The best "speech" was Billy Crystal's eulogy of Mohammed Ali at his funeral.
Back in the days when a President could celebrate the accomplishments of someone else other than himself, especially our artists, our creative minds, and thinkers!

Well, I wouldn't have used "accomplishments" when writing about the person to whom you refer. I think "bragging about his PERCEIVED accomplishments" might have been more accurate.

@@AndrewJens No. It's a very cheap recliner bought for delivery from Amazon. It's probably made in China. It's a super thin imitation of black leather. It's not repairable. I'll probably cover it with a blanket to keep the already growing damage from spreading until I can get a better quality recliner.

@@AndrewJens : Streisand was a very vocal critic of President Bush following 9/11 and has always been involved in 'Leftist Activism'. The joke inferenced that Bush - who was a Streisand fan artistically - couldn't be seen enjoying her music as it would upset his base.

I've seen Paul Simon in concert I think maybe 3 to 4 times and he is absolutely fantastic
I have seen many Steve Martin clips on KZread over the years… the guy always delivers… what a brilliant comedian!!
He knocks it out of the park with he first sentence, and then keeps them coming -- genius!
Classic Comedy! I've watched this 20 times already and always come back for one more time! This is what a genius sounds like!
If I need a good laugh-out-loud complete with tears, I always come back to Steve
never a dull moment with Steve Martin, can play music, act, even dance. His Pennies from heaven movie literally and pleasantly surprised me.

His work in The Jerk, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, L.A. Story and especially Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid has set him as a great actor as well.
Steve Martin's speech shows why he got the Mark Twain prize for comedy. By the way, many people mention Mark Twain, but few have read more than books of his we were forced to read in school. Try reading his LETTERS FROM THE EARTH to see the range of his wit and knowledge. It's online for free.

Not sure why this came into my feed but it's pretty cool. The whole cast of characters looking much younger than they are today. I even saw a younger Burt Bacharach, RIP. Steve Martin is hysterical.
Priceless speech! It is funny, cute and honorable to one of the greatest American composers. I have always enjoyed his music either solo or with art. Heard his songs many times on the radio. Have his greatest hits and Graceland lol. The reactions from the audience shows their love for Steve's speech. Thanks utube

What a terrific tribute! Humor mixed with the usual accolades. I'm glad Paul Simon counts Steve Martin among his friends, such that he could do it, to the huge enjoyment of the audience then, and us now.
Steve Martin's delivery is the best and I never get tired of listening to him, in fact, I just want to slip a slice of baloney in each of my shoes so I feel funny just listening to him!!!! Thank you Steve.

There can be no fire without fuel. That Paul Simon's humorous song should serve as decent cattle fodder enough to inspire and to draw out some of the best comedy lines that a front-runner if not in-fact also a trail blazer of modern day comedy has delivered, is in itself a true testament to the versatile lyrical genius and ability of Paul Simon. Work always speaks for itself, and although there is much said about grace and even if it not be apart from work, not much of it is any good.

I'm not gonna pretend to know the reason for paul and art splitn up but i'm happy for the time they did have together cause they gave us some of themost beutiful songs ever and that my freinds is the straight up truth. No argument, paul is absolutly one of the best ever on his own but still the pair will never be outdone. Just an opinion of s music lover

Many years ago a good friend of mine was teaching school with Paul Simon's father. Every afternoon his father would sit in the teachers' room and kvetch about him. "My son Paul is a very bright guy. I want him to go to law school, he would make a wonderful lawyer. Instead he sits around the house all day playing his guitar and writing songs. I tell him Paul, you're wasting your life."
