocolate.

One aspect of the candy bar confusion that was not discussed in this video was the fact that the American version of the Mars bar is now available as a Snickers almond
@annalockwood3021

When it became clear the US Mars bar (with almonds, caramel and nougat) was going away, I made a point to save a few. When the Almond Snickers showed up I compared them and found the Almond Snickers entirely too sweet by comparison. (Even more confusing? I'm old enough to remember the older US Mars bar that was two bars of marshmallow with a roasted almond each, enrobed in milk chocolate. Those who remember ? Elmer's candies makes a Heavenly Hash marshmallow/almond candy in both dark and milk chocolates. The almonds aren't always as fresh as they should be, but I sometimes wonder if those are from last year's stock.)

Just made these for tonight. We have an international grocery store not too far from us, and I was lucky to score four Mars bars the other day (six, actually, but two were sacrifices, shall we say). I've been hooked on Mars bars since my business trip to England back around 2000, and I'm looking forward to trying this tonight.
These have been a staple party food since the 90s (for me), not sure how long before then, but I still crave these. So delicious.
I make these for any event that I'm having at home. The recipe came from Australian Weekly magazine and they are amazing. I've also made them for my sister in the States and used Milky Way Bars and they came out great.
Must be pretty good tasting, Glen did his happy dance.
Well I did make these. TWICE! Once with Milky Way Bars and the other with Mounds coconut bars. OMG I never loved Rice Krispies so much. I'm in the US by the way. Love your channel
UK it's a classic as well, usually it's not in bar form but in cupcake cases. I also add halved Malteasers to it to give it extra crunch. We also don't get large bags of chocolate chips for cooking, we just use very large chocolate bars like a massive Dairy Milk and melt that down(its much better chocolate as well).
In Germany, long ago, Drei Musketiere (Three Musketeers) was a longish (about 20cm), chocolate covered, open work braided, chewy caramel stick and Twix was called Raider. Just wishing to add to the confusion.

Awesome decadent recipe. Thanks for sharing! My mother always flattened the mix for rice crisp treats on wax paper. Much easier in my opinion vs a pan.
I am learning things about candy bars today and my life has been forever changed.
It it fascinating to hear about the different brands in the US vs the rest of the world. Here in South Africa we often diverge from the rest of the world in weird ways too! While it is possible to find Mars Bars in SA, we also have a local version called a Bar One, made by Nestlé. It is far more popular and has variations like Bar One ice cream, ice cream sauce, cereal, etc.
I love Glen cuz he love Mars Bar as much as I do. Bro knows the history and the ingredients on all nostalgic products! Bruhhhh!!!

1:51 Glen: confused? Me: I was already confused. I'm American and grew up not just in the US, but in the Middle East too. A lot of candy changed during my time going back and forth between countries in the early 00's, and I'm STILL ticked off that I can't get a mars bar or a bounty. Almond joy really isn't the same, it's too sweet 😭. I actually have a memory of being all excited with my candy stash from Halloween or something, opening the mars bar, and being udderly bewildered because it was so completely different from what I expected. I remember trying to explain it to my older brother and him telling me that they're different things in different countries. I almost wanted to cry, because it was my favorite candy bar at that point. I might still hold a little resentment over US mars bars....
I do them in the microwave all the time, then stir vigorously to blend the butter and mars bars.
In Italy we usually put the mixture in a bundt pan and we rarely glaze it with the chocolate on top, once out of the pan. It's something more than often present at kids' parties.
I'm in my sixties and really don't look at the candy bar section much anymore but I remember getting Milky Way bars here in Toronto. I'm not sure the last time I saw one but I know that we at least did have them at one point in time.
Hi Glen! Just made this after seeing your video. My Local grocery store were out of Mars-bars, so I opted them for a Swedish bar called Japp instead. - Will taste the result in a couple of hours or so. Btw, in Sweden it´s quite common to do a Snickers variety of this, but instead of chocolate bars you use a can of peanutbutter, sirup and castersugar, cornflakes instead of Rice Krispies. The result is very tasty, hard to stop eating.

Mars bars of my childhood in the US were different than the Mars bars you can get at World Market in the US. The old childhood bars were thinner and wider, made of nougat, 4 almonds on top of that then covered in milk chocolate. The Mars bars we can get at World Market and the Snickers Almond has a Carmel layer now. We can't get O-henry bars here any longer but we found them in Canada everywhere.
I make a Scotcharoo. It’s similar but used peanut butter, corn syrup and sugar. Melted butterscotch chips and semi sweet chips.
Ugh, I'm gonna have to make these now
Tray bakes, a staple of coffee mornings, birthday parties and supper stuff at kids camps here in the UK You could honestly do a whole series on them, very often there's no baking involved and the category refers to the inch deep baking tray that the mix is pressed into to set.
in the UK in the late 1970's and 80 these were the things to have! To make they even cheaper replace the butter in the base with Margarine ( Preferably contains partially hydrogenated vegetable oils, animal fats or for that true experience Hydrogenated de-odorized marine oils ) and chocolate flavoured cake covering for the top. For the cake covering think "prepared cheese product" compared to cheese and you have the right idea. I never had a whole mars bar to myself when i was a kid they were bought for this recipe! A mars bar could be used to give a family of 4 a treat!
I grew up with these, called Special K bars. Peanut butter and Rice Krispies or Kellogg's Special K cereal (hence the name), and chocolate chips mixed with butterscotch chips; which are a little less sweet and cut the chocolate, for the topping. We kids learned how to make them ourselves, because Mom usually only made them to take somewhere else.

@Glen, A variation that I grew up with: 1C sugar + 1C Karo corn syrup just brought to a bubbly boil, then taken off the heat and mixed with 1C chunky peanut butter and folded in with 3C Rice Krispies and 3C Special K. Fills a 9x12 pan, topped with melted chocochips. A word of warning, though - one batch is never enough!
