I think Jim Capaldi said it best-“pound for pound the greatest musician alive”. I’ve listened to and seen Steve perform in his many ventures since 1968, and his brilliance never fails to shine brightly. Keys, guitar, mandolin, bass, drums and of course his vocals, are always world class. Topped off by being a highly respected song writer, and as Capaldi said…….

Getting pretty old, so forgot who said this, “Steve Winwood can play every instrument, AND he can play them better that everybody in your band”. The consummate musician.

Il est comme les grands musiciens, pas plus
Steve Winwood is a beautiful soul. And his extraordinary talent allows him to express that beautifully, while the brightness of that soul shines through the music. One of the greats!
His fellows on stage seem to be loving this.
How can he write so many different songs that all sound so different from each other and all still sound so fresh and timeless? I guess that’s what it means to be an inspired brilliant musician for the ages. And he’s still killing it.

I listen to this and am flooded with nostalgia. My late teens and early twenties come flooding back. The friends, the laughter, the free spirits, the fun. Bad times? Sure. But the good vastly outweighed the bad. This was the time when real music was created, when the artists were actual artists, when the music was real music, no computers, no auto-tune, no special effects. Just art. And feeling good.

I saw him in Madrid many years ago. I was trying to spot the bass player and I couldn't see it. Then I realized that Steve was playing the bass with one of his legs while playing the keyboard and singing. I couldn't believe it.
I hope to be back in the high life again. Steve Winwood you are so wonderful!
I have tickets for The Doobie Brothers and Steve Winwood looking forward to seeing them

Just heard this guy sing this exact song 16 years before presenting this rendition. Has not skipped a beat.
I'm a mandolinist myself and wanna incorporate it into progressive-style music and steve does it perfectly.
Just to hear that unique and wonderful voice... and the exquisite mandolin... 😊 Happy new year to all Steve Winwood fans across the world. Hope to see some live music in 2022. 💕

One of those rare songs that are a bittersweet reminder of the past but also makes you optimistic about getting older. Steve is such a great musician, that lead mandolin, I mean c'mon.
To hear this guy sing and play almost makes me want to cry, a happy cry.

One of the most talented and versatile musicians, writers, singers ever
stevie is something special allright,, he was singing at age 14 in serious bands. I also see him playing at Claptons cross roads guitar festival, i had no idea he was a guitar giant. It must be in the water in the U.K, we need some here. AND steve doesn,t try to project and stupid image, no stupid hats, no sunglasses indoors, no tattoo,s, silly haircuts. from Australia
This is the best song ever from a man that can play anything I am going to have this played when I go
Please come to Australia again . Thank you for all your music 🎶 . Loved you as a kid growing up in a small country called Fiji . I listened to ‘vacant chair’ a few months ago at the recommendation of a friend. He told me to listen to the lyrics . I did and I wept like I’ve never done listening to a song. Music is powerful in so many ways . 🎶🎶

Steve win wood is a genius the most unique music
Steve Winwood is in my opinion not only the best pop singer of all times, but also the best looking - see only his bright eyes. And he seems not to grow older. In deep respekt, Reinhold Hammers, an old guy from Germany...
This song spoke to me since 1989! Was a healing experience!
Respectfully, Tom Petty should have been opening for Steve Winwood. Steve is a master instrument player and a master of the Hammond organ, mandolin, guitar, piano and any instrument that you can think of. He plays them all. A true musician.

Brilliant Simply Brilliant!!!!
Met both Steve and Jim outside the Riviera Theater, Chicago, 1990s sometime. Great show, their comeback tour.
Optimistic music fits this song of hope
The song featured here, renders a rather deep sense of hope unto the listener . For that it being the first day of the new year this comes all in good time! It brings a sense of calm !!! `Happy New Year' Steve Sir'!
I agree, he is the musicians musician
Such a simply outstanding performance from one of my all-time favourite artists. An absolute gem!
So talented.... Diehard Fan since 70s. Thank you so much for the tunes-
A great musician and performance 🎉
Loved you since back in the '60s!
There are some videos on KZread / Vimeo that are, for whatever reason, not viewed enough. For an absolute musical genius such as Steve Winwood, every performance such as this should be promoted to 'Legendary' status. What is not to love?
What a beautiful song, i just love it, what a great positive piece.
My Aunt went to high school with Will Jennings, the co-writer of this song plus several others. He also co wrote the lyrics to Eric Clayton's Tears in Heavan plus the theme song of the movie Titantic. Will Jennings Chapel Hill high school Tyler Tx.
Steve sounds so great....whether with an orchestra or smaller band like this one. Remarkable voice and talent
One of the few songs that make me emotional in a good way from the first note!
One of my favourite Winwood songs. These lyrics take on another meaning during this pandemic: "I'll be back in the high life again. All the doors I closed one time will open up again."

Not my favorite Winwood song, but this version is something else. Love it! I’m only 23, but this is the music I’m keeping with me for the next 40 years the same way everyone else in the comments is reminiscing upon it
The best mandolin song ever, except for the Rain Song. I've seen you 3 times live now, and once with Eric Clapton, and never have been disappointed. You're one of the best musicians ever. Thanks again, Steve.
Steve Winwood has an incredibly unique tone to his voice.
A favorite of mine! Such a great song! Beautiful mandolin! Thanks! Here's hoping we'll all be back in the high life in the coming year!
Luv him from the 60s till now he still has the same tone in his voice. Keep it up Steve all the best from Singapore.👍
Brings back childhood memories of going for drives with my Dad in his old Ford . Miss you Dad.
Steve îs a legend of rock history,a fabulous keyboard player and also one of the greatest Voice!
An icon, multi instrumentalist, and that classic timbre his voice carries is magic.
Steve's voice hasn't aged a bit .. Seen him in 2017 . His daughter opened up for him , and sang back up when Steve came out .. Mt winery Saratoga
A little glimpse of heaven this is.
Such a wonderful talent, apart from his work and songs with Spencer Davis, he wrote some wonderful songs, When you see a Chance, Valerie, The Finer Things, Higher Love and this one. And of course we mustnt forget, what he did with Traffic, Paper Sun, Here we round the Mulberry Bush and Hole in my Shoe. and again, Blind Faith, with Had to Cry Today, and Cant find my Way Home. A true Master
Goosebumps and a dopamine flood every time I listen to this song. This version is just gorgeous.

This song has inspired so many humane beings-people, me too, to dance & sing-along for decades! Exquisite mandolin, organ keyboard, guitar playing with the fantastic members of the band. I love Steve's bluesy-jazzy-blues music too ~ His music and voice have inspired & uplifted me for decades! Thank you Steve Winwood and may you & your loved ones be Divinely blessed eternally ~ your music certainly reaches the highest levels of the living, expanding fabric of cosmic consciousness! You're so fine, you blow my mind...Keep on truckin' (as they used to say in America the 1970s :-) 😇
Ok so I bought an old stereo amp from a church garage sale $5 (AUD) , just picked up speakers today , $9 and an old cassette component for about $25 , lights work too yay !!! Anyhow , hooked them up today , grabbed my ‘Chronicles ‘ cassette tape . Set it up in the garage and listening to it now on full blast . Valarie gives me goosebumps and takes me somewhere magical in my past . Got me thinking , how incredible it must be to produce a record with some damn incredible songs and to listen to them .
