The problem with reading a book is that you have to set down your phone for longer than 5 minutes at a time. I take a book with me everywhere I go (because I hate waiting) and the biggest comment I get is, "I'd love to start reading more; I just can't find the time." It'd be interesting to see how much time they spend staring at screens every day.

It's that new-fangled ROM that never suffers from bit-rot. Not bad tech, but it'd be nice to make 'em re-programmable. I tried to convert one to an E-PROM once and got "The Adventures of Sherlock Finn" by Sir Arthur Conan Twain.
In all seriousness, War & Peace is a page-turner after you get through the first party scene that tries to introduce all the characters.
@EmpyreanLightASMR
Ай бұрын
There's a party scene at the opening of Dumas's La Dame de Monsoreau ("Chicot the Jester" in the US) and it probably was nowhere near like Tolstoy, but it still helped to watch a miniseries production of it to keep track of all the people haha
@thexalon
Ай бұрын
@@EmpyreanLightASMR If I recall correctly, the opening party scene in War & Peace is about 50 pages, so it's a bit more of a slog, helped along though by the fact that there is at least some intrigue going on. But if you can put up with that and get as far as the Battle of Borodino, you'll be able to finish it, no problem.
In 2005 I met my wife at the bus stop (we were in graduate school) where we were both reading and I naturally asked her about what she was reading. Been married for 15 of those years. Someone’s interpretation of a book can tell you a lot about them.

I used to read at least 2 3 books a day. Then the smart phone came out. I hated it at first ... still do but it got addictive... the screens are the issue. Though this is great seeing the youth enjoying reading in this technological age we live in.
