LYRICS:
Looking out at the road rushing under my wheels
Looking back at the years gone by like so many summer fields
In '65, I was 17 and running up one-on-one
I don't know where I'm running now, I'm just running on
Running on (running on empty)
Running on (running blind)
Running on (running into the sun)
But I'm running behind
Gotta do what you can just to keep your love alive
Trying not to confuse it, with what you do to survive
In '69, I was 21 and I called the road my own
I don't know when that road turned into the road I'm on
Running on (running on empty)
Running on (running blind)
Running on (running into the sun)
But I'm running behind
Everyone I know, everywhere I go
People need some reason to believe
I don't know about anyone, but me
If it takes all night, that'll be all right
If I can get you to smile before I leave
Looking out at the road rushing under my wheels
I don't know how to tell you all just how crazy this life feels
Look around for the friends that I used to turn to to pull me through
Looking into their eyes, I see them running too
Running on (running on empty)
Running on (running blind)
Running on (running into the sun)
But I'm running behind
Honey, you really tempt me
You know the way you look so kind
I'd love to stick around, but I'm running behind
(Running on) You know I don't even know what I'm hoping to find
(Running blind) Running into the sun, but I'm running behind

I will never forget how kind Jackson browne was to me and my sister at a concert in Boston Ma back in 1980. We were trying to get closer to the stage because we couldn't see very well. A bouncer yelled at us and tried to make us leave. The concert hadn't started yet and Jackson told him to leave us alone. He said they are fine, it's ok. Who else would have taken notice of that going on as he was preparing to do a show? Class act.

My father moved from Illinois to Arizona when he was very young. He brought his JB records with him and used to listen to it at his neighbors house who was a receptionist for a doctor’s office, despite being made fun of by other kids his age who were more into Zepplin and who should come in to be seen at the office but JB. The receptionist told Jackson about my dad and Jackson being the kind man he is left two backstage passes for my dad at will-call under his name so he could meet my dad. I don’t know if you’ll ever see this but, he’s never stopped listening Jackson, in fact he posted just a few spots below this without me even realizing it and he passed his love for your music on to me and I passed it on to my son.

Ah, the 70's, magical times full of music, love and hope. I carry fond memories of that warm summer night in 1977 when this song was recorded at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland. We splurged on real seats in the pavilion that night instead of the usual lawn tickets. Little did we know we were about to witness history. As the final notes rang out, we ran like the wind to the Cross Keys Hotel after the show to wait for Jackson's bus. They say you should never meet your hero's, but they don't know Jackson, so warm, real & grounded. We had a nice chat while he signed a few autographs. At first, I just stood there, spellbound, my mind unable to register what my eyes were seeing. With zero thought, my arm levitated out and touched Jackson gently on the back. Yes, thank you Rock Gods, he IS real and standing right here. He glanced back at me, checked his shirt (all was well!) and carried on. I asked if he gave guitar lessons, he said he used to but didn't have time to anymore. I asked for a hug, and got one. I pulled a folded wrinkled flyer I had been given in the parking lot before the show out of my pocket & asked for an autograph, Jackson asked where I got it & if I minded if he opened & read it, said he that in addition to wanting to know what he is signing, he liked to keep informed on what was being handed out at his shows. He folded it back up and signed it. I kept it in my childhood jewelry box for 40 years, one day it just disappeared, gone with the wind, but that's okay, I will always carry memories of that night tucked inside my heart. Thank you JB, for your humanity. You are a kind, talented, beautiful soul. When days grow dark and life gets hard, memories like this remind me that dreams do come true, kindness does exist, rock stars can be hero's. God bless you and yours Jackson Browne. Stay well, know you are loved and keep on running and rocking. 💗💃🏻💗
