Polamalu rolled on that ground three or four times with the ball firmly controlled, and fumbles but picks the ball up, and it's an incomplete pass. I have seen countless games where a defensive player rolled once, dropping the ball, and refs call it an interception. lol! The refs in that playoff game did their best to see the Steelers lose, but the Steelers had other ambitions.

@@roberthanief3408 I can never get over calling them Indianapolis. I mean if they still were the Baltimore Colts, they would be in the AFC north division. Ravens should be in south, and Indianapolis should be in AFC north. Your lifetime must not include 1995, and the loss to the Steelers in the epic failed Hail Mary game with Harbaugh. Better yet, the 3rd Super Bowl guarantee prediction by Namath is crushing to most Colt fans. But there are a lot of bright spots as well. Colts have won a few Super Bowls as Baltimore, and Indianapolis. That will always dull the pain. The fumble by Bettis was your second gift. Steelers only gifts were the tackle by #7 saving a TD, and the missed FG at the end. You see Bettis wiping his brow after that, and with good reason! Steelers vs Colts playoff games have been nothing but epic. Except the blowout game in the 70s.

What makes it a terrible call isnt the fact that it was a clear interception (because it really wasnt that clear). What makes it terrible is that you need irrefutable evidence to reverse a call. I dont see how this was irrefutable at all. I think this is one of those scenarios where it wasnt necessarily clear either way, so you have to stick with the original call on the field. If it had been originally called incomplete, then it shouldve remained incomplete. However, it was originally called an interception, so I think it shouldve remained an interception. Really could've been called either way and wasnt very clear, so idk why they overturned it.

I know right, "He lost possession while getting off the ground" so it would've been a pick if he'd have just stayed down and not tried to stand up with the ball? Then that's called a FUMBLE... by the refs explanation, polamalu caught it, rolled around WITH possession, then FUMBLED it while getting back up and recovered his own fumble: steelers ball

Took Ben three times to get everything down. In 2004, he played great in the regular season but melted down in the playoffs. In 2005 he played great in the playoffs but melted down in the Super Bowl. The next time he got to the Super Bowl he was fine. Just needed a chance to adjust to the higher pressure.

Actually the game should have never gone to a FG Polamalu's interception that was overturne at 5 minutes to go, should have sealed the game. Instead it was taken away by a horrible ruling.

"Peyton was the Glory child" You have no memory whatsoever of 2005. BETTIS from week 1 was given the "Can he win it all" hype ever since Hines Ward cried for him in 2004 Patriot playoff Blowout. NFL Films and every show was pushing Bettis deserves a ring; nobody was pushing the 'Manning deserves it' story in 2005. Before America sickened of it in 2007; Brady and The Patriots were given worshipful media praise from 2001 scrappy underdog Blue Collar Team first 'Patriot Way' blah blah blah. Manning wasn't given that until the Broncos years and the Comeback Storyline.

Overturning Polamalu's interception with the Steelers up 21-10 and 5 minutes left was the NFL's attempt to get Manning a SB and he still blew it.

Without the bad call on the Polamalu interception and the Bettis fumble there is no FG attempt. 4th Quarter drive where the Colts run 4 plays for -16 yards. That sure is clutch. 2nd and 2 at the Steeler 28 - need a few yards to make it a gimme FG. Instead manning tries to be the hero and throws it for the end zone where it is almost ANOTHER interception. 3rd and 2 - still needing only a few yards - Manning severely underthrows Wayne - Pitt drops another pick. Choke city.

Once again, you change the subject. Your comment was about what happened after the interception and I replied that the Colts scored 8 points and should'be been 11 if the kicker does not miss an easy FG. 11 points in 5 minutes seem pretty good to me. But then you want to talk about the rest of the game. Yes, he did not play well. The Steelers had a great D. If you didn't know they were the champions that year. If the kicker make the FG, the momentum would have shifted completed and the Colts would have a great chance to win the game in OT. Everybody would call his performance clutch. He was 6-9 with 85 yards after the Polamalu pick. He also threw a perfect pass in the 2 point conversion from the 7 yard line because there was a false start from the OL. But you focus on the sacks and a bad throw. If a 46 yard FG in a dome is not gimme for "the most accurate kicker in the history of the NFL", then what's a 45 yard FG in a blizzard? It's the greatest FG of all time. You do realize that if Vinatieri misses that kick, Brady is one and done in his 1st playoffs appearance. And let's not forget the FG againts the Rams in SB. On the other side, it was the 2nd FG missed by Vanderjagt in the playoffs. He also missed againt Miami in OT. 2 one and dones for Manning.

Seriously, are you really that incoherent? You just criticized Manning for not playing well in 3 quarters against the Steelers and ignoring the monster 4th that he had. But Brady threw for less than 100 yards in more than 58 minutes against the Rams and you want to focus on the last drive. Manning had the double yards that Brady had. DOUBLE. Manning lost the game because his kicker missed a 46-yard FG. Brady won the game because his kicker made a 48-yard FG. But by your logic, Brady was clutch against the Rams and Manning choked. It makes no sense. None. Yes, I want to talk about Brady first title. He got hurt in the 1st half in AFC champ. game on the road against a 14-2 team and the Patriots still won. Still can't believe they stole that INT from Troy, one of the worst calls in NFL history. Ben saving Bettis' fumble is epic, almost a terrible end to an amazing career, might have been enough to keep him out of the HoF despite being top 10 all time.

@forgiato Telly Nah, you might be able to say he never burned as bright as some on the short term, but better bright and for ages than blinding for a moment. One of the most consistent RB careers of all time, only slipping, of course, near the end. And literally finished 6th all time, 1,000 yards in 8 of his first 9 seasons, you can count on one hand the amount of players with more 1,000 yard seasons. And until his last years, when Ben emerged, that was with stacked boxes with him being the focal point.

It does feel like yesterday! I’ll never forget that season & the run they went on. Especially to beat a very good Cincinnati team and a Indianapolis team that likely was the league’s best. The Steelers just weren’t gonna be denied for Jerome. So much fun to see a team come together and play at their best!

Not enough people recognizing the amazing play rookie CB Bryant McFadden made at 1:49:30 Amazing individual effort to break up that pass to Reggie Wayne. If you watch him walk back to the huddle on defense right after that you can tell he felt the weight of that moment.

You guys watch the same game?? I didn’t notice that bad at all. Even with Troy’s int called back they were both on the Steelers side. Then all game they were saying how great a game the Steelers defense was playing and being called by the DC. They are supposed to sound excited when things happen but it was definitely both ways lol. I’m a cowboys fan and these guys basically always call it the same.

You take a former Washington, or Eagles player calling a Cowboys, Eagles game, or Commanders Vs Cowboys, and who will he be rooting for? Certainly not Dallas. He is not programmed to do so. They are suppose to be impartial, but that is impossible, since their competitive days of playing. Boomer, and Cowher are always ribbing each other. That rivalry is still in the back of their minds. You simply can't let Collinsworth call a Steelers, Bengals game, because his allegiance will be for Cincy. Maybe if the game was in Cincinnati, but not Pittsburgh. They would hit him with about a dozen snowballs. And I am not kidding!

On the contrary, I’ve listened to Aikman call games for years and all I ever hear from Cowboys fans is how harsh he is on them and Jerry Jones. Rightfully so imo, he sees an inferior team to what he had known so he should be harsh. I don’t care one way or the other though. I can understand why you are so sensitive about it though if you didn’t like the player in his playing days.

Actually the corner being a moron and not just running for the sideline is what saved the game for the Steelers..if he had ran for the far sideline ben wouldnt have stood a chance in hell of catching him and he could have just fallen down on the 20 in bounds

As a Steelers fan, this was the most yelling and screaming I've ever done watching a game on TV!... good times😮

I remember a guy in Pittsburgh literally had a heart attack when Bettis fumbled that ball. I'm glad the Steelers won, it'd been bad if that blown INT call costed them the game. And this was back when beating Manning in a "big" game was considered something special instead of the norm.

The amount of talent on the 2000’s Steelers was insane.

Mike Vanderjagt went from being the NFLs most accurate kicker.....to missing this field goal and NEVER being the same ever again. He was haunted for the rest of his career.

they were chokers...even with the refs trying to hand the game to them with that despicable decision to overturn Polamalus obvious interception they stil managed to blow it...at least the Pats win when the ref make questionable calls that help them.

That crowd pop when Bettis fumbled was fantastic. And I'm a steeler fan. Never heard a crowd get that loud.

i miss these mid 2000's graphics and lack of advertisements on every square inch. Just the right amount of indicators on the field as well

It wasnt a safety tho. I watched replay multiple times. Manning made sure his knee touched the ground b4 ball broke endzone plane. Steelers fan btw. Now we also got robbed same drive with Polamalu int stripped from him. #78 left tackle shifted and no false start at 1:44 i believe

Mike Schumann I think the officiating crew was the same one who worked the Super Bowl later in the year. Ugh they were horrible. The game shouldn't have come down to a game tying field goal.

The Tuck Rule was appropriately called. The INT overturn was ridiculous as the rule book and initial call agree- it was an interception. Ref overturned it because he was on the take. Period.

Guillermo Ruelas the tuck rule had been in place since 1999, hell the Pats even got screwed by the tuck rule in 2001 against the Jets! "Never heard of the tuck rule before" lmao give me a break

The commentary, presentation of the game, the pace of the game, the rules, and so much more make for a 50x more enjoyable game than you see in 2021.

Ward was so synonymous with 3rd down clutch catches in his entire career especially in this playoffs run. What a game!

As a Colts fan, this was a tough one. Because the Colts wrapped up the playoffs seed so quickly (earlier December), they went an entire month between meaningful games and sat a lot of players. It really showed through the first 2 1/2 quarters and then finally got it going. They were lucky they even had a shot at the end. It was another missed opportunity.

You should be happy that they did not win. IF I were a Colts fan I would NOT want my team winning in that manner.....I AM talking about the Polamalu interception that was reversed ( what a steal! ). That steal in particular is the reason why so many people are turned off with football.

And the next season the Colts fired their field goal kicker, and hired Adam from the Patriots and won the Super Bowl.

Oh wow. Great nostalgia with this one. I started watching football right before the 2004 season and my dad was a huge Steelers fan so I became one too. I remember this playoff run from when I was 8 Great memories

I wasn't even 10 when this game happened. My uncle punched a hole in the wall when Bettis fumbled. One of the craziest endings ever and so much talent everywhere on the field. I used all these guys many times over in Madden on PS2. Take me back.

I will never forget this game. Was living less than an hour outside Indy at the time attending college. My sister (a big Manning fan) actually got to attend the game with friends, so I made them some Colts hats out of fleece. The week after the game I had to do a "how to" presentation for a speech class, so I planned to show the class how to make such hats. Gave the presentation showing all the steps to make a Colts hat - but at the end I took out the Steelers one I'd made for myself and put it on, simply ending my speech by commenting on how the basic hat could be designed in other ways too. The groans I got in response is a sound I will always cherish. ;) (Seriously, though, that fumble by Bettis and tackle by Ben took years off my life! LOL)

IIRC Vanderjagt got FIRED by the Colts for missing that FG. Even though he had an 87 percent success rate previous to that miss. Manning said "Kickers are not football players, they're Kickers".

One of the best/ insane games I've ever seen. As a steeler fan the end had me going nuts!

I remember watching this live with my dad when I was 7. The game was so intense near the end I swear he was going to have a heart attack. When Vanderjagt missed he went crazy (due to joy). A fond memory.

What a football team and what nostalgia. I miss me and my dad watching these games while he cooked spaghetti and meatballs and listening to him yell at the TV man what a game!!!

Kicking is basically a physiology test at the highest level. Everybody can put the ball through the uprights at 50 yards in practice 10/10 times, but when pressure builds and the game is on the line it is the hardest thing in football to stay focused.

​@@parlet It really is somehow. I still get emotional every time I see the "Immaculate Interception" and Holmes catch in XLIII too no matter how many times I see it.

At the 2005 season, the Colts started this season with a 13-0 record and seemed determined to make it to Super Bowl XL, but 2nd year quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers would shatter their hopes this day

Peyton Manning is a huge playoff choke artist and this game is the biggest example.

It would be great if you could upload the 2008 divisional round game between the Steelers and Chargers. It's the only playoff game that Big Ben started that I can't find. Great upload.

I met Kordell, Bradshaw, Franco, etc I love the Steelers, I was at the last game at 3 rivers stadium... I really can't wait for them to come back to prestige like they were. I got all their autographs and pictures with then when I was like 13.

That interception call on polamalu was such BS. It was so bad that the NFL apologized for the bad call.

ddholly04 when the Colts lost to NE the year before this 20-3 after the Colts had scored 500 points, Phil Simms said “This is not Peyton Manning’s fault” right as Peyton threw another pick to close the game

Dan Dierdorf nails it on the last Colts drive saying that Vanderjagt would want to be closer

Hampton in his prime was a beast. I remember once seeing him tackle a running back for a loss without even touching the guy - he just threw the center into him and knocked him over.

I don't know if this is the greatest game in NFL history, but I will say, this is the greatest game I've ever watched. As a Steelers fan, I have never felt the same combination of joy, depression, fear, and exhilaration in a single game before or since. I was a senior in High School during this run. I remember hearing about that guy who had the heart attack while watching the game and I remember thinking I understood. What an experience this was.

My thought always was...how the hell do you shank the ball INDOORS that bad? Smelled like $$$ to me. 😆

One of my favorite Steeler games ever. No one gave us a chance, Ben showed he wasn't just a product of good D and a run game, and the pass rush killed Manning who rarely got hit.

And yeh we got glimpses of Ben being cut loose by Cowher after being managed his entire rookie camapign. But it was because of the threat of the run game that Big Ben was successful in play action and then that D wasnt playin wit dat Colts' oline or Oeyton's @$$
