I never thought Arkansas could be any more redneck and backwards, but there you go, they voted in likely the biggest idiot to ever hold the title of being an idiot.

As a Coloradan, Bennett's best quality is how I regularly forget he exists. I'm in Boebert's district, so you can imagine what a nice change it is to have a public servant who isn't in the police blotters.

All those R losses are great... If only we didn't have to hear about how they were 'cheated' every single day for the foreseeable future.

Not so much R losses, but that sane people voted to avoid insane people; but I get what ya mean. I still find it gutting that people looked at Herschel Walker and their first two thoughts were not either stronger reading and comprehension programs in k-12 or the need for a robust concussion protocol in football. Dunno where it will land, but its depressing that at least 2 million people in Georgia are apparently stupid to a level that makes me wish natural selection had more of a say these days.

I'm in England and my neighbour is a Texan. She told me her mom likes Trump and that she has a constant battle trying to educate her on truth. She also says Texans are the dumbest people you'll likely ever meet in the US!

We voted to legalize marijuana in 2020, but the police sued to keep it illegal and the supreme court agreed with them. And on a much cheerier note, we're where Sue the T-rex was recovered. I'm a transplant in this awful state, but I don't deny that I live here. It's insane.

Glad I don't live in Arkansas anymore! For years I lived in an apartment across the street from the Governor's Mansion, and the nonprofit where I worked often had events at the Governor's Mansion. I'd hate to have to see Sanders, and worse, to have to hear her. (Shudder!)

I recently read research on the optimum frequency of elections. It doesn't give a simple figure, as it depends on local conditions, but it noted overly frequent elections contribute to polarization. In the US, there's the additional problem the races are very long, because first you have to beat out other party members. Here in the UK, they don't do that in the same slow way. Our entire general election campaign is a few weeks.

Elections are yearly. House terms are two years. Senate is 6. President is 4. We just had a census and some states require redrawing of district lines, this redrawing also forces elections. I'd rather more voting than less. Wouldn't want to end up like the UK, stuck with rotating tory PMs.

Not to belabor the point, but a gerrymandered map would not affect a statewide election. The gerrymandered districts "map" only affects elections for House of Representatives and state legislature seats. DeSantis (and Rubio - another statewide election) won because more people statewide voted for them. FL is a hopelessly Red state now.
