Stoichiometry: Converting Grams to Grams

How many grams of Ca(OH)2 are needed to react with 41.2 g of H3PO4. The equation is
2 H3PO4 + 3 Ca(OH)2 = Ca3(PO4) 2 + 6 H2O.
In this video, we go over how to convert grams of one compound to grams of a completely different compound, and learn how to convert grams to molecules. The more you practice the more you succeed in Chemistry!

How many grams of copper (II) oxide will be formed from the decomposition of 1.4 g of copper (II) hydroxide. Please help Here's the balanced equation I got, Cu(NO3)2 + 2NaOH=Cu(OH)2 + 2NaNO3?

  • @melissamaribel

    Hey Ariel, double check your chemical equation for this question because the first sentence translates to something different. copper (III) hydroxide is heated it decomposes to form black copper (II) oxide and water means Cu(OH)3 = CuO2 + H2O ( Note this is unbalanced)

  • @melissamaribel

    @melissamaribel

    6 жыл бұрын

    Did the question give you a balanced equation? Because you are going to need that. The overall plan is: grams of Zinc to mol Zinc (using the molar mass of Zn) then go from mol of Zn to mol of H2 gas (using the mole to mole ratio) then go to grams of H2 (using the molar mass of H2)

  • @paulvanlieshout369

    @melissamaribel

    I see ok no problem, The potential equation would be something like this Zn + 2HCl = ZnCl2 + H2 This is actually a limiting reactant type of question so we will find how many grams each initial reactant will produce and the one that produces the least is the limiting reactant. 3 Steps: Step 1: Convert grams Zn to mol Zn to mol H2 to grams H2 This gives you some value of grams H2 Step 2: Convert mL of HCl to L HCl to mol HCl ( using 3M as 3 mol/ 1 L) to mol H2 to grams H2 This gives another value of grams H2 Step 3: Looking at steps 1 and 2 which ever value is the smallest grams of H2 is the answer for how many grams of H2 are produced.
