Statues - Who Cares? A short investigation.
Музыка
Amelia, the very serious journalist strikes again!
A year ago in Bristol the statue of Slave Trader Edward Colston was removed by protestors, an act that has come to be one of the most defining images of Britain’s Black Lives Matter movement.
Last June, as everyone started talking more and more about Statues, I took to the streets, 2-metre-mic in hand, to find out if people actually knew anything about the statues that are dispersed around our cities.
Speaking to the public about our past brought up such a variety of issues that impact our society - so off the back of this episode I pitched the idea of making more, on a range of different subjects, to @DaveTVChannel TV.
One year later, I am thrilled to announce that a new 6-part series will be airing on @DaveTVChannel KZread channel on Friday 18th June. Each episode of will see me pose the UK public a selection of questions on subjects from Billionaires to Fast-Fashion, providing an alternative view on the political atmosphere through me awkwardly holding a giant microphone.
The opposite of click-bait and sensationalism, I am so excited to share with you a new set of educational and surprisingly entertaining videos.

Big agree. It bugs me so much when someone says tearing down statues is 'erasing history' when thats literally the point of having statues in the first place, to erase the community and the people and glorify an individual

Honestly I find it crushing that many of you feel this way about individual figures. How is any of what you percieve about the nations statues unhealthy obsession. I'm finding it really difficult to reconsile all these comments. Just feels like in the decades to come, the statues will go, and it won't be enough and that symbols of stablity and home will be taken or changed and I'll be lost, without history or identity, and still I feel I'm unable to express how I feel.

Because they are a product of thier time, they didn't understand the concept of equality or humanity. But you have to recognize they advanced our society tremendously. And ofc you should idiolise people as you can learn from them and sculpt your personality of them.

@@tobyarnold4349 Pretty much every advancement comes at the expense of another, we don't use nuclear bombs because of what happened in japan, World war 2 literally drove so much technological advancement as you can see by how quickly everything changed between the 50's and 90's. It's just a sad reality that bad things usually lead to advancement and change. if those bad things never happened then we wouldn't know they're wrong

Underrated series!
everyone really spoke well and its so interesting to take in different perspectives. but the man at the end really tugged on my heart strings! we can dwell on the past to an extent but like he said, the statues are symbolic and perhaps aren't always there to glorify. though, I think so many more beautiful murals and art should be displayed around areas of importance. so much to debate. and how great I'd love to know what people think of my city having a life-size bronze pig statue in its centre, to celebrate having markets for hundreds of years ahaha ☺🙏
love the video, you should do more like these

Some statements where pretty cringey. However i found the one about have memorials portray an event and representing it instead of one person to be a pretty good proposal. Great man theory is a mostly bad way to view history. The americans did say some cringe shit tho. Monuments are the best way to represent history. Sculptures should be viewed more as art, sculptures itself are not bad. Maybe we could go more of a classic route and sculpture statues like the david.
