I've been his fan for years and honestly never knew he had to go through such a tragedy. much respect for him and for his mother to help keep him on such a strong path!

It's crazy how he totally changes when he talks about his mother. That's awesome.

He is such a sweet man. He realized that there was no hope for having an interesting and witty conversation with that group, so he dropped his normal act, and proceeded to calmly and politely respond to their shallow questions. I can't imagine dealing with these situations with as much grace and class.

That just goes to show how "it takes all different kinds of opinions to make a world." I, for example, happen to consider Stephen Colbert to be an insufferably obnoxious smart ass, who's not very funny at all. In fact, off the top of my head, I'd say I think the ONLY "positive" thing [relatively speaking : ) ] I can say about Stephen Colbert is that I probably consider Seth Meyers to be at least somewhat worse.

I love the smile that comes over Stephen's face when he begins to talk about his mother. So sweet. May she rest in peace.

One more reason to love him- the sweet expression on his face when he talks about his mother.

Steven Colbert very gracefully handles this interview (if that is what happened on the view). He truly pays homage to his mother and the entire Colbert family in his actions, response, and the way he conducts his himself in this clip. That is the real content here. Massive respect for him as an individual, the filter he has presented through mainstream media to separate the intellectually absent from the perceptive in everyday life pretty much, and the accomplishments he has achieved in his professional career.

The way he instantly drops the character and smiles at the mention of his mother is incredible beyond words.

She may well have asked him behand if she could bring it up. Some of these programmes aren't actually completely impromptu, there is an agree of roughly what they will chat about beforehand so they can all prepare.

He was playing his character from the Colbert Report and that's why everyone is so shocked by him.

His mom is truly amazing. My grandmother lost a husband and 3 of her children as well. Not all at once but She raised 9 kids alone.

I can't stand those women on those couch. I can't believe that in a country in America there is a huge section of population that act and talk like those women, it's mind blowing. I never been there but I'm just amazed.

It's not all like this, we swear. Granted there are women like this (I'm from the South (the yee-haw land) and we always say "there's at least one person like that everywhere you go except home"), but they don't roam the plains looking for people to annoy or anything. Wow, you might be right. All I know is, I will sleep more peacefully tonight, knowing that "With great power comes great responsibility" ( And I hear this quote repeated all the time, and never do they give credit to Stan Lee, who coined the phrase,) and Steven Colbert may have some serious cool armor. I occasionally take a peek at the View because it's a good map that shows where we're at in our journey to societal collapse.

Idk whether to dislike the video for the title, or like it for Stephen Colbert's spot on and hilarious comments. His mom is a badass if he tight tongue tells the entire story! Congrats Stephen for being a small light in a darkening world

He was still "in character" back then. I have to say the real Colbert we get on the Late Show is much better.

He tears up when he talks about his Mom.

wow the last few seconds of that were heartbreaking.

We don't understand his jokes, so we better bring up something tragic so he drops the character.

He's humerous with class...anyone who can show their love (of his mother, here) in their eyes...has a soul...a old enlightened soul....I admire him and like him so much more than I already did.
