Not only is top speed what made him so dangerous, it's his longevity at having speed. Being able to have an INT in 19 consecutive seasons, with two of them being at the age of 40 and 41 is wild. Very few people last even half as long as Green does and most lose their speed, yet he always was able to keep up with everyone. It's what made him so good for so long.

The fastest player on the field at any time. I really did love watching him. Blessed to have watched him and Ed Reed play. Two of the best.

Met him in Canton at a breakfast joint, he ordered so much food he offered me a pancake, so I can tell myself I had breakfast with a hall of famer. Also asked him if he was still on tootsie rolls, he said no, oh well.

One thing that strikes me watching this clip is how good his tackling technique is on some of the chase downs. You don’t really see those ‘wrap the feet’ rugby tackles any more in the NFL, but he hit so many of them perfectly. He was just an amazing player. Like Frank Gifford said in his first season “he’s got speed to give away to his friends…”

Darrell Green is like a real life version of what happens when you try to do pass plays against the CPU on All-Madden difficulty in Madden 24

What made him so special was that he was consistent his whole career, always one of the fastest but also one of the best football players to ever play. He had speed but also intelligence to read quarterbacks and also perfect pursuit angles. The 80's and 90's had some great legendary football players. Those decades had the best NFL commentators as well. Now they are very generic just like ESPN.

Darrell green career as db has always been crazy to me not only for him having a interception in a season for almost 2 decades but his ability to keep his athleticism for all those years most dbs are washed like rbs by their late 20s but even being old as hell Darrell green was still able to run guys down

Yeah Im 5'10 so everytime Id watch him cover a 6'3 WR I would just smile! His intelligence was way underrated, he was a great all around football player and the best tackler of all time in my opinion.
