Stigma Thorn review

Review of the Stigma Rotary Thorn as well as specs, the pros and cons as I see them, and as always some general rambling and zero production value! Check out my work with the Thorn and other machines on Instagram @anthonyjenkins_et

Hey man. I appreciate all the work you put in reviewing all these machines! I’d love to see a review of the new Axys Valhalla pen. All the reviews I’ve seen so far seem sponsored. Maybe a comparison video of all the pen style rotaries? Thanks again.

So I just got my stigma thorn and my first impression is very good. It is so small, it's just amazing how small it is. :D I was worried about the cons that you mentioned but the sound is not that loud. I used to have cheyenne thunder and compared to spirit, sure it is loud but in reality it's not by much. It is a little bit louder than thunder though. I have yet to test it in a full day session and see how it feels with vibration because it is noticeable. It should be fine though, it's not an earthquake unlike from some coils. P.s. I used to work with 2cm grip so this one is a bit bigger and with no way to change it though it is very ergonomic so I feel like I could get used to it.

Hi Anthony, first of all, wonderful tattoos and master piece! Few, questions, i made "engraving" tattoo, grapic only with lines and dots and wip(like wip so much!!). i really want to buy a pen witch big grips….but witch one?! :) i use cheyenne since many years, i really appreciate powerful and strong machines like new thunder and so, i'am hesitating beetween lot of them.. which machines too choose, according to you? Sol Nova? Stigma Thorn? Or….Something else?

Thank you for the review! So this would be a good complement to push lines on more elastic skin - stomach/ribs? Mostly working with Rotary Works (UK) cart machine at the moment. Love it, but feeling I would need something with more punch sometimes. Mainly doing linework. Many are into DK but I find them super loud, dubbel the price and hard to get! Maybe this would be something in between? :) Thanks

Roberto Talavera hey! That’s actually a really tough question! I’d probably have to give a slight edge to the Hawkpen, aside from the noise difference the hawkpen is a long proven machine with a robust warranty so it’s safer, in terms of performance they’re quite similar with the hawkpen being a little more comfortable to work with because of the lack of vibration. Both are great machines but if I could only pick one it’d be the hawkpen

Axys Valhalla is amazing mashine, I loved to work with it, but it got broken after few months. It had very common issue, when it randomly has weird sound in motor like there would be some liquid there. I sent it to fix, and it cost me £60 to send it to USA which they didn't want to cover. My coworkers also had same issue with this machine.

It would be nice to know something more about that machine too. Thanks again and all the best for you.

Alex Sánchez thanks for watching man, I probably won’t be doing anything with the spear, I tend to not like machines with adjustable give, they don’t hit hard enough for me and they’re generally slower than their no give counterparts.

How loud would you say this machine is compared to others? would you say its louder (or shakier) than other pen style machines you have seen? I just got one and it seems a little louder than expected. Also noticed the vibration from this one is a little more noticeable than others I have.

@@ivostankovartWell, I would say that I do not care for the "give" but that's something I don't care about in any machine. The vibration and sound on the spear is in my opinion basically the same as the stylist and obviously on the Thorn. I mean they are good machines, they do what their supposed to, but for me there are better choices, but for some more 💰

Ian J Watson I just reread my response, it’s wasn’t meant to be as douchey as it came out I apologize! I was laughing about your “wiggly needle be no good” comment, that shits hilarious! I was in the middle of a tattoo when I replied and I read the rest of it wrong my bad. I did coil for lining and rotary for shading for years too it took me a while to find a fast enough rotary and I preferred regular needles at the time too but once I got used to carts it’s hard to go back. I really like DaVinci cartridges form Bishop, super consistent and nice and stable even at crazy speeds but to be honest very little beats the Cheyenne carts for being basically perfect in every way, I just hate the price of them!
