Xion VS Hawkpen!!

Comparing the FK Irons Spektra Xion and Cheyenne Hawkpen. Which one is worth your money and why?? Pros and cons on both and my final verdict on which is the better machine. As always completely honest and unsponsored with zero production value and moderate incoherent ranting.

I love the Xion for my realism pieces and colour work!! When I first got it I did find it got a bit tired using larger lining groupings and solid fill. Any portrait or colour pieces the Xion is my go to machine. Honestly I have yet to find a machine that can do everything on every part of the body ! For me I'm loving the journey of finding out what works for me...

Darren Tautari dude i know how you feel. I am using the xion as a shader maybe for color blends too. For lining i switched to dan kubin swingliner. I wish i could combine them two. Dk is fantastic cartridge liner. With the xion i couldnt really single pass line good with anything higher that 5-7rl. And even with 5-7rl its simply not as solid and easy as my coils or my dk. I wish there was a machine that could do it all.

Hey thanks for checking it out, I’m usually in the high 10’s + but I tend to run machines at their speed limit so it’s probably not the best choice for everyone. If you’re comfortable with a hawkpen you’d just be buying an expensive paper weight with a Xion, they’re one of those machines that only seem to work out for people that love really slow machines with a soft hit, if you’re used to the speed and snap of Cheyenne it’s been my experience that nothing from FK will ever feel quite right, not saying they’re bad but just like anything else they aren’t a good fit for everyone

juju m hey thanks for watching, the Cheyenne supply is less versatile and since I use a variety of machines I prefer something universal, I also think that there are superior power supplies out there, Critical and Eikon are both great choices. It also does not void the warranty to use another power supply, you’ll still be covered

Awesome review brother 👍 Same happened with me i was lining a polynesian half sleeve with xion and the motor became hot as fu*k even the voltages were around 9.5 to 10. It made me so worried about motor burning. They say the motor is robust and strong but i don’t think it is as my cheyenne thunder and pen never get hot even if i run them at 11volts and it’s been 3 years i have been using these bad boys.

iain it really depends on how fast you like, if you prefer a faster machine (110-120hz or more) stick with a cheyenne, all of their machines are fantastic liners imo, you could also go with an Inkjecta or stigma both quicker options than FK provides. If you have slower hands a Xion will work for you although I never felt anything from FK irons lined well for me, that doesn’t mean that plenty of folks aren’t doing solid linework with them it’s just for my handspeed those machines are always painfully slow. Hope that helps thanks for watching

Manuel Rocha well you’ve already made up your mind then, what’s the point of watching the video?? It’s my opinion that the xion is an inferior machine and in the time since making this and my other video that’s been well established by the fact that they’re constantly having issues, the functionality isn’t anywhere near as good as something like the sol nova the hawkpen or even the new stigma machines. FK delayed the release of the Xion repeatedly because it had major issues and when it finally did release many of the issues were not corrected they just ran out of time. It’s a simple choice of quality and performance, for me the Xion is poor on both categories. But like I said in this and every other video it’s just my opinion it might not be worth much.

Well, at least I'm not the only one that thought the Xion hit like a bitch. Even for black n grey it's slow and pudgy. I was literally going fuckin crazy wondering why sessions were getting significantly longer. Great heals but slow. The weight I actually enjoyed a lot. Coming from a brass flite nano with the Cheyenne grip and sleeve, the xion was significantly lighter but felt right. The specs on the site say the sol nova and the xion are only 20 odd grams apart. If you're correct, I'm going to be bummed. Heavier means less vibration for the most part.

one thing for sure, and i noticed in the comments telling one guy he was wrong about the weight and you were right. but the xion IS NOT 240 grams, I literally just put mine on the scale. 153 grams so unless you got some stainless steel version that 240 grams is 100% wrong, and to me i felt like my hawk pen was slower than my thunder, the hawk pen for me would take an extra 2 volts or more vs my thunder. my xion on 13 would be destroying cartridges. anyways don't take this comment the wrong way I love your reviews. but Xion is 153 grams , forsure. mine anyways ahhaha

z0mb1 a lot of comments to address but for starters nobody’s perfect, I got the incorrect weight off a third party website and didn’t verify it so yeah weight is off, second I’ve tried the new xions they’re just as slow and lacklustre as the original, they run the same as all other fk machines, slow and consistent, for my handspeed and work style they’re just too slow and have a weak it. The last thing that I wanted to mention is yes the nano as well as all inkjecta machines that I’ve used are much faster than anything fk or most other brands have produced to date, they’re arguably faster than anyone would ever need as measured by CPS not volts. I’m sure there’s more you had to say but I can’t remember everything, all of these reviews are my opinion, popular or not, sometimes I’m wrong and obviously what works for me may be a poor choice for another tattooer, but I do know there are very few good tattooers that aren’t sponsored or trying to get sponsors taking the time to be honest about machines and the companies that sell them to us so that’s all I’m trying to do.

Nice video but I have 2 things to say: have you maybe tested the xion with the smaller available stroke? 2.5mm or 1.8 mm stroke whould make the machine also faster within the recommended volt range. And you say the xion is twice the weight of the Cheyenne, it’s heavy for sure but the difference is only about 25g. Cheyenne 130g and xion 153g

  • @anthonyjenkins3335

Patrick Durka I also have 2 things to say: first changing the stoke length of the machine would greatly effect functionality and wouldn’t be workable for the way I tattoo and would not compensate for a slow weak motor. Second, you’re wrong about weight I am not, my numbers are correct. And just for a final thought, I’ve seen your Instagram and it’s clear that you don’t actually tattoo, you don’t appear to have done an apprenticeship and you clearly don’t work in any tattoo shop, I’m continually baffled as to why you feel qualified to comment and put your two cents in on mine an many other channels. If I was barely capable of tattooing as you are I’d be far more concerned with trying to learn the basics than trying to act like you know what you’re talking about on social media.

Philgood Tattoos that’s not a viable solution for all applications and you shouldn’t have to sacrifice a proper stroke length for a faster machine, if you’re running a 2 or 2.5 mm stroke to compensate for a slow machine you have to ask yourself how long your tattoos are going to last in the skin being applied that shallow, can you line correctly at 2mm? Can you pack colour? If you think you can I’d seriously challenge the longevity of your work and be concerned for your clients.
