    I have a left-handed sub ray 4, the same model but with the old logo. The bass sounded distorted and it was practically impossible to get a decent EQ. I installed a Seymour Duncan SMB4DS combination, with the ceramic pickup. The improvement is amazing, it sounds like another instrument. Greetings from Chile.

    I’ve just finished putting together a Frankenstein’s monster that’s an OLP Stingray body and a G&L L1000 Tribute neck. I had to alter the neck pocket for the neck to fit, then drilled/routed a battery box and slapped an EMG MMCS in it. Sounds pretty cool and would make a great fretless I think

    I have a Sterling Sub 5, I substituted the original pick with a Norstrand Musician, my preamp is an Aguilar, substituted my bridge with an 18mm string spacing plus move the bridge back 3/4 of an inch, added series, parallel and single coil toggle switch.

  • @anond2015

    @anond2015

    Isn't moving the bridge back gonna change the scale length, thus putting the frets at the wrong locations? Maybe not noticeable but technically wrong.

    Good idea adding the Series parallel and single coil!! I personally would have left the bridge at the same spot tho like the comment about said

    I did just the same pickup replace on my own black/maple sub Ray4, and swapped out the cheap "cast" bridge saddles with proper brass barrels. Now among the best sounding stingray that I've heard. And it's not just the pickup. I played her unplugged most the time prior to this Aguilar upgrade solely because it is one of the most resonant bass that I've ever held. Rivals my neck-thru 4-string, in that regard. Thanks for showcasing this now great instrument.

    And it is awesome how happy you were at the end of this video. On a related note, Lobster's vids actually inspired me to get and so mod the ray4, again among my favorite basses. That was a year ago, so fantastic to now discover your short series.

    I'm about to get one of the blue stained SUBS like i had before but like a dummy I got rid of it, when I get it I'm going to start with a pick up swap probably this same Aguilar. I was thinking about swapping the bridge but the only one's I've seen are like $160 but if I can swap out the barrels instead that would work for me, where did you get the barrels from?

  • @justinkline1294

    @justinkline1294

    @@1thess523 Sure, I just bought the Ray 24 bridge off eBay, and it didn't fit as a direct replacement. So I just swapped out the saddles and their long screws (which fit through the Ray4 bridge existing holes). I think the larger bridge plate and bridge loaded strings really contributes to the resonance. So I now wouldn't swap it for one of the $160.00 you mention.

Really enjoy you and your content. Sick bass, thoroughly enjoyed watching/hearing you play. Would love to see a metal video and your approach to metal. I’m still very beginner skills wise.
