Stomping Grounds - Vinalhaven, ME

Ойын-сауық

This isn’t really a video for just the casual viewer, but I figured some might be interested to see it. This is where I grew up. A small island off the midcoast of Maine. It had been a long time since I’ve been back home and work drew me out there to look at a job for a customer. While there, I decided to stay the night so I had time to visit my old “stomping grounds”. All the places (that still remain) that I spent the entirety of my youth. These roads, these sidewalks, these buildings, these trees and these rocks shaped who I am today. Every corner holds countless memories. There is nowhere on this island I can venture that doesn’t conjure up a pivotal memory of my childhood. I took the time to go back and visit the places I spent the most time as a kid. As a teenager. As a young adult. I spent a day and a half chasing ghosts. Flooding my head with vivid, sometimes fragmented memories. The best of times. The worst of times. The best of moments. The worst of moments. Where I laughed. Where I cried. Where I hurt. Young loves. Lasting friendships. The best conversations I’ve ever had. The spots where I used to sit and work through my thoughts and feelings, alone. Where I used to dream. Where all my passions were born.
I spent countless days staring out over this great big beautiful blue ocean with hopes and dreams that were as big as the ocean itself.
So, to most, this will not be overly interesting to watch. Random streets and places that could be anywhere. But when I watch, I see a life lived. My life. In every frame. A place that somehow manages to simultaneously have changed so much but also remained exactly the same. And I think there may just always be a part of me than can never fully let it go. Home.
“Hey, let’s go for a ride.” (If you know, you get it…and you all know who you are)

Thanks for refreshing our memories, as we're 65 and 68 yrs old now do it's been awhile ago our Dad pastored the Community church. How lucky people are that have gotten to spend their entire lives there!

I was born and brought up in the Rumford/Dixfield Maine area. Moved to Vinalhaven with my late husband who died in 2011. He was only on the island for a very short time, but during that time he grew to love the island. I have remained on Vinalhaven, living here for 13 years now. It is the most beautiful place that I have ever seen. I am very blessed to be able to live and experience what residing on an island is all about. I am fortunate to have right off my living room beautiful views of Carver's Harbor and I'm right on the water. It is complete heaven! I hope to live out my life on this beautiful island called Vinalhaven. The saying "If once you have slept on an island, you'll never be quite the same" is so true.

@@doglady3350 I moved off Vinalhaven when I turned 13 because of family issues and my mom wanted to have me with my biological father Wayne getchell and you know how Vinalhaven is every one getting into each other’s business and folks got to know that where my grammyfly fly used to live across from the church they are not going to be rebuilding it they are turning it into a new flea market place or a nursing facility and the budget cuts didn’t approve it and the person back out and even though I don’t live there anymore I still get the gossip and it was up to the last person choice that lives on the block and by law they do have to obey the dying wishes and the old French men who had 6 daughters had a walk through stairwell so they can visit with each other and it’s the same person who built the true story of extorise of Emily rose in Lewiston Maine where I’m stationed right now and it’s only 5 minutes away from st. Marys hospital and I have watched the zoom meeting on the budget meeting and everyone needs to start thinking about the good times on helping each other out and boy Vinalhaven has changed so much and I used to do everything on Vinalhaven and some of you guys probably remember me I’m dawn swears daughter and half of the time I was over to Grammy flys and Grammy and papa house and aunt Peggy house and I used to live with my Grammy fly and was in charge of her stuff since I was the last one who lived on the block and a lot of people didn’t know that Joe gatto aka Jim Gibbs from Sweester and impractical jokers and golden girls and three stoogies all connected with each other because my nana was on the golden girls and she married the boys grandpas and the very first episode of three stooges was filmed on the charlotte horse field and orrren Timothy swears was very good friends with gene Autry and so they’re history and people should pay more attention and never thought about information about Vinalhaven and I was to busy being bullied and so no one got to hear about the cool information and orren caseload and 3 others cases are combined with each other and it was max Harris aka donnie smith wanna be didn’t even care about his best friend at all and to let everyone know he never went to rehab and it sucks how so many kids have died out there after when everybody keeps following me and it’s the island that really makes it safe by stop being noisy and be there for others in need just like the old armish country folks do for each other and when I hear people say Vinalhaven not safe the ones who left where the ones who turned everything down and that’s not like the town I was raised and it hurt me so much and some of the islands are utube farms now
