Stick Vertical Welding Technique !
Ғылым және технология
Learn how to Stick Weld in vertical using Zigzag or Wave bead welding technique! E 7018, 3/32 welding rod.
When welding using the vertical-up movement or also known as the 3F technique, you begin by welding from the bottom and slowly move upwards. 3F means Vertical up weld progression. As you can tell here I'm weaving back and forth count in a zigzag.

That music sounded like Jim Staford, especially the guitar in the song Spiders and snake.
Thanks, always a pleasure watching your work and listening to your advice and tips. How does one get started working for themselves? Any tips? Would you recommend using a good quality multi purpose machine?

Hey Mike, thanks for your comment bud! To answer your questions; start your own business and apply for the jobs as a contractor by hand if you don’t have welding rig. That’s the first step to get your name out there, the rest is up to you and your skills. If they like what you do, they will call you back or recommend you to someone else. As with current economic situation, welding machines are big investments, Multiprocess machines are good for shop environment, but engine driven machines are way to go if you’re bouncing around with your truck. Stick and TIG setup, that’s all you need, you can do piping or construction work.
Good job my friend

Play with amperage and see what works for you, also your travel speed. I showed you how in video you just have to apply. Just play with settings.
does your machine have a hot start feature? i crank mine so i can get seamless tie ins! good vid man

what do you have it set to for your hot start? and what about arc force or dig?
hey mate try pulse stick. you would like it much better
How come a triangular weave isn't required as it is for mig vertical up? I mean why doesn't the weld roll back down?
@X3MTIG
Жыл бұрын
The zigzag technique involves moving the electrode back and forth in a zigzag pattern. Both techniques can be used for vertical welding, but the choice depends on the welder's preference. As for puddle not dropping down, you have to develop the necessary skills and technique to maintain a consistent arc length and travel speed, which helps prevent the electrode from sticking or dropping down.
With more amperage , that should be perfect . But , it's a good job ( from Belgium ) :)

Any tips on how to keep a steady hand?
@X3MTIG

Support hand that you welding with, with your other hand, good thing to practice in the field, unless you got something solid to rest your hand on, but that’s less likely out in the field .

for me going that slow side to side just did not work,for days i tried. and then i said fuck it and did what i gut was telling me so i went alot faster side to side and the result was a solid pass with nice penatration. dont know why dont care, i passed PF
Starts narrow ends up wider at the top. Tie ins are lumpy and you are welding over a fully blended root pass. I would like to see a cut and etch, I reckon there is a fair bit of undercut in that run.
@X3MTIG
2 жыл бұрын
Hey bud, thanks for your comment! I see you got a good eye to judge welds but you have missed two important things, and you are wrong about one! 1. Starts narrow because it was used a different weaving technique 2. There is no root pass as this is a Tee steel beam scrap metal ( but you noticed that, right?) And this is not an open root procedure, as the title description says Zig-Zag wave bead technique. 3. No undercuts from bottom to top ( you can zoom in if you like) So the tie-ins are not important on this scrap metal as the focus is here on the weave bead technique.

By the way good for you and trying to show people a skill which is extremely complex and at it top end complicated beyond most peoples comprehension, it takes decades and decade to learn the craft completely
