He did seem concerned about how much fuel he had, but at every moment the ATC tried to persuade him to prepare for landing he ignored it. I'm guessing his concern about fuel was either because part of him wanted to land, or because he was concerned about how much time he had left to experience everything he wanted before crashing it :(

I think you nailed it. I bet this young man just wanted to be an airline pilot - wear the uniform, and be in-command of air transport class aircraft. He probably just wanted to fly for a living. Watching flights come and go for 3 years, and just wanting to be one of those crew members - so sad. Rest in peace young man.

Matthew Haywood bang on, in the full audio he mentioned that he thought he'd have more time to absorb the beauty of his surroundings and that maybe things would have been different in a different context. I think he had zero intentions of landing it, especially as he knew he'd be going away for a long time if he did.

I was not speaking of potentialities, nor was I speaking of inconveniences, although I do find it novel that you would consider that a form of hurt. I suppose the guy holding me up on the way home today by driving 35 mph in a 50 mph zone "hurt" me then. The air force fighter pilots got some good training in, and i'm quite positive the insurance covered the loss of the aircraft. Insurance companies are notoriously rich, and it is factored into their business plan. Serves them right for thinking they can make tons of money for nothing. Every time an insurance company has to pay out, an angel gets it's wings.

"His wheels are smoking left and right" (see time stamp 1:08) " he's right now rolling down the runway". Those words were reported by another pilot who saw the event. The following is a simple explanation for non-pilots. This probably means Rich had his feet too high up on the rudder pedals and was engaging the airplane's main landing gear's individual brakes as he was trying to keep the airplane straight on the center of the runway. The main landing wheels are the ones under the wings. For anyone who is not a pilot, the rudder pedals on the floor of the cockpit can make the rudder on the back of the tail go left or right. But when the airplane is on the ground, the same rudder pedals also have a mechanical linkage connected to the nosewheel for steering at lower speeds. As the airplane goes faster on takeoff, the more the directional control is shifted from the nosewheel to the rudder on the vertical tail. When a pilot pushes the right rudder pedal to the right, the nose wheel will turn right as well as the rudder control surface on the vertical tail. But the very tippy top of the rudder pedal can also be pushed down like a gas pedal on a car to engage the individual disc brake on the main landing gear. So if you push forward on the bottom of the right rudder pedal, the nose wheel will turn right, as well as the rudder surface on the vertical tail. But if the pilot pushes down on the tippy top of the right rudder pedal on the floor, it will also go down like a car's gas pedal to engage the brake the main landing gear. During takeoff, Rich probably pressed down on the right and left rudder pedals as if he was stepping on gas pedals on a car, causing each main landing gear's brake to lock and skid causing tire smoke while the airplane was taking off. It is kind of like the smoke you make when you jam on your car's brakes to avoid a rear-end fender bender. Yeah, we've all been there before. I've tried to explain this as simply as possible for non-pilots who might be reading this. But this is the most likely reason why the landing gear wheels were smoking while Rich was taking off, as reported by another pilot.

  • @Crafting_Through_Life

    2 жыл бұрын

In my twisted, sad, and lonely brain, when he did that flip/roll/whatever, didn’t stall the plane, pulled back out of it without shredding the plane, and didn’t lose consciousness, I was thinking, “Bruh, you just did one hell of an epic thing for those of us who don’t want to be here but don’t have the balls or heart to take ourselves out because we have kids and family that love us.” That is how, unfortunately things like depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, etc brains look at situations like this. I know what it’s like to be ready to be done with this world and tired of the every day mental beat downs we get from people who just don’t understand it’s not as easy as just, “forcing ourselves out of bed”, let alone doing the basics of survival like getting out of bed to eat/drink/shower. As I have told the few closest to me, “it’s quite literally those of us who have no impulse control like this guy and those of us who have major depression but never utter a single word about suicide, that you really need to pay close attention to and check up on often because typically, it’s the people you would least expect, like this happy go lucky sounding guy, that would act on the impulse/bad thoughts”. So if you know someone who has a mental health history, it doesn’t matter what it is or if they make it appear they are happy, sit down with them, look them in the eyes, and ask them, “how are YOU, really doing?” If at that moment you see tears well up and they try to hide it and say they are fine, that you have your answers and know you need to keep a close eye on them and keep steady but not over bearing/annoying daily contact with them because honestly, nobody else probably does and they truly believe nobody cares whether they are here or not, on a daily basis especially if they can’t be bothered to even send a basic, hi, text to them.

Trank up on so-called meds is a joke. it messes with your thinking or be in a dreamlike zombie state. Half of us have it genetically and the other half from a major PTSD in their lives. Pharmaceuticals have it made by drugging up the population and laughing it up at the bank. This guy was probably fed up with men in suits of his company while he was trying to survive out there. Took it on himself on a dare and went out as a legend. Sounded like a nice guy who I can relate. Hope you found your peace, Rich. Kudos to the ATC and the "Pilot Guy" on his tail. Very glad no one else was killed.

This guy was a suicidal thief, and flew that dash like it was a video game until he crashed it... I never claimed to be a bad ass. I do have training and experience flying aerobatic aircraft, in addition to flying and owning a stol bush plane. My experience in aviation is enough that I can see when someone does a maneuver correctly or incorrectly. This guy, while impressive he lasted as long as he did, did these maneuvers wrong. I remember this it was all rather sad. Like he gave up on ever having a chance on his dreams coming in any other way and just went for broke. I feel really bad for ATC it must have just been so hard to hear. Poor man in the Dash-8, life crushed him. The "American Dream" is NOT achievable by effort alone, you need extreme luck or to be born in good circumstances.

no matter how many times i hear this audio. It puts me in the right seat next to rich looking over the pugent sound with the olympics in view, and the pacific ocean and i feel at peace for a moment. I pray rich felt that. His energy is fuel for me to follow my dreams at all cost, or die.

He flew NOWHERE near Mt. Rainier, his complete flight path aside from 5 right turns, 2 loops and half a barrel roll, took him directly SSW from KSEA towards Dash Point (Federal Way) area/s, continuing SSW towards the Ruston/Tacoma area/s before banking several times to the right between Fox and McNeil islands before attempting a barrel roll near the Chambers Bay golf course and then finally making another right turn before nose diving the Q-400 into the southern part of Ketron Island. Would you care to correct your bullshit statement now?

I must say, as soon as I saw him attempt the aileron roll I expected him to crash but I'm actually really quite impressed in the Dash 8's ability to perform an aileron roll and not lose too much altitude. I never thought it was possible for modern commercial aircraft to perform an aileron roll.

Of course it is, if you have enough speed and altitude. In this case there was no payload and almost zero fuel, very light weight then you can do rolls and loops with large aircraft. Just ignore the warning systems ;)

A pilot from Boeing did a barrel roll with a Boeing 707 during a demonstration flight! Didn't you know that? There is a video here in KZread about it, make your own research on it and look it for yourself! I by myself flew a Fokker 50 in my efforts to become a pilot for jets and I saved it from crashing into a Boeing 727 during a near miss by using my skills what I've learned from old pilots of the WW2! They have learned me to fly the legendary and incredible stuka-maneuver and many other combat maneuvers during air-to-air fights and air-to-ground fights and with this skills it was able for me to use a half of the stuka-maneuver to safe my Fokker 50 with four passengers inside and the Boeing 727 with many people inside! I must say that this guy had a lot of good flying skills to use this aircraft for this aerobatic style flight, wow! The Fokker 50 is looking like this aircraft he flew in Seattle! Lovely greetings from Sarah and have a great and peaceful day and stay safe out there and take care of you ✈️💖✈️💖✈️💖✈️💖✈️💖
