Lyrics:
I must admit I felt the flame
Kurt Cobain, a Fender Mustang
MTV brought me up
"This is your brain on drugs”
I won’t forget that first girlfriend
That got me into Boy II Men
I grew up a lot that year
My sweatshirt said, “No Fear”…ha
My life was a stereo and it was everything
First one in line for the Last Dance With Mary Jane
Hiding in my headphones, laying on the bedroom floor
1994
Tell mom, “see ya later, don’t be blowin’ up my pager
When the show’s over I’ll come home
When that is, I don’t know…”
Teen spirit in the air before we all owned cellphones
Study hall passing notes, yes, no or I don’t care
When my life was a stereo and it was everything
Soundtrack, first kiss out at the roller rink
Hands held, two hearts falling on a hardwood floor
1994
1994
Think you know it all when you don’t know any better
Tell yourself you’re gonna live forever
Fire’s burning and I’m still holding the torch from 1994
A year to be, hey...a year to be young
A year to be, hey...a year to be young
A year to be, hey...a year to be young
My life was a stereo and it was everything
Soundtrack takes me back through all those memories
Hiding in my headphones, laying on the bedroom floor
It takes me back to the days when a song was worth so much more

In 1994 I was 13. This song gave me a walk down memory lane hard. By 2004 I was 23 in Iraq. Now in 2024 I’m a 43 year old- old man. That 30 years went fast.

I finished high school in 1995, and the nostalgia this song brings is amazing. The mid 90s were truly the last awesome years of being young. There was something about going out with friends and being completely untethered from anything else. You could truly just be in those moments. No emails, no cell phones, no social media. I count myself blessed to have been a teenager in those years. Great song. 👍🏼

1994!! The year I graduated high school and left to serve my country in the NAVY. It is probably the best life decision I made as an 18 year old that could have traveled down the wrong road, especially without that decision. I think many were/still are shocked at where l've been, what l've experienced, and who l've become. To those that said I'd be nothing but trouble, Thank you. To those that cheered me on, THANK YOU! I truly don't think my parents knew how l'd turnout. They left it totally up to me. As a 48 year old man, I can say l've been blessed after all the life experiences I've had, especially being a father.❤

I have been listening to this non stop for awhile. My son sings it around the house. Maybe some day he will remember the current year through a song where his son sings about 2024 around the house. This one gives me chicken skin. Boys 2 men. No Fear. It feels like the dude is singing about my life back then. That is what makes music great. It connects you to a person, place, or time.

I was 14 in 94 can relate to the accuracy of this song, loved that lil nostalgic brief intro
Ok. The song hits hard. Grad '97. Lived my life on my bedroom floor with big cabinet speakers on either side of my head, liner notes in my hand... That's cool and all but can we talk about that guitar tone? DANG.
WOW, that voice is so powerful 😮 GREAT SONG, god I miss the 90’s

"It takes me back through the days when a song was worth so much more" couldnt be more accurate
Brings me to tears man, sometimes I forget how good our lives were
This song means so much me. I graduated in 93… the mystical sounds of this song resonate through my core!
I was 10th Grade in 94....this sound means so much to me.
I was a junior in high school in 1994. This song hit so hard it physically knocked the tears out of me. A grown man crying, flooded with memories of being young in one of the best times to be alive. Who knew. I miss that time so bad. What I would give to go back when life was about great music, first loves, and having fun. Maybe not always the easiest times for me but some of the best memories.
Senior in high school in 94. Great times.
The tone of the distorted acoustic and his voice is almost a religious experience.. amazing
I mean this as the best compliment. If Chris Cornell would have sang country, this is similar to what I think it would have sounded like. I love your guitar playing and song writing. Truly unique and incredible. You have gained a huge fan my friend. Please continue to write, play and sing more! This whole album is absolutely worth a listen over and over again. Killer dude! Keep it up.
Born in 83 here as well. But I'm from Finland. Stone cold Scandinavia. We lived on Grunge and we grew up on everything this song refers to. I hate nostalgia but this brought tears to my eyes. I'll do my best to make sure all the Finns hear this. It's a masterpiece!

Man your voice is rich I love that song man I'm 45 years old can you take me back to 1994 it was a year to be young thank you Stephen!!!
Great Energy, Powerful, Perfect lyrics, Instantly sucked in.
I’m 52 and I was graduated in 1990 . I remember when songs meant so much more . When we use to wait for album releases and we knew 0 about how it was gonna sound because there was no social media . I remember a large group of friend gathering in a parking lot and listening to an album and just hanging out and having a blast . The 90s were different and the very last of the good times when you didn’t have to worry about you whole life being documented for the world to see . This guy gets it and he captured my whole generation in one song . This song means so much more to us than you will ever know thanks you for you contribution to my playlist .
So on the money. I can feel the 90s like it was yesterday through this song.
1994 first born daughter was 2......54 year OG now and man that tune puts a fire in my belly! Good stuff!
Weird day to hear this. Great song tearing up at work.
This song hits. You can feel him putting his soul into it!!Hoping the best for this guy!!
I was 21/22 in '94... this made me smile at your gig in Belfast last night - I was there with my 22 year old son. Great gig!!! Class act!!!

Why have I never heard this song?! Wow! This had me spilling all kinds of emotions. ❤ Awesome!
“….Hidin in my headphones on a bedroom floor… “ yep. That took me out. Absolutely beautiful from start to finish.
I’m not the type of person who posts comments I my mind own. The beginning acoustics had my ears perked up and by the end of it all I was an emotional mess. Love the Nirvana riffs in the intro and outro. This song gets you in the feels for sure.I need this version on Spotify please make it happen 😂

Best shit I’ve heard in more than a decade
The album and acoustic album version are great but I need THIS version to download!
This song is so much better stripped down like this solid gold brother
His music hits you like a freight train … every note … every word … He’s that memory you have of you riding down a hwy, looking out a window wondering if you’ll recall this exact moment in the future … he’s our Bob Seger ‘Like A Rock’ Moment reminding us of who and what we were … and still are : Gen X
This song is amazing. I graduated in 1994. You’ve captured so many memories and in a tone that is reminiscent of our music then. I saw a 20 second clip on IG 20 min ago. I’ve promptly found the song and collected it on Pandora, watched the video twice, and shared to Facebook. Keep it up, this is gold. 😍
An absolutely amazing song. Captured a lot of emotions from my childhood. Thank you

You nailed it brother, got me in my feels, was 19 in 94, life was amazing the music was epic and we were all glued to the radio for the next new drop, I had singles of all you refs LOL
Definitely what we were doing in 1994 exelent song to remember some of the best times In our lives
Latest IG post came up in my feed and brought me here! My whole day went sideways, I cant stop listening. Pre-ordered the LP, told all my friends and hoping for more FL tour dates✌🏻
the man can write lyrics and music like no other, his original sound, his passion in his live performances, the story... Its the complete package man, I turned super fan in literally a weeks time
The honesty brother, is in the skin and the voce of this man, my hat is in the Air for you sr👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👊👊👊👊👊👊👊👊👊
The 90s was my prime time , middle school, high school and everything you sing about .....I love this song
These acoustics are crazy good. Now you've got another album!
Real, raw, rare, talent.
Wow man, what a song, how music should be, touching your soul , nostalgic and just letting you smile
I was graduating high-school and having so much fun, I would go back to those times in a second
So great. Graduated in the late 90s. You could see the next generation was different starting in 95-96ish.
Your songwriting is always on point, and your voice carries your message very well. Kudos to you sir 🙌
❤ this song. 1994 was an amazing year for me. I turned 13. Life was a stereo. No Fear was the vibe. Super blessed to be alive in 94.
🤚Who else is here because you heard him on Stephen Colbert. I would have never heard this song if it wasn't for that show. I've been going through his songs and find them so relatable. I'm a black lady from Detroit and hip-hop is usually my wheelhouse but this dude is country and he's speaking to me more than any rap songs I've heard in a decade. Yeah I'm buying all these songs.
Probably the 5th time I've watched this. Tremendous.
Amazing song, incredible performance. The guitar line gives a little bit of All Apologies, and a little bit of 1979. Love this.
Wow it’s been some years since a song knocked me that way ❤
Was 14 in 94..song hits home..lol..put a nostalgic smile on my face..great song man.
This song 😮 as someone who hates mainstream music and searches for that one song that my soul feels… well this morning stumbled across this one 🙏 my 15 year old who is currently teaching herself how to play the guitar heard it on the way to school mind you most of the time I skip through thousands of songs searching for that one song and listen to it over and over till I find the next … drives my family nuts, but this morning my 15 year old did not ask me once to skip it which she normally does after about the 3rd-10th time in a row listening to it 😂 this morning you inspired her to learn the chords to this song 😊
You absolutely deserve all the accolades that you are currently receiving. You are on my Spotify on repeat constantly. The intensity and the control that you sing this song with absolutely blows me away. I just can not stop listening to this to this song over and over and over again. It's like I'm back in 1994. (I was born in 1977). Thank you for this. This is something really special, and I thank you for it with all my heart. Long live 1994.
Love this ❤ such memories. I use to go roller skating every Friday night in Jr high..The 90 s were great and the 80s too .The music was better.
Man. I got all teary eyed. I was 12 in 1994. Amazing song. Thank you.
1994 I was 16 years old soft more high school, drove a 76 datsun, varsity cross country, ice hockey, street hockey every day, drinking & smoking weed at night, lsd , mushrooms, pharmaceutical mdma on weekends, as a virgin. Working at Little Cesars that was in a Kmart & smoking herb with friends in the freezer & taking the cashier balance of the til home. Life was good but it was in my own Heart Shaped Box🔥👽🔥
When a song can bring you back to a certain time in life you know it’s a great song!
I was 13. Play this one at my funeral.
THE BEST SONG EVER RECORDED
This is the best thing I’ve heard since 1994. Well done sir 👏
Amazing song, love the acoustic. Hits heavy 🔥
Born in '87, graduating class of '06, so while im not part of this gen x nostalgia, per se, I still feel close enough to it relative to the generation that came up under me that I find it that I find it super relatable. Hits hard.
Didn't know I needed a trip down memory row. But.. here it is. I haven't thought of these memories in years. And DAMN! SUCH WONDERFUL TIMES AND MEMORIES.
