This toilet is garbage. Our apartments just replaced them and everyone is complaining. They don't freaking flush anything completely, and it just bounces back into the bowl. Flush again. Nope. Flush again.. maybe. Give me back my "water hogging " toilet back.

I work maintenance at an apartment complex that switched to these toilets also and ever since then we have more calls than ever on plumbing issues. Stopped up toilets and house floods. They just don't produce enough water for 40 year old cast iron pipes.. the easiest thing we found to do is buy a Milwaukee Air Snake. It works about 90% of the time and you don't have to pull the toilet and snake it. Saves you a lot of time and hassle.

They installed these toilets in all our apartments 2 years ago, only difference being they installed the one with the flush lever outside instead of the one with the button in the middle. However, now nearly after 2 years, our toilet suddenly started flushing very slowly. I thought it was a little clogged but no clog, I always had to hold the lever down for a few seconds to get a complete flush. It was very annoying. All the water holes inside the toilet bowl were still very clean and the water was still flowing into the bowl smoothly but was getting no smooth/fast flush as the day it was installed. I even tried cleaning the small syphon hole inside the bowl but it seemed so clean. I took the toilet tank apart (took off the center stopper and the lever that is connected to it, then I unclipped the plastic housing and took out both those pieces. Then I see the air vent they mention in this video but don't show us. The air vent is covered with a green plastic piece with a hole in the middle and has a small ball of foam inside the tube. With a flat head you can remove the green plastic piece by prying it out. Try to remove the ball of foam in the tube as well. When I flushed the toilet without the green piece the ball of foam shot out of the tube so it was easy and I didn't have to actually unplug my water toilet water hose and the screws to remove the tanker to get in there and clean the vent, although it would probably be easier to clean your air vent by completely removing the tanker from the toilet. Then I used a manual pump I have with two hoses/tubes and inserted one hose/tube in and the other I put in the tank with water. I started pumping water down the air vent to really get a good clean. Then I reversed the tubes/hoses and was doing an air suction to make sure the air vent was clean, and I was hearing the toilet react with a flushing sound each time I did a suction with my pump. Lastly, I just put the foam ball into the green piece and inserted the green piece with the foam ball back into tube and clipped back the black plastic housing. After putting everything back together in the tanker, it flushed super fast like it did day 1!

Thanks for the instructions! In case it helps anyone else... After 8 years of daily use by my family of four, my Niagra Stealth (model #N7714) suddenly started flushing very weakly. Thanks to your instructions, I (1) turned off the water to the toilet, (2) removed the push-button lid, (3) flushed the toilet almost dry, (4) disconnected the water supply, (5) removed the two wing-nuts holding the tank to the bowl, (6) removed the tank and set it upside down in my shower to dump out the remaining water, (7) removed and cleaned the rubber gasket, (8) for the TANK I used a flat-head screw-driver to scrape the crap out the (smaller stubbed-hole) air vent, and then flushed it with water from both the vent-hole and the tank's top-side, (9) for the BOWL, I used a flat-head screwdriver, bottle-brushes, and thick wire to clean the crap out of the (smaller-hole) air-vent on the bowl, and then flushed it with a few quarts of water (10) reassembled and tested it. Success! Unlike your instructions, there was no foam ball or hose to clean. The bowl's vent-hole is just a hole in the porcelain bowl. The tank's vent-hole is just a plastic stub. When I flushed the BOWL's vent hole by pouring a few quarts of water into it, I could see the crap going down into the water in the bowl (apparently through a vent hole above the P-trap which can't be seen). The water flowed freely from the bowl's vent-hole into the bowl, so I felt confident that the bowl's vent-hole was clear. Similarly, when I poured water into the TANK's plastic-stub vent-hole, crap-particles came out of the tank and into the shower. Yuck. I flushed the tank's vent-hole and rinsed the tank until it was clear. The job was much easier than I expected. FYI: We got two 0.8 gpf Niagra toilets for free from my water company (here in Silicon Valley where water conservation is critical). I previously had top-rated 1.6 gpf Toto toilets. I was skeptical about the Niagra toilets, so I stored the Toto's on the side of my house for about 4 months, just in case the Niagras didn't get the job done, but they did get the job done, so I gave the Toto's to a friend. We have had far, far fewer clogs with these Niagra toilets than with any toilet I've ever owned-- even our old 2.5 gpf toilets that the Toto's replaced. My other Niagra toilet is in the master bathroom so it gets less use and hasn't had a problem yet. But if I just have to clean the vent-holes once every 8 years, I'm OK with that.

toilet works great and I recommend it. I have two and will replace all with it. But after two years I had, rather suddenly, slow flushing. after watching this presentation and others, it seemed to me that the air vent was clogged. I removed the water closet from the base and, sure enough, the vent hole and some of the air tank in the water closet was filled with black, odorless crud. Probably the result of our non chlorinated well water. It shows up in other water appliances too but seems to be non toxic. In any case, cleaning the vent and the air reservoir solved the problem. I used a wet/dry shop vac and then flushed top and bottom with water.

Yup, mine did the same thing after 2 years. Suddenly, getting a very slow flush and I had to hold down the lever to get a complete flush (mine doesn't have the button in the middle but still same stuff inside the tanker). And it was not clogged. It turns out, as you stated, the toilet's air vent. After taking apart my toilet and cleaning my air vent it flushes fast again like it did day one. I pryed out the plastic piece at the top of the air vent, removed my foam ball and did a deep cleaning inside the tube by using my manual pump with pressured water down the vent and then doing suction to make sure it was good. Put everything back together and it flushes fast again. Thanks for mentioning that it was the air tube because in my case it was... and it wasn't a partial clog as I initially thought it might have been.

@@jeffreyspoelstra2427 you have to remove the water closet...the part that holds the water and flush apparatus. (turn off your water!) in the lower section (the part with the bowl), you will see a hole about 1" in diameter that goes down into the bowl and has a mate on the upper section (water closet). I think it's towards the right side as you stand in front of the toilet, and at the back. This passage allows for the quick movement of air that is necessary for the quick flush action. This hole is not visible from anywhere else. let me know if it works for you.

And if you're still getting a weak flush after trying all of these, take the lid off the tank and unclip the latch on the left side of the black plastic piece that surrounds the flush valve, exposing the top of the air transfer tube (directly behind the flush valve). Inside the top of the tube is a red plastic insert with a small hole in the center. Slide a wire into the hole as far as it will go. Then slowly pull out the wire, wiping fecal matter off the side with a large wad of toilet paper. (Like checking the oil on your car only more disgusting.) Next, slowly pour 2 cups of boiling water into the hole. If it doesn't go down quickly, you may have to "snake" the tube again and repeat. Replace the black plastic surround and secure it with the clip. Now flush the toilet a couple of times. With luck, it will have a much more forceful flush. So what happened? If you try to remove a clog in one of these toilets by plunging it, some of the matter can get forced up into the air transfer tube. If the air transfer tube is blocked, the toilet cannot use air pressure to assist in powering the flush, as it was designed to do. On the other hand, because of the twists in the discharge path between the toilet bowl and the hole in the floor, these aren't the easiest toilets to snake.

If you're here because you need to adjust / fix your toilet be mindful that similar models come apart differently. I have a single flush stealth and to access the fill valve its released turning counter clockwise and per the instructions not to remove the pin holding the float valve. Your water level indicator is not always on the black plastic part as well. Like anything else that is new its not designed to last, have replacement parts readily available buy them before you need them. Keep your instruction manual you'll need it.

I lifted it up again and see if the water in the toilet stopped running as well and it did, and I don’t think the water in the toilet was draining either, so I don’t think it’s the seal on the flush valve either:/ it won’t stop running. P.s. the fill valve where the rubber disk is, is leaking a little with the cap on. I little droplets on water flowing down to the float cup. It still have a low water level.

If water comes back up , there’s a clogg , the small hole is part of the flush mechanism .. I pour hot water and or use a high pressure water hose , there will be a piece of clogged debris , that will be in tank bowl , that’s how I knew this was the problem. Not sure why niagra would design , the toilet this way , it’s basically disaster eating to happen .. I guess I’ll have to unclog this hole every couple of yrs .. cuz , toilet worked fine for 4yrs and then , after process of elimination.. I discovered this clog .. hope niagra will, design future toilets better

I installed it last night and the flush was ridiculously weak compared to my other one, so I searched and found this video. Never in a million years would I have guessed that the problem was that the toilet tank was leaning against the wall so that the air tube wasn't working properly, like the video mentions at 2:50. I guess I can just guess if the water should be at the top or bottom of those letters, and also what is the tolerance above or below. as with most produc designers, it seems their motto is : better to let millions of people wonder than to easily make such info clear. A protruding line would be so helpful, and colored white even better.

My Stealth is a Glacier Bay Power Flush from Home Depot. It's not a top flush like this model. It still flushes very strongly, but the level of water in the bowl doesn't refill to sufficient levels. I've got plenty of water in the tank for each new flush, and I can make the bowl refill higher if I hold down the flush handle, but I don't want nor should have to have to do that. I've been in contact with support online and over the phone, and all I got today in the mail was what appears to be a silicone seal for the bottom of a flush mechanism that may or may not resemble mine. Has anyone with the Glacier Bay from at least two years ago with the flush handle on the outside experienced this problem with low levels in the toilet bowl after flushing?

My toilet (N7714 Stealth) began a very slow leak around the fill valve. I tried using a replacement washer which did not stop the leak. I looked inside of the tank top it says use a "Fluidmaster 400A" as a replacement. I bought a 400A at the local hardware store and installed it. That was when I discovered it was not exactly like the one I took off. The original has no fill tube and the new one did. I attached the rubber tube and stuffed it inside - seems to work. However when I called the Niagra help line to verify work, I was told that I had to buy replacement parts from only 2 places - by mail order. Never read that anywhere in these help videos. Anyway, a very unsatisfactory call and a really crappy response from Niagara. I really like the toilet, but having to buy parts mail order is really bad - no weekend fixes here for sure. I still have no idea if my repair is good or not.

Yeah, that isn't a good thing if it is indeed coming from the floor area vs just seeming too. It might indicate that you don't have seal with the drain and you are hearing noises from the sewer line. If only used the one wax ring it came with it could be that it wasn't enough, as is often the case with thicker tile floors. If it doesn't have a tight seal you could have water leaking from the flush and sewer gas/stench leaking out. You'd want to pull it up and check and possible redo it. Personally I don't recommend anyone use wax as I found the Fernco waxless seal to be a much better solution as I don't have to worry whether I used too little, or if the wax made a full seal or when I might need to replace it.

Cause of problem: Plastic nut that holds flush button onto toilet lid came off and held flush valve open causing the tank to never fill. Solution: Unscrew flush valve to remove flush button nut obstruction. Video at ~2:10 explains how to remove flush valve. Place flush valve back on, tighten nut to flush button back on lid firmly. I hope this helps anyone else!

DONT BUY THESE TOILETS I work maintenance at an apartment complex that switched to these toilets also and ever since then we have more calls than ever on plumbing issues.

This video was very helpful. My toilet has been here about 7 years and has begun making a "vacuum" sound as it flushes. I think it's flushing just as rapidly as it did before. I'm not seeing a sound like that being typical. I'll be climbing up on the roof tomorrow to see if there's anything blocking the vent but it's raining today. Anyone else had that sort of sucking/vacuum sound as it flushes? Thank you.

How do I increase water in bowl? I have to plunge for every wad of toilet paper. That’s means 3 plunges per visit. Nothing will flush without plunging. How do I get a more powerful flush. I moved from a 1920s building with powerful flushing to a 2005 building with these Niagara Stealth single flush toilets that are my daily nightmare. I plunge and plunge and plunge. I need more water. There is only 2 cups of water in bowl every time I visit and open lid!

While not as shockingly wrong as the instructions that the HD model comes with, this is incomplete and out of date. Trying to determine where the water line should be from the instructions makes you think someone wrote it who has never seen the toilet, has never written or read instructions in their life, and didn't allow anyone to proof read it. Not only do the instructions claim notably incorrect things like that that the gasket between the tank and bowl and the flush button is already installed in place from the factory, it has tells you to look at instructions that aren't even there. For the water level, it has a section under Troubleshooting 'poor or sluggish flush' that the WL might be to low and you should adjust it to the Water Level Mark which it doesn't say where that is and refers you to "Step 9". The instructions stop at Step 8... Here the instructions for WL show a mark inside the center tube which is not where (I think) it is now which is on a step on back left of the center chamber outer ring. Would have been a lot easier to simply state something like "The water level should reach to just below the top of the center chamber's outer ring. If it goes over the top of the ring adjust the Fluidmaster valve screw lower.". The instructions in this video are problematic as it seems to be randomly addressing things so you don't know what is in the video and then it talks about things without showing them. From "lengthening the snake" to addressing blocked vent pipes. The vent pipes are likely to be even more confusing for people because this video keeps showing images of the toilet, possible making folks who aren't knowledgeable about their plumbing thing this toilet has some sort of vent that needs to be cleaned. Regarding the vent pipes, it is absurd to talk about troubleshooting and resolving significant issues with your plumbing like that here. Simply mentioning some possible larger issues, how to tell if it might be them (like your sink draining slowly or gurgling), and recommending getting plumber to check it is what you should be doing. Seriously, telling general consumers to go on their roof and run hose down the air vents when talking about troubleshooting their toilet??

My N7714 does not have enough water pressure to flush properly anymore. I did every "test" in this video and nothing helped. I hired someone to look at my vents on top of the roof and they are clear. I had TWO different plumbers look at my toilet and they both said REPLACE IT with an old-fashioned toilet. They said many cities sewer systems are not compatible with these low-water flush systems. Please post ANOTHER VIDEO that shows me how to fix the low water pressure problem with my toilet.

If you mean that you were getting a slow flush then the way I fixed mine was by taking the tanker apart and cleaning the air vent inside the tanker/toilet. Unfortunately with this modern design, the air vents that supply the high/fast flush pressure can get a little clogged resulting in a very slow/low pressurized flush. This happened to me after around 2 years of having this toilet. I cleaned my toilet's air vents and it flushes fast again. Once you unlatch the black plastic housing inside your tanker, you'll see a tube with a green plastic piece and a hole in the middle and there should be a foam ball in there (at least there was one inside of mine). I pryed my green plastic piece out with a flat head and removed the ball and proceeded to cleaning the air tube as best as possible. Then I put everything back together and my toilet flushes very fast again.
