Just imagine you come across these "robots" while you're walking down the street and they're all shutdown and lifeless but you see a jukebox or something beside them. You put money in, select a song, then they come alive and play the song before shutting down again until the next person comes by and turns it on again. Would take a lot of hard work to stay in one pose for indefinite periods of time though and they would need a "caretaker" to make sure people didn't mess with the robots while they were inactive.

Its because the original members were all trained in classical mime in college and even newer members and past members who weren't were trained by the Bennet twins... Or so they say to hide that theyre real robots

I really love the culture around this band, it's amazing how people respect Rabbit's gender even when talking about her art from b4 she was out and how much she's changed and grown. I don't see that very often and its so heart warming and wonderful to see!♡

best lines in this hands down goes to 'what is this leaking affecting my eye? does the oil thats dripping mean this is a cry? will I ever be something with feeling to hide? or am i just a boiler thats empty inside?'. its that fundamental story of a robot given emotion, but tied to the unique human experience and how we deal with emotion day to day. then it goes right back. love this song and may steal that line for a dnd npc at some point

I've heard it that way at times myself. Sometimes I've also heard it as "A very big Steam Powered Giraffe who smokes". I've also noticed sometimes they don't enunciate and I have to look up the lyrics at times. I'm not complaining though, it makes it more fun to listen to if anything he he he.

For performers who are phenomenal at looking emotionless, and a song so dedicated to not being to feel and understand your own emotions, there is SO much emotion conveyed in this song, I love it so much.

When I was young my father used to love this band. He still does but he's found others. This is one of the only songs I remember, and I remember asking him to play this song all the time, I loved it so much. It's been a couple of years since I discovered SPG, but the trio blending break still blows my mind. It's so good. Their voices complement each other and the chemistry between them is just amazing. I'm a metalhead (no pun intended) but I know good music when I hear it no matter the genre, and this is great. This and Honeybee are my favorites.

At some point in the past, humanity made a choice between this and Panic at the Disco. We live in the broken world that came after that choice.

I'd like to add that the one available on itunes was after jon left the band so it has different vocals from hatchworth (the dude you see drumming in background) and that also the band is just getting kind of old X3 no offense guys just joking.

The Spines vocal range while playing guitar in this video is absolutely amazing

They definitely need an animated film or series. They would make perfect characters with amazing songs!

Think of your soul as a fleshy sack of viscous yellow fluid. When you barter a part of your soul to an ideal master, it leaves the sack open to infection, the fluid leaks and oozes out and that tends to end with a nasty mess. I do not mean a mess that can be remedied with a mop, I am talking about a mess that is very difficult to clean.

・Deyra・ I went a couple years ago when rabbit first started to transition. It was great. they interacted with the crowd. Bunny and the spin both got off stage, and they did little skits inbetween songs. it was worth every penny!

I am just in awe. Level of these musicians fidelity to mechatron movements is through the roof. Overall performance is stunning and I enjoyed every second of it!

It's so strange how they're able to be so expressive, and still have the same movements as an actual automaton. I think it's impressive!

The first time I watched this, I actually was seated comfortably, with a sandwich, in my underwear.

Something about this song tickles my brain,and I like it.

I love Rabbits laugh at the end

Literally watched this for the first time not knowing anything about the song let alone very little about the band besides one song. In the beginning the video he says "even if you're in your underwear" and I was in fact in my bed at 5am in my underwear, high af though. Tripped me out. Thought I'd share. Cheers.

I love rabbits vocal range so much she is really inspiring, especially as you can see the changes through her physical transition :D

every time i listen to this song i start SCHMOOVING

This is my granddaughter's favorite song -- she's loved this song ever since she was months old. She's now two and we dance to this song every Sunday morning when she comes over for breakfast. She runs in to me and tells me, "Raff?" And we play Steam Powered Giraffe all morning long. You guys are great.

Seeing just Bunny and David by themselves/just with each other makes it easy to forget how freakin' tall they are. They make Jon look like a child.

Am I the only one who thinks this kind of funniness and sense of humor is exactly what the world needs nowadays

Rabbit has the best smile.

It's amazing to see how much Isabella's voice has changed since this, in a good way.

Mary that is incorrect. the one with the guitar is The John who left the band. Isabella is Rabbit with the megaphone. Once she transitioned she also transitioned her robot. You can see her current robot in Malfunction. =) Cheers!

Mary Smith well. Your research was wrong, I'm sorry. The band even commented below on another comment asking who the lead singer was, and stated it was the male rabbit who sang the most but none of the band members are technically the lead. =)

Old Rabbit had a very raw and rusty look to him. New Rabbit has a more clean and sophisticated look to her.

as many times as I've listened to this song over the years, somehow only just now did I realize The Spine was singin the lyric "brass goggles" repeatedly in the background at the end. I feel completely unobservant, but also love that even all these years later, I get to find some new bits to an old favorite to enjoy

To think I was jamming to SPG back in freshman year of high school and *to this day* i havent come across anyone quite like them. They are just so unique, in every way, and i still love it.

"Turn your ears, to the grinding gears." Love that part.

Spine is all over the extremes of his range with this one, and he does so perfectly and with ease. Great performance. One of my favorite SPG songs. I frequently get the DA DA DA DA DA earbug in my head, and it's quite delightful.

The perfected animatronic movements combined with the lighting makes em look like uncanny Valley video game renders Magnificent

Fun fact this was the first video i watched on youtube

I kinda miss this version of Rabbit bc like the way Rabbit did the motions and flowed with the song really clicked and fit the theme of the band. The newer Rabbit is p awesome don't get me wrong but like her movements and flow are more organic over the linear and robotic Rabbit from before

zeebo30 Still in 'Steampunk' is a Science Fiction based on Steam powered machines in the Victorian Era and they really never got that advanced and made those types of movement. However, I don't mind the current dancing and movements but I prefer the older movements......more robotic looking the better in my opinion.

I think she needs to re-learn all of her movements since now she has a female figure. You'd think it's not that much of a difference, but you'd be surprised.

Ben Ackerman Yeah I would think that she would need to learn moving again because she has a different body shape (Slight but would still affect her) plus I wouldn't think a dress would help the matter
