After LT? Maybe you should take another look, measure the explosiveness off the snap, and time the speed to the QB, and then notice that Derrick Thomas only played 11 years, before his tragic accident left him a parapalegic, and then his subsequent death by a blood clot. Had Derrick played another 5 years, he likely would have gone down in history as the alltime sacks leader, and the greatest OLB to ever have played the game. But, like his Daddy, Derrick went out early, so we'll never know. But you can rest assured that Derrick will never bow to LT, or anyone who came before, or who comes after, because we're not likely to see the likes of Derrick Thomas again!! RIP DT.

He got Dave Craig 7 times in a game, and he got Jeff George 6 times in a game against the Raiders. 13 sacks in 2 games, different seasons. But the game against the Raiders was the season opener, and Derrick started the season, game 1, 6 sacks. He was a tenacious beast when going after the QB, and nobody could block him for an entire game, most couldnt handle him for a full set of downs. I grew up watching Deacon Jones, but I'm telling you Derrick Thomas was the best Ive ever seen.

He was like 6-1 190, very lean and muscular with really big muscular long legs. I would say his lower body was disproportionately larger than his upper body. He could fly too. Amazingly in 10th grade he was a great athlete but had never played football before so he did not make the varsity team and played on the JV team. He really wasnt very good at that point. The following year he transferred to another school and did not start on their defense. Senior year he started to blossom.

He’s hit in the end zone Derrick Thomas nails Steve Young in the end zone for two points!! I think he gave Dave Krieg nightmares In the 80s there was Lawrence Taylor in the 90s there was Derrick Thomas he should have gotten that 8th sack no matter what but no one has gotten 7 sacks in a game but him his record will stand the test of time R.I.P. Thomas

My mom, who passed this year, called up the Chiefs in '97. She wasnt expecting much. Just figured "Hey I could ask them for some swag for my son for his birthday." The receptionist who answered was polite and asked how old I was turning (7), and who my favorite player was. She said Derrick Thomas. The woman responded "Ok, hold for me just one second." She said she was confused. "Holding for what?" The next thing she knew a voice came over the speaker "Hey this is Derrick Thomas" and she nearly dropped the phone. They exchanged pleasantries/ sports talk and planned on letting me talk to my favorite player. My mom came down the stairs, and said someone was on the phone for me. I thought it was one of my friends, and I was busy playing video games. She kept politely insisting, but I barked about playing. Finally "Boy answer the @$^#ing phone!" got me to stop and pick up the phone. When I heard him say his name I couldn't believe it, why would he be talking to ME? We talked about the season, and I was bummed we lost to the Dolphins the day before. He said after the bye they'd whup San Diego and he was right..31-3. A week or so later I got the swag my mom initially called for, stickers, magnets, all sorts of cool little things from the team. But underneath it all in the box was an autograph from DT, to me, which I've kept to this day. It's impossible for me to forget that guy, he made me a fan of KC back in the day. And my mom really went and tried to make my birthday special. So whenever I think of 58, I'll always remember that time and how great humans can be. Miss you mom, thanks for giving your kid the chance to chat with his childhood hero.

Great story man, made me feel great for you, and validate my belief that Derrick Thomas was not only one of the best to ever play the game, but was one of the great men of the game, who gave freely of himself, to those who he felt he could help in some small way, never asking for anything back, except for a flyover Arrowhead, to honor his Dad, a tradition that still goes on today.

Hell, DT already is. Come on, what he did in an 11 year career, they make movies about players like him, sing war songs, and dirges at their wakes. DT is a legend, and you wont find a QB from the 90s who wont agree!

It was a sad day when Thomas passed , guy was a relentless machine at times. I remember the game he had against the Raiders where him and Neil Smith spent the entire game destroying the team. In total they had like 10-11 sacks , Thomas had 7. It was like every snap he was in backfield chasing one of Raiders QB's around. If he had lived he would have been a coach. His drive would have had guys kill for him on the field I'm sure.

Every time the opposing offense had the ball, you were just waiting for the defense to sack, intercept, or cause a fumble. It was like when the Chiefs were on defense, they were really on offense.
