Julian’s postseason stats are anything but lacklustre, that’s the main reason for his consideration (although even as a Patriots fan I don’t believe he should get in regardless), but I have always found it bewildering how Sterling Sharpe wasn’t in the hall of fame, it’s up there with Ken Anderson for biggest hall of fame snubs

Sterling's 20 Year eligibility for the Pro-Football Hall of Fame has already expired. His only chance to make the Hall of Fame will be if he is nominated and voted in as a Senior (those players who completed their careers more than 25 years ago). I'm hoping for the best.

In my opinion Sterling is the 2nd best Wide Reciever ever after Jerry Rice in terms of how good he was and what he was capable of doing. He was a different level of player. Like a smarter, more polished, stronger, more techincaly sound version of Terrell Owens with way better hands. A different type of body type at 6'0 218 lbs. Incredible route runner. He was like a better version of T.O. Just did not last as long. Had he stuck there with Favre and not gotten hurt - he is the only Wr I feel could have challenged Jerry Rices records and Packers could have had a dynasty of their own. Certainly would have won at least 2 with Sterling and Favre.

It's an absolute disgrace that he's not in the Hall of Fame. Make it right NFL!

There was a point where it was a legitimate conversation as to whether Sterling Sharpe was as good or better than Jerry Rice when both of them were playing at the same time. Sterling only got to play 6 years but had 65 touchdowns and he only played with Brett for two years. I don't understand how he's not in the Hall, yet.

Calvin Johnson played Nine seasons Sterling Sharpe only played six that's too bad that he got hurt because he probably would have gotten into the Hall of Fame but I don't think he played long enough to make it

And unlike TO, he wasn’t a loose cannon that wore out his welcome in a year and a half. So big and physical. Fast and nimble. Sterling was easily Brett Favre’s best receiver of his career. Sharpe was putting up numbers that made Jerry Rice and Michael Irvin look and stare. Sharpe was the perfect receiver. Could jump and make possession catches, could cut and run like the best, and had an IQ that had him and Favre on the same wavelength. Just imagine what could have happened if Sterling never has his injury. 95 Packers went 11-5, won the NFC Central, beat the reigning champion 49ers in San Francisco, and narrowly lost to the Cowboys in the NFC Championship. If Sharpe is there, they might not have lost that game, could have made the Super Bowl, and won back to back in 95 and 96. And 97 instead of narrowly loosing to Denver, they could have won and become the first 3 peat team ever. Green Bay history is changed forever if Sterling never goes down. No doubt with Sharpe, Favre, Wolf and Holmgren would have an extra ring. It’s such a shame he was injured. I got to see Donald Driver, Antonio Freeman, Greg Jennings, Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb, James Jones and Davante Adams. And yet none of them was even close to as dominant and Sterling Sharpe.

@@etchosts8162 From 1992-1994, Sharpe had more receptions and TDs than both Irvin and Rice. While he didn’t have as many yards as Irvin and Rice, he was just behind. All 3 were fantastic athletes and receivers. I just feel Sharpe was the best and would have had some amazing career stats had it not been for a freak neck injury.

@@ReezyR Ah. Sharpe suffered a nerve injury in the second to last game of the 94 season vs Atlanta. The injury is called a neck “stinger”. He would feel numbness and pins and needles in his limbs and feel a lot of pain. When Sterling’s head was jammed back against the Falcons, this caused Sharpe’s top two vertebrae to loosen which caused the pain. He would have needed corrective surgery to fuse the two vertebrae together which would have been a dangerous procedure, as well as cost him a lot of playing time. So he just decided to look after his health and retired at age 29. It’s tragic. A HOF career cut short. Sadly I’ve seen that happen twice in my lifetime as a Packers fan. First to Sharpe. And then to Nick Collins. It’s for the best that he looked after his health, but it’s disappointing to see what could have been.

Sterling was catching 100 balls when it was unheard of. Rice played in the refined west coast system with Hall of Fame QB’s. Favre won 3 straight MVP’s after Sterling retired. Favre and Sterling were set to break the league in half with the west coast system Mike Holmgren brought from SF. Robert Brooks, Antonio Freeman, and Sterling would’ve been something else.

@@jonmolina948 Honestly, I'm not sure the Packers would've drafted Freeman if Sterling hadn't had to retire. Might be wrong, but even so, Sterling, Brooks, Chmura to throw to, the Packers might've made it to 3 straight SBs.

He did all this while playing injured almost his entire career. Not only did he have the neck issues that ultimately ended his career, he had broken ribs, turf toe, and numerous other injuries. Dude was a beast.

For any football fan who watched during this era, Sterling Sharpe is a Hall of Famer, equal to Gale Sayers for having a short but bright career.

Sterling Sharpe had a more productive career than Sayers, but Sayers is in the HoF, and Sharpe is not. There is no excuse that can justify it. Sharpe didn't miss a game during his 7 yr. career, and started in all of them (112 games). And All Pro 3 times, and a Pro Bowler 5 times. Is he not inducted because he retired when he didn't want to become paralyzed from a neck injury that was caused from playing football?

Obscene that Sterling Sharpe isn't in the Hall of Fame. Give me 5-6 ELITE years like he had from 1989-1994 instead of 12 good years. He produced right on par with the GOAT Jerry Rice for that time frame despite only having Brett Favre for 1/2 that time AND elite Brett Favre only in 1994.

Anyone can be scored against you can and can't win them all. It's not like every time the ball is thrown to you or you take a hand off it's a automatic touchdown sometimes you're lucky and sometimes you're not. He hold records for one of the most storied teams in the NFL and if I was Brett and the rest of the QB he played with I would call the Hall of fame and turn in my jacket which doesn't mean anything anyway and give it to the press publicly for toilet paper

Nah he was playing on borrowed time and it was going to end, the bigger surprise is that it didn't end sooner He could have just as easily aggravated his condition in training camp

I don’t know how anyone can watch this video and argue that he isn’t one of the best receivers they’re ever seen in their life. He has it ALL. Speed, hands, route running, some weird ability to get wide open despite the defense paying extra attention to him, incredible YAC ability, great size and strength and the willingness to go over the middle. He was humble and focused… dude said he wanted to go to Green Bay because there would be fewer distractions. In the 80s. Do you understand how baller that is? if his career hadn’t been cut short we’d be talking about him in the same breath as Rice, Moss, Megatron, and TO.

Like John Madden said, "This guy has speed. And he has power. And he has hands." He was pretty much all you could ask for in a WR.

I remember when he was active - Madden talking about receivers "You got Jerry Rice and Sterling Sharpe at the top of the class, then you got to go a bit to get to the next group". If he hadn't gotten injured, he would have been there for both the Favre GB super bowls, and they probably win the Denver one. They'd be talking about him and Jerry as !a and 1b as the greatest receivers ever. He needs to be in the hall. He deserves it.

I’m a Bear fan. I got to see Sterling twice a year. At his peak, he was arguably the best receiver in the league BEFORE Favre got there. I didn’t think Favre would win the 3 straight MVP’s without Sterling. But if he had Sterling those years, with Robert Brooks and Antonio Freeman, they would’ve broke some records. I still can’t believe Sterling retired. He had the neck injury and caught 3 touchdowns the next week.

I love these highlights. Sterling is a beast. Even though I was not a Packer fan, I always enjoyed watching Sterling and Favre. Excitement!! Only 7 seasons..he is one of the greatest in my book.

I was in the press box at the 1993 Packer-Bear game at Lambeau and I happened to be sitting next to Paul Wiggin, who was then an advance scout for the Vikings. At some point, the Packers faced a third-and-long. Favre threw a sideline pass to Sharpe, who was about 5 yards short of the first down. A safety and cornerback were right there with him, but Sharpe powered through them to get the first down. Wiggin commented, "That's why Sharpe is better than Rice. He can do everything Rice can do, but Rice never would have got that first down."

Unbelievable player, maybe the strongest wideout at the time, just wish he had more years with the Packers

Best WR I've ever seen. No question. Could run every route. One of the best YAC of all time. Great deep threat even without great speed. Amazing hands and strength. And intelligence off the charts. Watching Sterling Sharpe run was like watching poetry in motion.

As a kid at the time, my regret is not recognizing HOW GREAT (even at the time I thought he was right up there with one of the bests) he was. One of the reasons I think all these years ... that GB has been one of my favorite teams (aka #1 or #2)

He made it look easy all business no hoopla no arrogance, played tough and consistent a QB's dream receiver and confidence builder. No doubt as a Viking fan I know he was a maniac.

Just imagine what kind of numbers this guy would have had if he was able to play with Favre for a few more years. This guy absolutely deserves to be in the hall of fame, the only person who could keep up with him in his era is the widely regarded best WR of all time, that's it and that says enough.

The wild thing is his brother's teammate (Terrell Davis) getting in gives him hope. They were both similar in that they had careers cut short by injuries but were top 3 at their position and had an incredibly dominant stretch of a few years. Nobody was gonna top Jerry Rice in the early 90s, but Sterling was pretty close to it.

Man-i was I elementary school (in Detroit, MI) during his prime, and aleven though we did have Herman (who also doesn’t get his due of how how freakishly dominant he was), I’m tellin you man-Sterling Sharpe was a different kind of gamebreaking receiver. He was absolutely FEARED....and for very good reason. This man gave us the BUSINESS, twice a year, rain or shine. You had to see him play to really know; he was on a level all himself. Zero weaknesses in his game. He did EVERYTHING unbelievably great. I still think he was made in a lab that set out to engineer the perfect prototype NFL flanker. And far exceeded what they aimed to accomplish.

Easily one of the greatest WRs I've ever seen play in my lifetime and one of my 3 personal favorite to watch. Still to this day the only Packers jersey I've ever (and will ever) owned, this coming from a diehard Bears fan. He was special in a way that he didn't just excel, he dominated pro football. Don't know why he's not in the Hall yet. #HOFmer
