How to Fix Niagara Stealth Toilet for under $2.00 - Hissing Noise & slow water fill with weak flush

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

My Niagara Stealth toilet (model N7714) had a hissing noise, and I discovered it was due to the fill valve filling the tank with water very slowly. This also produced a weak flush when the water had not yet completely filled. I searched online for answers, but the company has only one troubleshooting video that did not help. I then called the Niagara customer support line, only to be left on hold for over 90 minutes and never get through to a representative.
Since I have 2 of these toilets in my house, by trial and error I found the culprit was a Fill Valve Seal. I bought this item on Amazon at the following link for $1.68 - www.amazon.com/Fluidmaster-242-Toilet-Valve-Replacement/dp/B00002N6MK. I will not make any money if you click the link, it is just there for your reference.
In this video, I show the original problem, how I replaced the valve seal, and how the toilet was fixed after a quick 5 minute repair. I bet a lot of folks change out the whole entire fill valve assembly, which costs more money, takes longer, is messier, and adds unnecessary plastic waste to our landfills.
I hope this video will help a lot of folks avoid the hours spent on troubleshooting that I did, and fix your toilets quickly and easily. I cannot guarantee that this valve will fix whatever problem you are having, but if you hear the same hissing as in this video, and if it takes a long time for your tank to fill like mine did, then this should do the trick.
If you have a Niagara toilet, you can find your model number by lifting off the tank cover, and looking at the back wall inside the tank where the model number should be printed. My research showed that this Fluidmaster Fill Valve Seal will fit the following Niagara toilet models:
NANO Dual Flush Compact Elongated 12” model # N7747T-DF
PHANTOM Single Flush Elongated 12” model # N7747T
ONE PIECE Single Flush Elongated 12” model # N7711
THE ORIGINAL Single Flush Elongated 12” model # N7714
THE ORIGINAL Single Flush Round 12” model # N7714
THE ORIGINAL Single Flush Round 10” model # N7714
THE ORIGINAL Single Flush Elongated 12” model # 77000WHAI1
THE ORIGINAL Single Flush Round 12” model # 77001RWHAI1
THE ORIGINAL Side Handle Single Flush Elongated 12” model # N7714TFH
THE ORIGINAL Side Handle Single Flush Round 12” model # N7714TFH
THE ORIGINAL Side Handle Single Flush Round 10” model # N7714TFH
THE ORIGINAL Dual Flush Elongated 12” model # N7714T-DF
THE ORIGINAL Rear Outlet Single Flush Elongated 4” model # N7799T
However, it will NOT work in the Niagara SENTINEL model # N2235T.
Please keep in mind that the particular Fill Valve Seal used in this video works in any toilet using the FluidMaster 200, 400 and 747 models - not just Niagara toilets.

You saved me so much time and energy in diagnosing the problem, I was about to replace the toilet bowl. Every time I flushed the toilet, I would be so upset, watching the water running for several minutes. What an unnecessary waste of water. I tried several times to diagnose the problem but wasn't able to. I can't thank you enough!

This man is a legend. My toilet would flush once, then not fill back up, then the next flush was weak. This fixed it. Now it flushes and fills back up...like a toilet should!

Dude! You have no idea! Literally the only person on KZread that’s suggesting this idea! My toilet wouldn’t stop filling and that rubber fill valve seal replacement fixed the issue! (PS Niagara website has replacement parts form for free incase y’all need other replacement parts ) ‼️I think you need to repost this video again , with a more general title “leaking toilet fill valve” so more people can find YOU!!!! I only found you because I was googling for “Niagara toilets” in specific, I wouldn’t have found you otherwise! (The first time I had this issue I ended up replacing the whole fill valve because what’s what all the videos were doing NO ONE mentioned that rubber seal) Thank you a million! Learnt a lot today!

This works for the N2450T as well! Tiny grains of sand were below the seal. After cleaning the toilet worked perfectly, good flush and quiet refill. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

I installed three of these systems on the same day at my house. They all began to fail around the same time, and my inner conspiracy theorist swore that I was a victim of planned obsolescence. Maybe I am, but this TOTALLY helped all three toilets! Thanks a million!

I have 2 that are about 3 years old and both started this on the same day. I found little pieces of sand in both that were causing the problem. Think something just gets in the lines and goes to all the toilets. Happened a again few months later. Found another small grain of sand. Was the issue for me.

You're the Mannnnn!!! I'm a 66 year old Female I fixed the toilet hissing by myself, with your video. I couldn't remove the screw adjuster thing once I dislodged the part under the cap. Too scared I was going to break it. So once I dislodged the piece counter-clockwise, I turned the part so that I could remove the seal. And then popped in the new seal and put the part back on turning clockwise to set it, I put the cap back on. Turn the water on. I flushed twice, and waited. Then my husband peeps his head in the door and says, how you comin' Baby. I said I think I fixed it. I don't hear no noise 😡 I guess I have to call and cancel the plummer.

I am not as handy as some but after watching this video a few times I felt confident. I quick trip to Home Depot, they had the new Fill Valve Seal and the problem was solved within a few minutes after getting home. Really, this should be the template for “How-To or DIY” video on KZread. Simple and to the point. Thank again, best wishes and positive vibes sent your way.

I am going through some trial and error and I have a glacier bay model that has the niagra stealth setup that advertises it is capable of flushing 12 billiard balls and believe me it will, but yesterday it suddenly lost flushing power completely and I know that it isn’t clogged at all because I have dumped a 5 gallon bucket of water in the bowl and it drained immediately and when it happened I instantly noticed that the jet power that is usually present when flushed wasn’t there at all and water was slowly draining out but no typical flushing spiral 🌀 like you would normally get. So I’m just wondering what is causing this to happen

Sounds like the adjustment screw for the valve water level in the bowl could be the problem. Or maybe there is a leak on the seal on the bottom of the tank. Sorry for the late reply, I don't come on here a lot.

No, you probably need a new seal on the flush valve (not the fill valve), or you might have a slow leak. It's a very common problem on the Stealth toilets. Watch the KZread Stealth video called "Stealth Toilet - Troubleshooting" and watch the part about checking the flush valve, then check the white seal on the bottom of it, try hand cleaning it, and/or replace if necessary. Good luck.
